DESIGN OF BUILDINGS OVER OR NEAR RAILWAYS, Revision C5.3 Design Rep<strong>or</strong>tA <strong>design</strong> rep<strong>or</strong>t on the measures adoptedf<strong>or</strong> collision protection is to be included inthe drawings and documentation to besubmitted to <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> as required bySection 3.1.6.0 SUPERSTRUCTURE6.1 GeneralBuilding superstructures <strong>over</strong> existing tracksare to be <strong>design</strong>ed to minimise the timeneeded f<strong>or</strong> erection, e.g. precast /prefabricated components. The aim is tominimise any delays to train services duringconstruction from speed restrictions, trackclosures and / <strong>or</strong> isolations <strong>of</strong> the <strong>over</strong>headtraction wiring equipment.The connection between the deck and piersis to be <strong>design</strong>ed to minimise the risk <strong>of</strong>collapse in the event <strong>of</strong> an earthquake <strong>or</strong>collision from railway traffic.6.2 Building DrainageBuilding drainage is to discharge in amanner which does not adversely affectrailway tracks, associated railway facilities<strong>or</strong> property occupied by <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>.Building drainage discharge via scuppers isnot permitted from spans <strong>over</strong> existing andfuture railway tracks. Building drainagepipes are to comply with the requirementsf<strong>or</strong> services in Section 9.7.0 TRAFFIC BARRIERSIn areas <strong>of</strong> the building accessible byvehicles, traffic barriers are to be providedacross the railway c<strong>or</strong>rid<strong>or</strong>s to preventvehicles from accessing <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>tracks and property.<strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> on the barrier perf<strong>or</strong>mancelevel.8.0 PROTECTION SCREENSProtection screens are to be <strong>design</strong>ed toprotect the railway by preventing:• public access to <strong>over</strong>head tractionwiring equipment and the track, and /<strong>or</strong>• the throwing <strong>of</strong> objects at trains,stations and staff / public on therailway c<strong>or</strong>rid<strong>or</strong>.The minimum requirements f<strong>or</strong> protectionscreens are provided in <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>Technical Requirement MCE-SR-008.9.0 SERVICESBuildings are not to disturb existing<strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> services (signal,telecommunications and OHLE) and otherexternally-owned services. Existingunderground services that are to remain inplace are to be protected from loads duringconstruction and operation <strong>of</strong> the building.Design details are to be submitted to<strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> f<strong>or</strong> review.The building’s services, including pipes f<strong>or</strong>deck drainage, are not to be attached to thesides <strong>or</strong> undersides <strong>of</strong> <strong>buildings</strong> <strong>over</strong> <strong>or</strong>adjacent to the railway.Services and their attachment to the buildingare to have a 100 year <strong>design</strong> life and are tobe <strong>design</strong>ed f<strong>or</strong> replacement withouteffecting <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> operations.Design and material selection is to besubject to review by <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong>.Drainage systems are to be <strong>design</strong>ed toprevent leakage onto the railway c<strong>or</strong>rid<strong>or</strong>.Traffic barriers are to be <strong>design</strong>ed inacc<strong>or</strong>dance with AS 5100 Bridge Designand <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Rail</strong> TechnicalRequirement MCE-SR-007. Building<strong>design</strong>ers are to reach agreement withPage 6 <strong>of</strong> 11
