Rosh HaShana is the first and most important Rosh Chodesh of the year. RoshHaShana means “Head of the Year”, the first day of the new year. Rosh Chodeshmeans “Head of the Month”, the first day of each new month. There aretwelve months in the Jewish year, though in leap years there are thirteenmonths (Adar and Adar 2). The months are determined according to the moon.The lunar year is 354 days. The years are counted by the sun, so the solar yearhas 365 days.
