<strong>The</strong> Eastern Africa Universities <strong>Mathematics</strong> Programme (<strong>EAUMP</strong>) courtesy of <strong>The</strong> Abdus Salam International Centre for <strong>The</strong>oretical Physics (ICTP) and the<br />

International Science Programme (ISP) of Sweden is organizing a School on Combinatorial Commutative Algebra and a second conference in <strong>Mathematics</strong><br />

to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of <strong>EAUMP</strong>. <strong>The</strong> School and <strong>Conference</strong> will be held in Arusha, Tanzania. <strong>The</strong> school will be held from 13th – 21st August,<br />

<strong>2012</strong> at Arusha Technical College. <strong>The</strong> conference will be held from 22 nd – 25 th , August <strong>2012</strong> at <strong>The</strong> Palace Hotel Arusha (http://palacehotel-arusha.com/). <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>Conference</strong> audience will be of senior academics in <strong>Mathematics</strong> from the Eastern Africa region, the rest of Africa, Europe, Asia and United States of<br />

America<br />

GOALS OF THE SCHOOL AND CONFERENCE<br />

� Celebrate the Achievements and the 10'th Anniversary of the <strong>EAUMP</strong> through Paper and Poster presentations of research findings by senior<br />

academics in the region and beyond.<br />

� Stimulation of regional and international collaboration in research and training.<br />

� A forum for interaction of African Mathematicians and others from the developed countries for research experience.<br />

GOALS OF THE SCHOOL<br />

� Introduce African Mathematicians from the region to some fundamental techniques and recent developments in these fields, thus forming research<br />

collaborations.<br />

� Update the knowledge of African Mathematicians particularly Lecturers and M.Sc../Ph.D. students who are stationed at home, to start pursuing<br />

these areas as research interest.<br />

� Advance training of young Mathematicians and Scientists for teaching Positions in institutions of higher learning and research.<br />

PARTICIPATION FOR THE CONFERENCE<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> audience will be of senior academics in <strong>Mathematics</strong> from the Eastern Africa region, the rest of Africa, Europe, Asia and United States of<br />

America. <strong>The</strong> participants of the School will all be expected to participate in the conference. it is anticipated that the total number of conference<br />

participants will be about 100, this includes the School participants who will join the conference.<br />

PARTICIPATION FOR THE SCHOOL<br />

It is intended that the School will take the audience comprising young academic staff members and advanced graduate students (M.sc and Ph.D<br />

Students) of <strong>Mathematics</strong> from the Eastern African region and beyond. Senior academic members interested in the topic may also join the School Lectures.<br />

Participants should preferably have completed some years of study and research after a first degree. We expect about 50 participants (including those that<br />

will be taking CREDIT EXAMS) in total from the <strong>EAUMP</strong> countries. We expect participation from other African countries like Sudan, Southern Sudan, Ethiopia,<br />

Cameroon, Nigeria, Eritrea, Ghana, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar etc as it has been in the past <strong>EAUMP</strong> Schools.<br />

LANGUAGE<br />

English will be the official language of the conference.<br />

CURRENCY<br />

Local currency is the Tanzania Shilling at the foreign exchange rate of US$ 1 = 1,600 Tshs . <strong>The</strong>re are many local Forex bureaus in Arusha, which charge no<br />

commission. Banks and Forex bureaus accept traveler’s cheques and major credits are also accepted at leading hotels and restaurants.<br />

VISA<br />

Visa may be required for International visitors to Arusha - Tanzania. Please check with the respective local Embassy for details and health requirements.<br />

Yellow fever card is mandatory for entry to Tanzania. Letters of invitation will be issued to participants upon request for the processing of traveling<br />

documents.<br />

REGISTRATION<br />

<strong>The</strong>re will be a registration fee of US$ 200 for none members of <strong>EAUMP</strong>. <strong>The</strong> deadline for registration is 15th July, <strong>2012</strong>. Registration to be done by email<br />

before the deadline to the undersigned addresses. Payment of Registration fee will be paid on arrival. Upon Payment of registration fee, all lunches will be<br />

provided and Airport picking done at no extra charges.<br />

� Final Paper : 30 June, <strong>2012</strong><br />

ACCOMMODATION<br />

Hotel charges for accommodation in Arusha ranges from US$30 to US$ 150 per night.<br />

Food ranges from US$ 5.00 to US$ 20.00 a meal.<br />

FINANCIAL SUPPORT<br />

� Limited financial assistance to cater for (full/partial) travels and/or local expenses is available depending on the availability of sponsors. However, every<br />

effort should be made by candidates to secure full support for their fare .<br />

� Candidates will be selected by the organizers, and will be informed on the result at least one month before the respective event.<br />

�You can also apply directly to INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICAL UNION- Commission on Development and Exchanges (IMU/CDC) for financial support.


Note: Preference will be given to those candidates who can cater for their full support.<br />
