Smart solutions for plankton nets
Smart solutions – catch them all.
With appropriately designed Sefar
plankton nets, harvests of several tons
per day can be achieved. With our
wide range of sieving fabrics plankton
can be perfectly graded.
The result is the correct plankton size
for all development stages of fish
larvae and fry.
Sefar produces plankton nets for all
kind of applications, from very small
to very large net sizes. The fabrics are
also available as roll goods.
Plankton harvest and research require
efficient fabrics with long life cycles.
Plankton nets need mesh openings between
2000 and 20 micrometers. The
correct opening is selected according
to the desired plankton size and the
water quality. In order to fulfil
these requirements, Sefar produces a
large range of mesh openings and
different fabric constructions.
Net cages for fingerling production
Internally illuminated sealed net cages
are stocked with fish larvae and submerged
in natural lakes, large ponds
or bays.
The development of multiple plankton
nets (3 in 1 nets) enables plankton to
be graded into three different sizes
during the catch. It is therefore possible
to feed the whole range of fish from
larvae to fingerlings with plankton of
the correct size.
Zooplankton organisms are attracted
by the light source which is located in
the center of the cages and invade –
due to their photopositive behavior –
steadily through the meshes into the
cages and are consumed by the fish
larvae. The selection of the appropriate
cage mesh size depends on the fish
larval size as well as the plankton size.
Thanks to the use of highly permeable
Sefar precision fabrics in combination
with the multiple plankton nets, every
desired size of feed can be harvested.
