Mental Health in <strong>Kansas</strong> (2005-present). Provide consultation for qualitative analysis <strong>of</strong> group<br />

data.<br />

Principal Investigator, Issues in Research on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender<br />

Populations: Scholars’ Experiences with Institutional Review Boards (January 2003-2004). Led<br />

qualitative research project on the experiences <strong>of</strong> social work scholars who do research with<br />

LGBT populations regarding the responses to their proposals from their institutional review<br />

boards. Supervised a team <strong>of</strong> social work doctoral students.<br />

Research Associate, Opportunities for Families Fund (OFF) Evaluation, Human Services<br />

Research and Design Lab, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Fall, 1994-Spring, 1997)<br />

Participated in a multi-method evaluation <strong>of</strong> four programs receiving OFF grants from Z. Smith<br />

Reynolds Foundation. Duties included managing the institutional review process; conducting onsite<br />

interviews with program staff, participant families, and local community members;<br />

transcribing, coding, analyzing and interpreting interview data; producing progress reports for<br />

the foundation and the program sites; and coordinating technical assistance to program sites.<br />

Supervised by Dr. Ray Kirk <strong>of</strong> the UNC <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Social</strong> Work’s Human Services Research and<br />

Design Lab.<br />

Research Practicum, Safe Dates, <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Public Health, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> North Carolina at<br />

Chapel Hill (Fall 1994-Spring 1995)<br />

Researcher on an intervention research project funded by the Center for Disease Control (CDC),<br />

which used public health education <strong>of</strong> 8th and 9th graders and county service providers to<br />

address violence in teen dating relationships in Johnston County. Designed to strengthen<br />

quantitative research skills, duties included creating a testable hypothesis regarding service<br />

provider data and analyzing the data using SAS and FoxPro s<strong>of</strong>tware. Supervised by Dr. Vangie<br />

A. Foshee, Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, UNC <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Public Health.<br />

Research Assistant, Family To Family Foster Care Initiative, <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Social</strong> Work,<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Research Triangle Institute (RTI) (August 1993<br />

- May 1994)<br />

Participated in a research project evaluating a nationwide child welfare initiative funded by the<br />

Annie E. Casey Foundation. Duties included literature review, facilitating institutional reviews<br />

<strong>of</strong> research protocols, and assisting with the organization and piloting <strong>of</strong> focus groups.<br />
