Dear Parents February 2008We are now half way through the school year but with challenges to come. For Year 11 it is a time inwhich final calls for examination coursework are being made. In my own subject (Animation) I knowthat the first Monday of the last week of term is my absolute deadline, though other subjects will havedifferent deadlines. Sometimes the difference between grades is a simple matter of a handful of marks. That extra hour or two can make a huge difference. Rushed coursework is not the best coursework. The late buses commence on Tuesday 26th February and run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from thenon. They should be full of Year 11s at the very least. Other years have their deadlines, of course, withYear 10 needing to lay good foundations in the GCSEs and Year 9 preparing for the SATs. Not to ignoreYear 7 who should by now be well established and Year 8, often the forgotten year, needing to stretchthemselves to ensure they are in the highest set possible. In Year 9 most subjects are taught in asetted arrangement. As ever, should any parent wish to discuss problems or progress, we are only atelephone call away.Mr LumsdenParent GovernorWe are pleased to inform you that Mrs Jill Cooper has joined the Governing Body of South AxholmeCommunity School (unopposed).Mrs ScaifePayment of School MealsJust a reminder that you can now put money on lunch cards via debit/credit card. Telephone 01427297907 before 10:30 a.m. and the student‟s account will be credited that day. Calls after this time willbe credited the next day.Mrs ScaifeLate BusesLate buses will re-commence on Tuesday 26 February and will run every Tuesday and Wednesday at4:30 p.m. until Wednesday 21 May 2008. We would like to be able to offer the late bus service for alonger period of time, as they are really helpful to students wishing to stay behind for a wide variety ofactivities including extra lessons/coursework, but the cost of running them prohibits this. If any parentcould help with sponsorship of the late buses, we would be happy to discuss details.Mrs ScaifNational Year of Reading2008 is the National Year of Reading and we are encouraging all our pupils to continue their reading forpleasure. Parents play a big part in setting the pattern – parents who read, talk about reading andspend time reading with their children, have a huge influence. Let‟s get reading!World Book DayTo celebrate World Book Day, Evans Publishers sponsored a story writing competition. Eight of ourpupils were shortlisted and one of them is a winner.
