1530 Welcome Reception<br />
You will arrive at the Munich International Airport <strong>and</strong> be<br />
greeted by an <strong>Edelweiss</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Resort</strong> representative. Enjoy<br />
some time to mingle with your fellow retirees <strong>and</strong> stretch your<br />
legs after the long flight before boarding a private coach bus en<br />
route to Garmisch.<br />
During the drive, watch as the majestic mountains begin to form<br />
around you before arriving in the stunning Werdenfelser valley<br />
with the highest mountain in all of Germany right at your feet:<br />
the Zugspitze. The rest of the afternoon is yours to get checkedin,<br />
unpack <strong>and</strong> relax before attending the Welcome Reception<br />
Dinner at the <strong>Edelweiss</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Resort</strong>. Then enjoy a<br />
comfortable night’s sleep as you prepare to experience the<br />
vacation of a lifetime!<br />

The smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II lies near<br />
the fairytale village of Oberammergau <strong>and</strong> is the only palace<br />
which he lived to see completed. Your tour will take you through<br />
this lavish palace to see the bedchamber, dining room, throne<br />
room, audience chamber, eastern <strong>and</strong> western tapestry chambers<br />
<strong>and</strong> the gr<strong>and</strong> hall of mirrors.<br />
After the tour you will head to the fairytale village of Oberammergau<br />
for lunch <strong>and</strong> some shopping. Then, continue on to<br />
Ettal <strong>and</strong> visit the exquisite monastery that towers over the small<br />
town. Beautiful paintings <strong>and</strong> sculptures adorn this historic site.<br />
You will also have an opportunity to taste the monks homemade<br />
beers <strong>and</strong> liqueurs. Enjoy the beautiful <strong>and</strong> colorful Christmas<br />
Markets at these locations as well.<br />

MUNICH, GERMANY<br />

Bavaria’s heart <strong>and</strong> soul is arguably its capital city: Munich. Your<br />
tour will begin by driving by the grounds of the world-famous<br />
Oktoberfest held every year in the “Beer Capital of the World.”<br />
You’ll then visit the Marienplatz, site of the Rathaus town hall<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Glockenspiel play clock with dancers, jousters <strong>and</strong><br />
knights. This is where you will find the gr<strong>and</strong> Christkindlmarkt<br />
with rows <strong>and</strong> rows of shops, baked goods <strong>and</strong> holiday decor.<br />
Afterward, continue on to visit the world- famous Hofbräuhaus<br />
beer hall as you learn the history of Munich’s past.<br />

In the foothills of the Italian Telegraph mountains lies the town<br />
of Brixen. Settled in 901 AD, this city is the third largest in the<br />
region <strong>and</strong> sits just south of the Austrian / Italian border.<br />
Your tour will begin with a drive past Innsbruck <strong>and</strong> over the<br />
Europabrucke through the stunning Brenner Pass to Caldaro im<br />
German Kalterer. Here you can visit a wine cellar <strong>and</strong> learn about<br />
the grapes <strong>and</strong> wine produced in this region. You will then come<br />
to Brixen, famous for its unparalleled blend of Mediterranean<br />
<strong>and</strong> Alpine culture. Brixen is a quaint holiday town filled with<br />
history in its facades, art <strong>and</strong> winding archways throughout the<br />
streets. Take some time to stroll through the many shops <strong>and</strong><br />
boutiques before making a gr<strong>and</strong> stop at an Italian Christmas<br />
Market. You will be pleasantly surprised to see such a unique<br />
blend of Italian <strong>and</strong> Austrian goods offered in the same market.<br />

Travel to the city of Wattens, Austria to experience a unique<br />
<strong>and</strong> eclectic multimedia art gallery at Swarovski Crystal World.<br />
Browse stunning works of art made from crystals <strong>and</strong> enjoy<br />
shopping in the largest Swarovski outlet at the end of the gallery<br />
tour.<br />
Afterward, you will head to downtown Innsbruck to enjoy the<br />
Tirolian Christmas Market in the heart of the city. The stunning<br />
Gold Roof is the centerpiece of this market filled with food, ornaments,<br />
decor <strong>and</strong> more.<br />

Travel to the third largest <strong>and</strong> third oldest city in Bavaria:<br />
Augsburg. Founded in 15 BC by Drusus <strong>and</strong> Tiberius, this original<br />
Roman province experienced early development with a 400-year<br />
affiliation with the Roman Empire. In 1276 Augsburg was decreed<br />
an Imperial Free City <strong>and</strong> became a major trading centre<br />
in Europe.<br />
You will spend the day visiting famous sites of this historic city<br />
including the Augsburg Town Hall <strong>and</strong> the Perlachturm watchtower.<br />
You will also have time to enjoy their Christmas market<br />
right next to the old Town Hall.<br />

The quaint town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen quietly rests in the<br />
Werdenfelser Valley at the foot of the majestic Bavarian Alps.<br />
You will start with a short bus excursion around the outskirts of<br />
Garmisch, Grainau <strong>and</strong> Lake Eibsee. Then head to the Olympic<br />
ski jump stadium for a photo opportunity. Then enjoy a ride<br />
through the historic Ludwigstrasse in Partenkirchen - a part of<br />
what was once the Roman Road from Venice to Augsburg. Enjoy<br />
the fascinating murals & art of this cobblestone street before<br />
heading west toward Garmisch. You will learn the history of Garmisch,<br />
peruse the Marienplatz pedestrian zone <strong>and</strong> enjoy free<br />
time to explore the colorful Christmas market in the heart of the<br />
city. Gluhwein, hot wurst <strong>and</strong> beautiful Christmas decor await!<br />

Getting Around During Your Visit:<br />
Transportation via private coach from Munich International Airport to Garmisch on 15 December <strong>and</strong> from<br />
Garmisch to Munich International Airport on 22 December is included within the package. The bus option is<br />
available on 15 December if you arrive by 1130 hours - the bus leaves promptly at noon. Only available for<br />
arrivals <strong>and</strong> departures out of Munich International Airport.<br />
If you arrive before 15 December or depart after 22 December you will be responsible for transportation<br />
arrangements <strong>and</strong> cost to or from <strong>Edelweiss</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Resort</strong>.<br />
During your stay, all transportation to <strong>and</strong> from tours is provided via private coach.<br />

• The itinerary is subject to change. A finalized schedule will be provided to you upon arrival.<br />
• All retirees <strong>and</strong> their guests are eligible to participate in the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Escapes</strong> packages.<br />
• Package prices are based upon two adults in a st<strong>and</strong>ard room. Retiree ID Card holders may sponsor a maximum<br />
of three rooms.<br />
• You will receive an e-mail confirmation from our Vacation Planning Center once you make your reservation. Once<br />
we sell 15 packages you will be charged a $500 non-refundable deposit <strong>and</strong> you will receive a confirmation letter<br />
for the package tour. At that time we suggest purchasing your plane tickets. If we do not sell the 15 packages you<br />
will receive a notification 60 days out that the tour package has been cancelled.<br />
