Dear Chesterfield Day School community,
I am deeply honored and excited to join the Chesterfield Day School community as the Head of School during
our 50th Anniversary celebration year. Since receiving the appointment in November 2010, I have quickly
realized the School’s deep history of providing a personalized education of unparalleled excellence for
students of diverse backgrounds. Our community of parents, faculty, administration, staff, and students is
committed and intentional in making our mission a reality. The information in this Annual Report bears out
that commitment and intentionality.
However, to truly understand this impact, I invite you to walk our halls and talk with a Chesterfield Day
School student. You will quickly realize that she is an autonomous, self-directed, and creative thinker. He is
comfortable working by himself for long periods of time. She is also excited to engage with her peers in
collaborative learning experiences and community service opportunities. He will be comfortable speaking to
you and to a larger group in a confident manner. This confidence will be present in all of her interactions with
peers and adults. Finally, he is a child who understands the importance of kindness, responsibility and making
good and sound decisions. In sum, she enters our School with a love of learning and a passion which is both
intact and deepened when she leaves our School in sixth grade. Indeed, this conversation will leave you
impressed that every “whole child” is deeply and thoughtfully impacted by Chesterfield Day School.
Our School is excited to celebrate its 50th anniversary this coming year. We are eager to celebrate the people
and traditions that have made Chesterfield Day School the excellent school that it is today. We are looking
forward to sharing with others the special feelings that all in our community feel about this School. It will be
a wonderful and memorable year.
Sincerely,
Matt Virgil
