MIDDLE COLLEGE NewsStarting Year 8 in 2012?Monday28 November 20118:30am to 3:00pmLast week Mrs Bengtson’s Year 2/3 students ventured over to Middle College to dosome buddy reading with Mrs Blane’s Year 8 class. The students practiced theirreading, predicting, and summary skills together. They read aloud to each other andthen worked to write a short summary and illustrate a part of the story or the imagethat they had visualised while reading. The Year 8 students even made some spaceto put up their buddy reading work in the classroom. It was a lovely morning andboth classes had fun.The Year 6/7K students atRiverside Christian Collegehave raised funds for theMaryborough Animal Refuge.It all started when the studentleaders decided to participate ina community service project.Class leaders, Jade Cotter andMackai Johns-Francis decidedto raise money to help the localrefuge. The two leaders createdvoting ballots to give theirclassmates a say in what kindof fundraiser they wouldorganise and facilitate.By majority vote, 6/7K decidedto hold a sausage sizzle thatraised $723.20.Four hundred sausages weredonated by Colleen andRichard Cotter of BiggendenButchery for the barbeque.With the money raised,students were able to buy a boxof toys for both dogs and cats,a wheelbarrow, two brooms,and $400.00 worth of canneddog food. Students invitedMr John Andrews from therefuge to come and receive thedonation. SENIOR COLLEGE News2012 C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship Opens SoonThe 2012 C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship opens onMonday 5 December 2011 and closes on Friday 6 January 2012.The C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship is one of the most generousprivately funded scholarships available to undergraduate studentsin Australia. Each scholarship is valued at up to $60,000 over fouryears. Information about the C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship and anapplication form are available at www.hawkerscholarship.org orby contacting the secretary to the Trustees on 08 8127 1654.The Charles Hawker Scholarship perpetuates the memory ofscholar, soldier, pastoralist and statesman Charles Allan SeymourHawker and commemorates the achievements of one ofAustralia’s most respected pastoral pioneers.In 2010, seven scholarships were awarded. This year the Trusteesawarded four scholarships to students from three states and theACT. Governor‐General Ms Quentin Bryce AC presented thestudents with their scholarships at a function at GovernmentHouse in Canberra.The scholarships are available to all Australian students. Since1991 the majority have been awarded to students entering theirfirst year of university study.Selection is largely based on personal qualities as well as academicability.
