Tripura 246 281.57 4689 77 87.81 1968TOTAL 4344 4981.66 82486 2478 2737.87 42096M.M - Margin Money11.8.5 The following new initiatives havebeen taken for promotion of KVIactivities in NER:(i)(ii)To increase the number of khadiinstitutions in North Eastern States,KVIC has removed the ban onregistration of new khadi institutionslocated in the NER.To improve the technology used inthe KVI sector as also the quality ofproducts, the KVIC has entered intoan arrangement with IIT; Guwahati aspart of its nation-wide programme forhaving S&T interfaces with reputedNational level technical institutes.(iii) The Indian Institute ofEntrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahatihas been recognised as the NodalAgency for NER with the objectiveto implement and monitor REGPprojects being set up in the Regionand to impart training to thebeneficiaries.(v)participating in the exhibitions,melas, etc, organised outside NER.10 per cent space is reserved in allDepartmental Khadi GramodyogBhawans for the products of theinstitutions from NER for marketingof KVI products.11.9 ACTIVITIES OF THE COIRBOARD IN NER11.9.1 The Coir Board is adopting amultifarious approach for the development ofcoir industry in NER for enhancing awarenessof coir and coir products. As a result, demandof coir and coir product is slowly growing. Allthe infrastructural facilities are offered by theBoard to new entrepreneurs for setting upof coir industrial units. Traditional as well asinnovative products such as coir geo-textilesand coir-ply, which have special importancein the topography of the North-East, are alsobeing introduced. Some of the important119
