after collecting all<br />
examination material and<br />
dismissing all the other<br />
candidates, the offending<br />
student, shall be asked<br />
to comment and sign<br />
on the Examination<br />
Incident Report form,<br />
which will be submitted<br />
to the Principal<br />
Examination <strong>Of</strong>ficer,<br />
with copies to the<br />
relevant Faculty Dean<br />
and Head of Department,<br />
immediately after<br />
the exam, no later<br />
than 24 hours after<br />
the occurrence of the<br />
incidence.<br />
v. The student shall be<br />
permitted to continue<br />
writing the rest of the<br />
remaining examinations.<br />
The evidence collected<br />
and the written<br />
statements of the<br />
invigilators and student<br />
shall then be submitted<br />
to the <strong>Institute</strong> Students’<br />
Disciplinary Committee<br />
for deliberation. If the<br />
student is thereafter<br />
found guilty of<br />
examination cheating<br />
or malpractice, the<br />
Committee shall<br />
recommend to Senate<br />
that the student be deregistered<br />
and expelled<br />
indefinitely from the<br />
institution.<br />
302 Invigilators/ Examiners are<br />
required to submit written<br />
reports to relevant Heads<br />
of Departments or other<br />
appropriate authorities as<br />
soon as possible any instance<br />
of a breach of Examination<br />
Regulations.<br />
303 The <strong>Institute</strong>’s Students<br />
Disciplinary Committee shall<br />
review all reports received in<br />
connection with Examination<br />
Cheating or malpractice. If<br />
the findings of the Student<br />
Disciplinary Committee are<br />
that a candidate is guilty<br />
of examination malpractice<br />
or cheating, the committee<br />
shall recommend to Senate<br />
that the student be deregistered<br />
immediately and<br />
expelled indefinitely from the<br />
Institution.<br />
304 If a student found guilty<br />
of examination cheating<br />
or malpractice, against<br />
who a decision has been<br />
entered for de-registration<br />
and indefinite expulsion,<br />
wishes to appeal against the<br />
penalty, he or she shall have<br />
a right to a hearing by the<br />
<strong>Institute</strong> Students Disciplinary<br />
Committee and may bring<br />
a witness to support him or<br />
her in the hearing. He or she<br />
shall be warned, however,<br />
that if the previous verdict<br />
is confirmed by this hearing<br />
then, the Student Disciplinary<br />
Committee may levy a fine<br />
of RWF 5,000 in addition<br />
to upholding the previous<br />
verdict of de-registration and<br />
indefinite expulsion from the<br />
<strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
305 If a student makes an appeal<br />
against a penalty imposed<br />
by the <strong>Institute</strong> Students<br />
Disciplinary Committee<br />
and then fails to attend<br />
the hearing, the appeal<br />
hearing shall be held in his<br />
or her absence, the evidence<br />
available reviewed and<br />
the penalty reconfirmed or<br />
varied.<br />
306 When plagiarism is proven<br />
for any component of<br />
written assignment, project<br />
report for an undergraduate<br />
degree or dissertation<br />
for a higher degree that<br />
has been submitted for<br />
summative assessment, the<br />
student shall fail the project<br />
or dissertation without<br />
possibility of resubmission.<br />
