National Strategic Rural Development Plan (NSRDP) 2007-20132013Programme type: Rural Development Programme of GreeceBiodiversity/Wetlands content: “…improve the environment andbroadly develop country's rural areas through financing supportsupplied by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EARFD).…” Priority Axis: Improvement of the Environment and the Countryside (Priority Axis 2)Related actions/interventions: biodiversity, protection and development ofecological agriculture and forestry systems, traditional agricultural landscapes etc.Projects can include activities related to sustainability of:- agricultural land, special investments in ecological networks such as NATURA 2000- forestry areas, for example afforestation, renewable forest potential andprevention and non-production investmentsBeneficiaries: Rural stakeholders, agricultural organizations, associations and unions,environmental protection associations, farmers, foresters etc. Total budget of priority axis: 1,93 bil. € (EARFD: 1,46 bil. €)


National Strategic Plan for Fisheries Development (NSPFD) 2007-20132013Programme type: National Strategic Plan for Fisheries Development (NSPFD)Biodiversity/Wetlands content: “…conservation and sustainable use of marineresources….recreation possibilities in marine and coastal ecosystems.…” Priority Axis: Sustainable development of fishing areas (Priority Axis 4)Related actions/interventions: biodiversity friendly activities in marine and coastalecosystems e.g. management of NATURA 2000 sites (financed activities need to belinked with fisheries activities)Beneficiaries: Organizations involved in the fisheries sector, professionalorganizations, environmental organizations, workers in the fisheries sector etc. Total budget: 274,1 mil. € (EFF: 207,8 mil. €)


European TerritorialCooperation Programs


European Territorial Cooperation Programme “Greece – Italy” Programme type: Operational Programme –“Greece – Italy” 2007-2013Biodiversity/Wetlands content: “…improvement and upgrading of the system forprotecting and managing the natural and man-made environment which contributes tothe reduction of natural and technological risks and initiatives for joint promotion ofthe natural sites…”Priority Axis: Improvement of quality of life, protection of the environment andenhancement of social and cultural cohesion (Priority Axis 3)Related actions/interventions: promotion of biodiversity and <strong>nature</strong> protection,protection of natural assets, management of ecological protected areas, restorationof ecological balance etc.Beneficiaries: Local (Municipalities) and Regional Administrative Authorities,Management bodies for protected sites (Natura etc), NGOs etc. Total budget of priority axis: 48,6 mil. € (ERDF: 36,4 mil. €) Measure Code 51: 1,7 mil. €


ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2007-2013Programme type: Cross-border Cooperation:Mediterranean Sea Basin ProgrammeBiodiversity/Wetlands content: “…support for adaptation strategies to increaseecosystem resilience to climate change and reduce risk of loss of ecosystem values andservices, improving the management of the forest/vegetation cover…”Priority Axis: Promotion of environmental sustainability at the basin level (PriorityAxis 2) - Prevention and reduction of risk factors for the environment andenhancement of natural common heritage (Measure 2.1)Related actions/interventions: preservation and enhancement of environmentalresources protection of maritime and land heritage, setting up networks betweennatural parks, reserves and environmental education centers, enhancing thespecificities of the Mediterranean landscapes, fishing tourism etc.Beneficiaries: Local authorities, development agencies, environmental agencies andassociations, universities, management bodies for protected areas (parks) etc. Total budget of priority axis: 51,5 mil. € (ENPI & ERDF contributions: 46,8 mil. €)


MED Operational Programme 2007-2013Programme type: Transnational Cooperation: MED ProgrammeBiodiversity/Wetlands content: “… promote a sustainable regional development,cooperate in order to ensure responsible management, preservation and valorizationof natural resources and heritage…”Priority Axis: Protection of the environment and promotion of a sustainableterritorial development (Priority Axis 2) – Protection and enhancement of naturalresources and heritage (Objective 2.1)Related actions/interventions: promoting biodiversity through protection andenhancement of natural resources, transnational initiatives to improve assessment,measurement, certification, monitoring and management systems of naturalresources, awareness rising activities etc.Beneficiaries: Regions, local authorities, reserves and natural parks, environmentalagencies and associations, development agencies, research institutes etc. Total budget of priority axis: 87,2 mil. € (ERDF: 65,6 mil. €) Measure Code 51: 8,6 mil. €
