2MANUSCRIPT PREPARATIONSpecial CharactersPlease discuss with your editor any requirements for special characters, e.g. mathematicalsymbols, musical notation or foreign language characters, in advance of submitting thetypescript.TypingThe entire typescript, including preliminary pages, notes, bibliography, etc., should bedouble-spaced with 28 lines to a page. Leave good margins to the left and right. Numberthe whole script from the first page of the text following the prelims to the end, notchapter by chapter (this applies equally to multi-author works).PrelimsA set of Preliminary pages should be included at the beginning of your manuscript upondelivery of the work to your editor. The pages should be numbered in Roman numerals. Ifyou have no content for the page (e.g. the imprint page), insert a correctly numbered pagewith the corresponding heading (e.g. title the page, „Imprint page‟).The order of the Prelims should be as follows:Half title iSeries page iiTitle page iiiImprint page ivDedication vContents viList of illustrationsAcknowledgementsForeword ixPreface xviiviiiIf your list varies from the above, add or remove the additional page(s) where appropriateand re-number accordingly, using consecutive Roman numerals. (For example, if your bookis not part of a series, you would not have a „Series page‟.)Also, please note that a preface is written by the author, and a foreword is written bysomeone other than the author.HeadingsHeadings must be differentiated to indicate their order of importance. Make sure thevarious categories of headings (chapter headings, first sub-headings and second subheadings)are clearly indicated and consistent. We will decide on an appropriate format forheadings and mark up your script according to a typesetter‟s layout.US AuthorsAmerican authors and editors will be asked to use American spellings and mechanical stylethroughout their books. They should consult The Chicago Manual of Style (15th Edition, TheUniversity of Chicago Press) when preparing their manuscript. The chosen style must beused consistently throughout the manuscript. Please contact your editor should this requirefurther clarification.
