Page 8December, 2010 Yard of the MonthIt is both interesting and inspiring to see how different people decorate for Christmas.Driving through Heritage Ranch looking at all the beautiful lights really put usin the mood to celebrate! The home of Howard and Ann Couch at 350 Pine Valley is our Yard of the MonthChristmas Lights winner for 2010. Mechanical reindeer, Santa and Rudolph doingthe twist, presents and candy canes glowing, and a wonderful train were just a fewof the things we enjoyed. Trees and shrubs were draped with lights and the walkwayto the front door was lit showing off the beautiful wreath above the door. The entireyard was aflame with dancing lights, a beautiful sight to behold on a cold winternight! Each month the HR Garden Club nominates outstanding gardens and representativesfrom Puckett’s Nursery choose the winning yard. A Yard of the Month sign isplaced in the winning yard the first of the month, and a flat of flowers are complimentsof Puckett’s. February, 2011 www.heritageranchhoa.com • Heritage Ranch ReporterPage 23Attention: New ClubHeritage Ranch Patriots ClubPatriotism is seen and felt every day at Heritage Ranch, so why do we need to forma PATRIOTS CLUB?A few Heritage Ranch Chorale members have for the past five years organized andmanaged the CURBSIDE FLAG displays (July 4th and Veterans Day), repaired, stored and purchased all replacement flags from their own pockets or donationsfrom residents and/or resident realtors. These few volunteers also organized andmanaged a residential 3X5 American Flag sale to more than 125 residents and thesale of 13,000 plus curbside flags to individuals and block groups. The question most often asked by passer-bys during the placement of curbside flagswas: Why do you put out flags only on these two National Holidays? The answeris: We only have a limited number of volunteers and it takes a lot people to put out4,500-5,000 flags four or five times each year.A PATRIOTS CLUB that is open to all residents will offer more resources and organizationalskills to develop an annual program that publicizes and performs patrioticdisplays and activities. Such as: curbside flags displayed on Memorial Day, LaborDay, Patriots Day (September 11th) along with July 4th and Veterans Day; supportand publicize the very moving memorial services of Taps being performed at the exactmoment of each airline going down on September 11; and act as the central pointfor purchasing replacement or new flags during the year. Another patriotic activitycould be supporting the appropriate display of other National Flags, i.e., Canada orMexico, recognizing residents’ heritages.Direct all questions to:Tom Morrison at 972-549-4313 or tamdallas@grandecom.netRemember 10thAnniversary CelebrationDon’t forget the Heritage Ranch Tenth Anniversary celebration set for all dayFriday, May 6, 2011.
