Pleaseshare this informati<strong>on</strong> with your staff.This notice and future updates will be posted <strong>on</strong> the WCB’s website athttp://www.wcb.ab.ca/providers/WCB’S GENERIC OXYCODONE POSITIONWCB-ALBERTA’S GENERIC OXYCONTIN (OXYCODONE HYDROCHLORIDE) POSITION:The WCB-<str<strong>on</strong>g>Alberta</str<strong>on</strong>g>’s primary c<strong>on</strong>cern is the health and well being of injured workers.Therefore after careful c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> of the available evidence outlining the risks/safety c<strong>on</strong>cernsassociated with the Oxyc<strong>on</strong>tin formulati<strong>on</strong>s, effective April 15, 2013 WCB will no l<strong>on</strong>ger authorizepayment or reimburse costs of generic OxyC<strong>on</strong>tin formulati<strong>on</strong>s of c<strong>on</strong>trolled-release Oxycod<strong>on</strong>e.WCB will <strong>on</strong>ly pay for the OxyNEO formulati<strong>on</strong>s of c<strong>on</strong>trolled-release oxycod<strong>on</strong>e.Coverage for short-acting oxycod<strong>on</strong>e (i.e. OxyIR, Percocet, etc.) will not be affected.How does this affect you as a pharmacist?• Post a notice of this change in your pharmacy (a sample notice is attached) <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> advise workersof this positi<strong>on</strong>.• Be advised that the WCB will not pay for these prescripti<strong>on</strong>s after April 15, 2013. If the workerchooses not <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> accept substituti<strong>on</strong> of generic OxyC<strong>on</strong>tin prescripti<strong>on</strong>s with OxyNEO they areresp<strong>on</strong>sible <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> pay out of pocket for the drug cost.• WCB will pay for generic Oxyc<strong>on</strong>tin prescripti<strong>on</strong>s filled before the effective date of this change.If you have a worker coming <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> your pharmacy with a generic OxyC<strong>on</strong>tin prescripti<strong>on</strong>:• Advise the worker that the WCB will not pay for this drug and they have three opti<strong>on</strong>s:1. If their prescripti<strong>on</strong> allows, you as the pharmacist can substitute OxyNEO. The WCB will payfor OxyNeo and you (or the patient) would submit your invoice <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the WCB as is normallyd<strong>on</strong>e.2. If their prescripti<strong>on</strong> does not allow for substituti<strong>on</strong>, you can c<strong>on</strong>tact thier prescribing physician<strong>on</strong> their behalf <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> obtain a prescripti<strong>on</strong> change <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> OxyNEO or the worker can visit theirphysician in pers<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> discuss a prescripti<strong>on</strong> change. .3.
