Violations of the user agreement may result in withdrawal ofprivileges and/or other disciplinary action.Acceptable Use of <strong>District</strong> Technology ResourcesTo prepare students for an increasingly technological society, the district has made an investmentin the use of district-owned technology resources for instructional purposes; specific resourcesmay be issued individually to students. Use of these technological resources, which include thedistrict’s network systems and use of district equipment, is restricted to approved purposes only.<strong>Student</strong>s and parents will be asked to sign a user agreement (separate from this handbook)regarding use of the district resources. Violations of the user agreement may result in withdrawalof privileges and/or other disciplinary action.Unacceptable and Inappropriate Use of Technology Resources<strong>Student</strong>s are prohibited from possessing, sending, forwarding, or posting, accessing, or displayingelectronic messages that are abusive, obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, harassing,damaging to another’s reputation, or illegal. This prohibition also applies to conduct off schoolproperty; whether the equipment used to send such messages is district-owned or personallyowned, if it results in a substantial disruption to the educational environment.Any person taking, disseminating, transferring, possessing or sharing obscene, sexually oriented,lewd, or otherwise illegal images or other content, commonly referred to as “sexting,” will bedisciplined according to the <strong>Student</strong> Code of Conduct, may be required to complete aneducational program related to the dangers of this type of behavior, and, in certain circumstances,may be reported to law enforcement. Because engaging in this type of behavior can lead tobullying or harassment, as well as possibly impede future endeavors of a student, we encourageyou to review with your child http://beforeyoutext.com, a state-developed program that addressesthe consequences of engaging in inappropriate behavior using technology.In addition, any student who engages in conduct that results in a breach of the district’scomputer security will be disciplined in accordance with the <strong>Student</strong> Code of Conduct,and, in some cases, the consequence may rise to the level of expulsion.END-OF-COURSE (EOC) ASSESSMENTSSee Course Credit, Grading Guidelines, Graduation and Standardized TestingEXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, CLUBS, AND ORGANIZATIONSParticipation in school-sponsored activities is an excellent way for a student to develop talents, receiveindividual recognition, and build strong friendships with other students; participation, however, is aprivilege, not a right.Eligibility for participation in many of these activities is governed by state law and the rules of theUniversity Interscholastic League (UIL)—a statewide association overseeing inter-district competition. Ifa student is involved in an academic, athletic, or music activity governed by UIL, the student and parentsare expected to know and follow all rules of the UIL organizations. [See http://www.uiltexas.org foradditional information.]The following requirements apply to all extracurricular activities:• A student who receives at the end of a grading period a grade below 70 in any academic class—other than an advanced placement or international baccalaureate course; or an honors or dualcredit course in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, economics, or aforeign language—may not participate in extracurricular activities for at least three school weeks.- 26 -
