University and otheraffiliationsCentre for ForensicBehavioural ScienceThe Centre for Forensic BehaviouralScience, established as a collaborativeventure between <strong>Forensicare</strong> and MonashUniversity in <strong>2006</strong>, was officially ratifiedby Monash University in June <strong>2007</strong>. TheCentre, located within the Faculty ofMedicine, Nursing and Health Sciences atMonash University, is headed by ProfessorJames Ogloff (Foundation Professor ofClinical Forensic Psychology, MonashUniversity, and Direc<strong>to</strong>r of PsychologicalServices, <strong>Forensicare</strong>).The Centre for Forensic BehaviouralScience aims <strong>to</strong> become Australasia’sleading centre for excellence in the areasof forensic mental health and forensicbehavioural science research, teachingand practice development. It is envisagedthat the Centre will evolve and strengthenthe field of forensic behavioural science,both in Australia and internationally. A keyfocus of the Centre is <strong>to</strong> transfer academicand clinical excellence in<strong>to</strong> practice in thehealth, community services and criminaljustice sec<strong>to</strong>rs.The Centre for Forensic BehaviouralScience brings <strong>to</strong>gether academics,clinicians, researchers and students froma variety of disciplines. The specialistareas of psychiatry, psychology, socialwork, law, nursing, occupational therapyand epidemiology are all represented.Additional expertise is available throughaffiliations established with industrypartners, such as Vic<strong>to</strong>ria Police andCorrections Vic<strong>to</strong>ria, and internationalexperts.STAFFProfessor James Ogloff leads a multidisciplinaryteam of researchers andclinicians, including Professor PaulMullen, Dr Stuart Thomas, AssociateProfessor Trish Martin, Dr Andrew Carroll,Dr Teresa Flower, and Dr Kathy Avent.Associated Monash University researchersinclude Professor Bernadette McSherry,Dr Jonathan Clough, Dr Michael Daffern,Dr Kylie Thompson, Dr Christine Tye,Ms Lisa Warren, Dr Rosemary Sheehan,Dr Louise Farnsworth and Mr MichaelDavis.TERTIARY EDUCATION PROGRAMSDoc<strong>to</strong>r of Psychology (Clinical) withSpecialisation in Forensic PsychologyThe DPsych in Clinical Psychology offeredthrough the Centre for ForensicBehavioural Science is a three and a halfyear program which includes research,coursework and supervised practicalexperience. It prepares psychologists,using the scientist- practitioner model,<strong>to</strong> conduct research in applied areas ofpsychology and <strong>to</strong> work as clinicalpsychologists in the assessment andtreatment of adults and children withrelatively severe emotional and/orbehavioural disorders.The program has been accredited by theAustralian Psychological Society (APS) formembership in the APS College of ClinicalPsychologists. The completion of theforensic specialisation is required forgraduates <strong>to</strong> attain membership of theAPS College of Forensic Psychologists.Further information on the course isavailable from -http://www.med.monash.edu.au/spppm/pgrad/dcp-info.htmlGraduate Program in ForensicBehavioural ScienceThe Graduate Program in ForensicBehavioural Science has been developed<strong>to</strong> enhance the knowledge and skills of abroad range of professionals working withpeople displaying antisocial and criminalbehaviour. The program addresses bothassessment and management issues andassists professionals <strong>to</strong> incorporate ‘bestpractice’ principles in<strong>to</strong> their daily workpractices. All units are delivered in an offcampuslearning (distance education)format.Program content has been developed,and is delivered, by experts in the fieldfrom a range of disciplines, includingforensic psychiatry, forensic psychology,nursing, bioethics and law. All contribu<strong>to</strong>rshave clinical as well as academicresponsibilities.
