At present, a large gap exists betweenthe rhetoric <strong>of</strong> CSR and actual business practicesthat are in place – although a variety <strong>of</strong> CSR ideashave been introduced, many are difficult to applyin Asian markets due to a range <strong>of</strong> cultural andinstitutional factors.In Malaysia, the Bursa Malaysia’s CSR frameworkfor public listed companies seeks to highlightthat CSR is much more than philanthropy andcommunity initiatives, and should relate toinitiatives <strong>of</strong> business sustainability that supportstakeholder value creation.Against this background, the <strong>MBA</strong> in CSR <strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>Nottingham</strong> <strong>University</strong>Business School Malaysia is designed to meet the growing academicand business interest in CSR within Asia, and to contribute towardsthe quest for a ‘CSR identity’ in current Asian management paradigms.<strong>The</strong> programme is the first and only <strong>MBA</strong> in CSR <strong>of</strong>fered amongst UKuniversities, and demonstrates the Business School’s commitment toeducating future business leaders to take a broader ethical and societalperspective on business practices and finance.<strong>The</strong> <strong>MBA</strong> in <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Responsibility</strong> (CSR) combines advancedteaching and learning in management with thought leadership insustainability and corporate social responsibility. <strong>The</strong> course provides andexamines insights into general, financial and corporate management forindividuals seeking career advancement or diversification, with a focus onthe appreciation and understanding <strong>of</strong> responsible business practices.

You mayuse the Management Project to concentrate in-depth onan approved topic in the area <strong>of</strong> CSR. Your specialisationin CSR will be shown on your degree award.Course structureYou must complete a total <strong>of</strong> 12 taught modules and a Management Projecttotalling 180 credits. Each module is worth 10 credits and the ManagementProject is worth 60 credits. <strong>The</strong> <strong>MBA</strong> CSR programme <strong>of</strong>fers a flexiblemode <strong>of</strong> study that allows part-time students to take modules at their ownpace. Depending on the module, you may be assessed by examination,group or individual coursework, group or individual presentations, or acombination <strong>of</strong> assessment methods.Overseas studyIf you wish to study overseas you can take up to two approved modulesdelivered by our UK campus or our overseas partner institution in Singapore(subject to the availability <strong>of</strong> modules).ModulesCompulsory modules• Accounting and Finance• Business Economics• Entrepreneurship and Creativity• Marketing• Managing People• Operations Management• Strategic Management• Sustainable Decisions and OrganisationsElectivesCompulsory electives• Business Ethics• <strong>Corporate</strong> Governance and <strong>Social</strong> Accountability• Strategies for <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Responsibility</strong>Additional electivesYou must select one additional elective from the following:• Business and Commercial Law• <strong>Corporate</strong> Finance• Entrepreneurship in Practice• Financial and Monetary Economics• Games and Strategies for Business• Innovation Management• International Finance• Managing the Human ResourceManagement projectYou must undertake either a management project, or a group managementproject. <strong>The</strong> management project is an individual project <strong>of</strong> 15,000–20,000words on an approved subject relevant to CSR (weight 100%). <strong>The</strong> groupmanagement project (available to full-time students only) comprises a groupproject <strong>of</strong> 15,000 words on an approved subject relevant to CSR (weight60%) and an individual project <strong>of</strong> 5,000 words (weight 40%) reviewingconceptual issues relevant to the group management project.Entry and English language requirementsYou must have a relevant second class honours degree or a relevantpr<strong>of</strong>essional qualification deemed equivalent to a first degree with honoursand at least 3 or more years <strong>of</strong> full-time management or leadership workexperience, normally gained since graduating from the first degree.Applicants must have graduated from an approved university. Otherequivalent qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.You must have one <strong>of</strong> the following English language requirements: IELTS<strong>of</strong> 7.0 (no element below 6.0); TOEFL iBT <strong>of</strong> 100 (no element below 21)together with a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score <strong>of</strong> atleast 630 and an Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) score <strong>of</strong> at least 5.0;or a PTE (Academic) <strong>of</strong> 68 (minimum 55).Fees, course duration and intakesCourse fees are RM58,000 and the course duration is one year full-timeor two to four years part-time. We have a September intake for full-timestudents and a January and September intake for part-time students.Location, delivery mode and class hoursTeaching for full-time students is split between our main campus and KualaLumpur Teaching Centre (KLTC) and classes take place in the daytime orevening at different stages <strong>of</strong> the programme. Part-time students are taughtat KLTC in the evenings.Most modules are conducted in three-hour sessions per week over 11weeks. Certain modules are taught over seven-to-ten-day blocks totalling30 hours <strong>of</strong> teaching. Classes for each module will include case studies,group breakout sessions, and group presentations, depending on thesubject-matter.
