Through a groupwideTQM movement initiated in1993, process changes arecontinuously implemented to lowerthroughput time, inventories,material costs and wastage.Through horizontal integrationwith production and sales, materialgroups have reduced procurementlead times drastically. Withsuppliers also getting aligned, thestock position is very close to actualday-to-day needs. Design, Materials,Production and Marketing work ascustomers to each other, for thequality and cost benefit of thecustomer outside.An ISO 14001 CompanyThermax has an ISO 14001 certification from DetNorske Veritas for its environmental managementsystem in its manufacturing plant at Chinchwad. Thecertification recognises Thermax's comprehensiveenvironmental management system and its proactiveapproach for preservation of the environment, which callsfor active initiation of change based on anticipateddevelopments, rather than merely reacting to events that occur. The certification alsoindicates commitment to compliance with environmental regulations and legislation,sustainable development through prevention of pollution, conservation of resources,reduction of waste generation and continual improvement of the system.Environmental measures implemented in the manufacturing plant include constructionof an effluent plant, a closed drainage system and greening of the entire complex.Thermax also buys green power from a wind farm located in Satara district ofMaharashtra.19
