Advising FirstWho Are We?Advising First is a program within the Division ofUndergraduate Studies at Florida State University.<strong>The</strong> program places professional academic advisorsthroughout the University’s many academicunits, as well as other off-site locations to assistundergraduate students with a variety of academic<strong>and</strong> non-academic issues. Currently, Advising Firsthas approximately 40 professional advisors workingin numerous locations across campus.What We Do?Advising First staff provide academic advising tohelp FSU students meet liberal studies, major, <strong>and</strong>university requirements. Along with being housedin colleges <strong>and</strong> departments, our advisors are alsoavailable in the UCA Advising Center, Eppes,Oglesby Union, Strozier Library, Suwannee DiningHall, <strong>and</strong> a variety of other “floating locations”across campus.<strong>The</strong> Eppes Advising Center focuses on advisingfreshman <strong>and</strong> sophomore students who are not readyto declare an intended major. This center worksclosely with undecided/exploratory students tohelp them take the appropriate liberal studies <strong>and</strong>introductory courses while exploring their availableacademic <strong>and</strong> career options. <strong>The</strong> UCA AdvisingCenter focuses on assisting students with majorchanges <strong>and</strong> working with students who are requiredto change their major under the university’s new“mapping” system, a process we call “re-vising.”Why Should You Come to See Us?In order to graduate from FSU, students mustcomplete a combination of Liberal Studies,University, <strong>and</strong> major requirements. Meeting all ofthese requirements can sometimes feel overwhelmingfor students.
