Xxxx xxxxxInfrared Camera Photos Attract EyesWWF Chengdu ProgrammeOffice has been supporting theestablishment and improvementof monitoring system in naturereserves in Sichuan provincessince 2005. The new monitoringtechnologies have been applied, suchas Infrared Camera. The pictures byinfrared cameras provided the datafor research and wildlife monitoring,and supported to improve theadaptation management of thenature reserves.Moreover, those precious infraredcamera photos also helped WWFfor communication and fundraisingcampaign. WWF Sweden madeseveral posts using the infraredcamera pictures on the theme "guessthe animal" on Facebook page andgot great response. The lovely fridgemagnets with infrared cameraphotos are great gifts to tell people‘What happened in the mountains’.WWF Chengdu ProgrammeOffice will continue to supportthe infrared camera projects inSichuan provinces. Meanwhile,WWF Chengdu office will try to useinfra-red camera to monitor humanimpacts in the panda habitat.The 4th national Giant Panda Survey inShaanxi ProvinceThe undergoing 4th National GiantPanda Survey has finished its firstroundfield work in the QinlingMountains. From March 2012,about 500 hundreds of staffs haveparticipated this outdoor survey,researchers and experts had traveledmore than 2,435 sample routes,covering 20 nature reserves andgiant panda corridors in QinlingMountains, seeking and collectingDNA samples, measuring pandafeces, and also sorting and enteringrelevant data information.In the next few months, before andafter the winter season, interiorresearches will be based on thesecollected samples and information,and supplementary survey willalso be arranged according to theresearch findings. At the meantime,another round of field work willbe targeted on the conditionsof the panda habitat, bamboosdistribution, disturbing factors,as well as the social economydevelopment in the QinlingMountains.According to Shaanxi ForestryDepartment, the ongoing surveyand research process is goingsmoothly and effectively, and all thefindings and results will be releasedafter all the survey tasks havefinished.y.6
