Keep me safe and healthy while I’m learning and growing.Your child’s overall physicaland emotional health areimportant to learning anddevelopment. When yourchild is healthy and physicallyfit, she has the energy to learnand play. Your child will developthe self-confidence she needsto learn and be successful inthe world when she knows thatshe is surrounded by loving, caring people.Make sure that I am buckled up correctlyin my car seat on every ride.Stay within reach whenever we are aroundwater, even if I have had swimming lessons.Keep furniture away from windows so thatI can’t climb up and fall out. Attach tallor heavy furniture, like dressers or TVcabinets, to the wall.Don’t let me play with anything that issmall enough to fit in a toilet paper tube.I could choke.I should not be near the stove, oven ormicrowave when food is being cooked. Puthot things out of my reach so I don’t grabthem and get burned.Put the number for the Washington PoisonCenter (1-800-222-1222) near the phone soyou can call it if I swallow something thatcan hurt me.Take me for regular well-child checkups. It’s best for me to see the same doctoror nurse so they get to know us. Talkwith them about how I’m learning andgrowing. At every visit to the doctor or nurse, ask if I need any immunizations.Brush my teeth after breakfast andbefore bed. Take me to the dentistat least once a year.Offer me a variety of healthy foodsand make sure I get to play and bephysically active every day.Until I am two, it’s best that I notwatch television, videos or play oncomputers. Once I turn two, my“screen time” should be limited to nomore than one to two hours per dayof educational shows or games.
