It seems to be an unvarying rule, thatlight and opportunity afforded by thetruth must be used, or these talents forservice will be taken away. We mustlet our light so shine as to glorify ourFather in heaven, else it will becomedarkness.After all, the principle of our Father'sdealing with us--allowing us to be light-bearersto others, seems to be as muchor more to develop and bless us throughthe incidental labor and sacrifice, as tobless those to whom we bear the light;for unquestionably God could spreadthe truth without our feeble aid.The Lord has so placed us that oursacrifices must be free-will offerings, andthe measure of our sacrifice and self-denial,in whatever form, must in ourLord's sight be the measure or gauge ofour love and appreciation of his favors andexceeding great and precious promises.When presenting themselves beforethe Lord in the parable of the Talents,each one was approved equally, whohad used what talents he had, few ormany, "every man according to hisseveral ability." And our Lord showedthat it was the spirit of sacrifice whichhe appreciated when he said of the poorwidow who cast two mites into the Lord'streasury, "She hath cast in more thanthey all." She, in her penury, had madea greater sacrifice than some who hadgiven much more.Some, and probably most, of themoney accounted for in the above----------*We here remark that the Florida land donatedto the Society, is not included in the above account,as it did not come into the Society's possessionbefore the close of 1884. When it has all beensold we hope to be more than out of debt, so thatvirtually we may so consider the matter now.
