<strong>Minutes</strong> <strong>from</strong> <strong>PAC</strong> <strong>Meeting</strong><strong>March</strong> 5, <strong>2012</strong>Present: Deanna Foreman, Marcia Fisher, Gina Moscrip, Nikki Munroe, Karina Younk, Kirsten Doucette,Karen DunnChairpersons Report: Deanna ForemanDeanna greeted everyone and thanked Karen for allowing us to meet at her home during the strike.The Smurf movie night was a success due to the parents and students who attended with theassistance of the <strong>PAC</strong> members to pull it all together, i.e. making popcorn, etc. Special thanks to JenChase for lending us our movie and Mr. Schlitz for assisting with the sound and setup.Food Share and Garden ProjectAnna Dodds was not able to attend. We need a few guys to help put together the green housesupplied by Rona, as well as a covered shed for the recycling. Kirsten will contact a couple of groupsto see if they can assist. Karina will let us now when the supplies arrive.The <strong>PAC</strong> will purchase some new garden gloves for the students.Secretary’s Report: Deanna ForemanA big thank you to the <strong>PAC</strong> card was made and signed by all the students that attended thesymphony performance in February. If you haven’t had a chance to see the beautiful card, it ishanging under the <strong>PAC</strong> Board in the hallway (across <strong>from</strong> Mrs. Ramler’s room).We have received an invitation to attend the Appreciation Tea put on by the Nanaimo-Ladysmith<strong>School</strong>s Foundation on April 12 at 1:30-3:30. This is a Thursday afternoon and we will see whomight be able to attend—we need to RSVP by <strong>March</strong> 30 th .The kindergarten teachers gave us a thank you card in advance for sponsoring the kinderswim inJune.Treasurer’s Report: Marcia FisherReport is attachedWe have made approximately $70 in popcorn sales. A big thank you to Mary Jane Baker, KarenDunn, and Deanna Foreman for all their work in making sure the popcorn is ready for our movienights.Bingo Report: Deanna Foreman Dues are paid for this year. Thank you to those of you who are representing us on our bingo nights. Marcia and Deanna attend the quarterly meeting on Sunday, <strong>March</strong> 4 th .Hot Lunch Report: Karen Dunn/Gina Moscrop The pizza lunch was postponed to <strong>March</strong> 30 th in lieu of a possible teachers’ strike. The commercial dishwasher is scheduled to be installed in the multi purpose room.


The next salad bar is scheduled for April 20 th . Karen will invite the Rotary, <strong>School</strong> Trustees, CityCouncil, Knights of Columbus, and the 50 th anniversary members. We can only offer pre-soldlunches—we cannot accommodate drop-ins.Fundraiser Report: Kirsten Doucette and Deanna ForemanTrack meet concessions: Karina will email the fundraising committee when the participationrequest comes. The dates are posted on the old school website.Beverage and Burger Night: <strong>March</strong> 31 st at 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Harewood Arms Pub. Tichets canbe purchased <strong>from</strong> Kirsten—the pub can hold approximately 80.Donation items are being received for door prizes and silent auction. Discussed using thebronze, silver, and gold system to give out prizes so that we are finished before the band starts.Volunteers will be needed to sell raffle and 50/50 tickets, etc. Please follow up with Kirsten.There will be two 50/50 draws along with two meat draws.D<strong>PAC</strong> Report: Gina Moscrip had no reportPrincipal’s Report: Karina YounkSee attachedKarina will need help Tuesday or Wednesday to set up the stage so that children can practice for thespring concert on Thursday.New Business:Friday, April 13 th is the Freaky Friday dance—dress up as your favorite character<strong>PAC</strong> will buy some snacks available to everyoneGrade 7’s will operate concession and raise funds towards their camping tripScholastic Book Fair will also need to be set up during the day of Friday, April 13 th . The Book Fairruns Monday, April 16 th <strong>from</strong> 2 – 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, April 17 th <strong>from</strong> 2 – 4 p.m. in the Library.BodySmart—Navigating Girl World is geared to for parents with the purpose of strengtheningconfidence and positive image with their daughters. We can use this as a fundraiser with thecost at $500. Tickets will be sold: $5 to Park Avenue parents, $10 for parents <strong>from</strong> otherschools, and $15 at the door. We will be the first school to offer this in Nanaimo. NavigatingBoy World is currently being developed and hopefully we could offer that one next year. Kirstenwill look at setting this up on one of these possible dates: April 25 th or May 2 nd .Karina is communicating with Lifeworks who would work with teachers and the counselor tooffer Sex Ed to the appropriate grades.Year-end BBQ: We can use school grounds and set up fun events with the picnic. Last day ofschool is June 27 th , fun day could be moved to June 22 <strong>from</strong> the 26 th , with the BBQ on Monday,June 25 th at 5:30Next <strong>Meeting</strong>: April 2, <strong>2012</strong> at 6 p.m.
