<strong>RICHLAND</strong> <strong>COMMUNITY</strong> <strong>COLLEGE</strong>N.A.A.C.P. College Chapter (Charter Date July 12, 2001) – The purpose of this club is topromote diversity as an asset by having students from various social and cultural groups cometogether to discuss issues perpetuated by race, creed, religion, sex, or national origin. Further,this club will assist students in their endeavors to understand the cultures of others.P.A.W. (Performing Arts Workshop) (Chartered in January 2005) - The purpose of PAW isto promote the appreciation and support of the performing arts among the student body ofRichland Community College.Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) (Chartered in October 1974) – This organization, a local chapter ofan international two-year college honor society, initiates eligible members twice a year. Studentsachieving a 3.5 grade point average with 12 or more credit hours at RCC, at the 100 level orabove, are eligible for membership. This organization engages in social, educational, andcharitable projects.P.R.I.D.E. (People Respecting Individual Differences in Everyone) (Charter Date October11, 1996) – The purposes of People Respecting Individual Differences in Everyone (P.R.I.D.E.)are to provide education surrounding gay, lesbian, and bisexual issues, to foster a greaterawareness and tolerance for gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons and issues, and furnish social andemotional support to gay, lesbian, and bisexual persons and allies on campus.Program Board (Established April 1983) – The Program Board consists of students, faculty,and staff who plan and arrange College-wide events. Involvement in the Program Board bringshands-on experience in the areas of time management, delegation, and budgeting, as well asdeveloping skills in leadership and decision making. Membership on the Program Board is opento all students who are enrolled in three (3) semester hours and in good academic and financialstanding with the College. Along with developing the calendar section of the StudentHandbook and the Reception and Recognition Program, unique learning opportunities areprovided through professional entertainers, seminars, lectures, and displays.RN Student Nurses Club (Charter Date November 8, 1991) – The RN Student Nurses Clubwas formed to promote interest and to provides information about nursing and other healthcareers. Meetings are scheduled monthly throughout fall and spring semesters at a timeconvenient for the majority of the members. The club sponsors educational and communityservice programs both on and off campus.Sexual Assault Awareness and Education Organization (SAAEO) Club (Chartered inOctober 2003) – The purpose of this club shall be to provide awareness and education tostudents, faculty/staff and the community about sexual assault and sexual abuse, as well as toprovide support for victim, survivors, and significant others of sexual assault/abuse.Student Ambassador Mentors (Charter Date September 5, 1990) – Student AmbassadorMentors (SAMs) participate in the Student Orientation Advisement and Registration Program.They help new students make a smoother transition to higher education and introduce newstudents to the broad educational opportunities at Richland. They provide on-going support tostudents in the areas of positive attitude development and relationship-building with faculty,staff, and peers. Student Ambassador Mentors are knowledgeable and can refer students toappropriate College services and to staff who provide services for students. Student AmbassadorMentors are nominated by faculty members or staff or may apply directly to the program.2006-07 Institutional Data Book 94


<strong>RICHLAND</strong> <strong>COMMUNITY</strong> <strong>COLLEGE</strong>Student Senate (Established 1975) – The purpose of the Student Senate is to represent thestudents of Richland Community College through effective communications by promoting unityand fellowship with all members of the College community. We encourage the development ofcampus organizations and activities that will meet the needs and interests of the students. TheStudent Senate strives to represent and interpret student opinion as related to the information oncampus policy and to distribute the academic fees to provide a variety of educational and socialopportunities for students. Students are elected each Fall and Spring Semester to the 12-memberboard. Petitions are available at the secretary’s desk in the Campus Life Office. Full- and parttimestudents are eligible for governmental posts providing they are in academic and financialgood standing with the College. The Student Senate meets weekly to take action on matters ofconcern for the student body. Members of the Senate also serve with faculty and administrationon designated committees to represent the students’ point of view. The Student Trustee iselected each Spring Semester by the student body to serve as an advisory voting member of theBoard of Trustees. The Student Trustee may make and second motions during the Boardmeetings, and the Student Trustee also serves on the Student Senate.Surgical Technology Club (Chartered in 2002) – The purpose of this club is to provide aforum to explore the education and vocation of surgical technology. Membership in this clubshall be open to anyone with an interest in surgical technology and/or surgical technologyeducation.Visions of Design (Chartered in 2003) – As members of Visions of Design, we endeavor tocreate and use our inner desires and discoveries as artists to educate and raise awareness aboutGraphic Arts to the community around us. We strive to create high standards and respect for ourprofession and to become mentors for those who will come after us. In our efforts, we also wantto reach out to the community and search out innovative ideas that could cultivate the growthpotential of this profession.W.I.N.S. (Women In New Seasons) (Charter Date October 10, 2006) - W.I.N.S. shall furtherthe exchange of information and cooperation between members, to promote the causes of ISTEP,and to conduct the club programs and activities as to advance the general interest and welfare ofthe ISTEP program within the community.W.O.W. (Women Of Worth) (Chartered in 2005) – The purpose of Women of Worth ofStudent Support Services/TRIO is to provide support for each other and to become empoweredwomen through education, knowledge, awareness, skills, appreciation of diversity, and service tothe community.X-Ray Vision (Charter Date March 31, 2004) – The purpose of this club is to promote thecareer of radiology.2006-07 Institutional Data Book 95
