<strong>Waggener</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Administrators & Faculty, 1958 to 1962:Arthur K. DrautFrom November 1959 Chit ChatMEET MR. DRAUT: One of the busiest men in <strong>Waggener</strong> <strong>High</strong><strong>School</strong> is Mr. Arthur Draut, who is one of the new assistant principals toMr. Duncan.Mr. Draut received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Universityed Louisville in 949. He started his profession of teaching at Eastern<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> in 1949, but the Navy interrupted his career in 1951 duringthe Korean War. In 1952 he returned to Eastern <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>, where hetaught until 1954. In 1954, he came to <strong>Waggener</strong> to teach seventh grade core and math and to run thebookstore.In 1957, he became the Dean of Boys, and in the same year, he received his Masters degree in EducationAdministration from the University of Louisville.Improvement With Scholarship: One improvement, which Mr. draut notices, is the maturity of theseniors, and he considers this an important factor for <strong>Waggener</strong>, now that it is a full sized high school.He feels that for our school to have fourteen semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Programand five outstanding Carnegie Scholars, is a great ac<strong>com</strong>plishment for <strong>Waggener</strong>.Another thing which greatly impresses Mr. Draut is the high potential of <strong>Waggener</strong>‘s athletic teams.He is also proud of the fact that the football team has has a fine, outstanding and winning year.When asked what the aim of the student body should be, Mr. Draut said, ―The aim for the studentsshould be for everyone to do his best at all times in both the classroom and in outside activities. Ifeveryone would succeed in doing this, <strong>Waggener</strong> could be the most outstanding school in the state.‖Art Draut in enlisted uniform. After servingas enlisted man in WWII and Korea hewas promoted to Officer Rank and retiredas a Commander in 1968.
