Pre-primaryActivity 1<strong>Halloween</strong> <strong>is</strong> <strong>fun</strong>!You will need:● one copy of Worksheet 1 for each child● one copy of Worksheet 2 for teacher or child to take homeInstructions:1. D<strong>is</strong>tribute Worksheet 1 to your students and/or put an enlarged copy on the board forall to see.2. Name each of the <strong>Halloween</strong> characters in the song and ask the children to repeat afteryou.3. Sing the song to the children. Note that the tune <strong>is</strong> that of ‘Row, row, row your boat’(see the BBC website for an example of the tune). As you sing each line of the songpoint to the <strong>Halloween</strong> character on Worksheet 1 and mime the action of the character:a. Witch – hold an imaginary broomstick and fly it from side to side.b. Cat – ra<strong>is</strong>e your hands like claws and jump.c. Monster – pull your shoulders up, make a monster face and walk on the spot.d. Bat – hold your arms out like wings and move them to represent flying.e. Frog – hold your shoulders up and your head down and jump.f. Mummy – hold your arms out in front and walk.4. Sing the song again, encouraging the children to join in with you. The children can pointto the <strong>Halloween</strong> characters on their worksheet as you sing the song.5. If you like, you can repeat the activity by asking the children to stand in a circle wherethey can do the actions more freely whilst singing the song.www.oupe.es


Pre-primary6. Alternatively, separate the students into 6 groups sitting down; each grouprepresents one of the <strong>Halloween</strong> characters. When each group hears their characterin the song they stand up and do the action.7. If you like, give each child a copy of the song lyrics on Worksheet 2 to take homeso they can sing the song with their parents.Optional extension activityMonster FreezePlay some music, for example Saints-Saëns Dance Macabre, and ask the children todance to the music pretending they are one of the <strong>Halloween</strong> characters from theprevious activity. When you stop the music the children must freeze in the position oftheir character, choose three students who must stay in the frozen position and theother children guess what <strong>Halloween</strong> character they are.
