BOTE & BOCKMamlok, UrsulaConfluencesfor clarinet, violin, cello and piano(2001)Confluences is a three-movementwork for clarinet, violin, violoncelloand piano which was composedfor the New York ContinuumEnsemble in 2001. In the shortfirst movement, a two-note motifwanders through the strings whilethe piano plays delicate figures inthe descant. The second movement,Grazioso, is the most elaborateamong the three, beginningwith a fast arch-shaped themeplayed by the clarinet. From thistheme emerge oscillating arpeggioswhich repeatedly dissolveinto turning motifs. The finalmovement, entitled ‘peaceful,floating’, contains a transparentdialogue between all members ofthe ensemble.
