Burnme forever and I’ll writhe inpain for millions of years, but Iwon’t serve a mean and vengefulGod!’”Fresh out of the military andlooking for a career, Jay enrolledin a radio broadcasting schoolin Atlanta, Georgia. There hemet his first wife, and eventuallymoved to California where hehoped to make it big. But thecompetition was fierce, andJay found only a part-time jobin radio, forcing him to workat a factory to supplement hisincome.Looking for meaning in hislife, Jay was introduced to self-hypnosis and the occult by aneighbor, and began experiencing“past lives.”“By the time I left Los Angeles,I was eyebrow-deep into it,”he says.A job opened up in Ohio,and eventually one in Indiana,where his daughter, Jodi, wasborn. But sadly, his marriageended in divorce. He movedup from station to station andmarried again, only to have thisone end after five years. Thenwhile working in northeasternTennessee, Jay met and marriedhis third wife. Finally, it seemedlike happiness and success werecoming together as he reachedthe top of the ratings. Jay’s afternoon-driveshow made him thehighest rated radio personalityin the country, and helped hisstation win the highest ratings ofany radio station in the UnitedStates! But he wanted more.Jay moved to Memphis, thenCleveland, and finally to SanFrancisco. A broken man, he returnedto Washington to live with hismother as he sank into a deepdepression.Eventually Jay moved backto Tennessee to manage a radiostation, and while he was therehe hired a woman who told himshe would work any time otherthan from sundown Friday tosundown Saturday. Thinkingthis must be for religious reasons,Jay eventually asked herabout it.“Have you ever heard aboutSeventh-day Adventists?” sheasked.“Well, isn’t your Sunday Saturday?”he asked back.“No,” she explained, “the Sabbathis Saturday.”Not long afterward sheinvited Jay to attend church withher and Cari, her daughter.“I looked forward to meetingpastors of any religion,” Jay says.“Sooner or later they would saysomething I knew they couldn’tback up from the Bible, and Igot great pleasure out of pointingthat out!”But his first question toPastor John Riggs brought ananswer he didn’t expect. “Ishould have known I was introuble,” Jay comments. “Hewas doing exactly the samething to me that I had doneto the others! He would startreading from the beginning ofthe thought rather than just asentence or two of text. To everyquestion he would reply, ‘Let’sfind it in the Bible.’ ”Jay began taking Bible studiesfrom Amazing Facts. The firstone dealt with the afterlife, andsince he had been to séancesand experienced “former lives,”he put it aside, feeling like heknew all that. As he studied hecould easily see why they worshippedon the Sabbath, and ashe went through the other studyguides, he found each one to beperfectly in line with the Bible.Then he finally came to the lastone—which had been the firstone, dealing with the afterlife.Jay scoured the Bible fromone end to the other. “Underhypnosis I remembered threeof my ‘former lives,’ ” he says,“and my Bible said that couldn’thave happened. I realized thenthat the Bible was on trial. Iwould either have to accept itor reject it.”He understood clearly thatthe Bible taught that we areborn, we live, and we die. It wasalso clear that God had said thatwhen we die our breath goesback to Him, we are buried ina “death sleep,” and are eitherresurrected to go to heaven, orstay in the grave until we’re resurrectedto face eternal death.“If I chose the Bible, I’d berejecting everything I’d believedin for the past 20 years!” Jaysays. Then suddenly he wasoverwhelmed with belief thatthe Bible was right and hewas wrong. He went to PastorRiggs and said, “I’d like to bebaptized.”Pastor Riggs carefully askedhim numerous questions ona variety of biblical topics.Then, finally, he asked what Jaybelieved about the Sabbath.“Well,” he replied, “I wasrecently fired from my job justwhen I had decided to keep theSabbath.”“Then welcome!” PastorRiggs said, standing up with asmile and extending his hand.On fire for the Lord, Jaywanted to be a preacher.“When I was baptized, I wentunder the water ambitiousfor myself, and came out ofthe water ambitious for theLord,” he says. “I moved toWalla Walla, Washington, togo to school, but then therewas this woman, still in Tennessee.I found myself missingher more and more, and I wasonly a month and a half intoJay Christian, his wifeAnnette (R), and daughterCari (L) have facedmany difficulties in life,but have never been happier.The secret of theirjoy, and the source oftheir strength, lies intheir faith and the assuranceof God’s loving care.They are truly a blessingto all who meet them! 3ABN World February 2007 3ABN World February 2007

Annette Christian’s battlewith cancer left herphysically weak, butdetermined to serve herLord. She has co-hostedmany programs, literallyspeaking from a couch in3ABN Radio’s Studio A.Here she is working onthe program Women atthe Well.school when I realized thatI loved her!”That weekend he called herand asked her to marry him.“She said no, and it startled mebecause I knew she cared forme!” he admits. “I suddenlyrealized that I was alone, and Iwas going to be alone. I askedmyself, ‘Am I making the rightdecision, or is this the wrongplace for me?’ ”It took him only half a secondto realize that he was exactlywhere God wanted him. “Twodays later Annette called meback and asked if the offer stillheld!” Jay grins.He moved back to Tennesseeand they married, realizing thatGod was not calling him to be apreacher after all. A year later heapplied and got a job at KGTS,the Walla Walla College radiostation where he had workedas a student.After several years Jay becamethe manager of Blue MountainTelevision, a local 3ABN affiliatestation at that time. By thenhe had written a book calledFalling For a Lie and was invitedto come be interviewed for a3ABN TV program. During hisvisit he was offered a positionwith 3ABN Radio.“I didn’t feel called to be hereat the time,” he explains. “I washappy where I was, and knewthat my wife and daughter,Cari, were both happy in theirjobs, too.” But six months later,Annette expressed her desire towork in a ministry. Two weeksafter that, 3ABN called againto let Jay know that the job at3ABN Radio Network was stillopen, and as it turned out, Jay,Annette, and Cari were eachoffered a position. After muchprayer, they accepted, but noone was ready for what transpirednext.In June of 2000, whileworking in 3ABN’s MarketingDepartment, Annette was diagnosedwith breast cancer. As herhealth worsened, doctors eventuallydiagnosed bone and livercancer as well! But Annette’sfaith was strong, and the moreSatan tried to make her despair,the more she clung to her Biblepromises. Today, nearly sevenyears after her first diagnosis,Annette continues her battlewith cancer.“It’s been a real challengefor all of us,” Jay admits. “It’saffected Cari tremendously,because she’s extremely close toher mother; they’re almost liketwins. But this trial has givenme a chance to see someonewho is close to the Lord whofights, reads her Bible, talks toHim, writes articles and storiesand even does 3ABN televisionand radio programs when shecan muster the strength.”Yet this is not all he has hadto endure. Between November2004 and May 2006 Jay’s sister,mother, and father passedaway. He says one thing thathas helped him through thesedifficult times is his sense thatthe Lord had truly called hisfamily to 3ABN. Another is thathe sees how God provides forAnnette each day.From the early days of 3ABNRadio Network, Jay witnessedthe struggles and miracles.3ABN had no affiliates, butsoon the Lord started openingthe doors. First we got onthe Internet, then the FederalCommunications Commissionintroduced low power FM stations.Today 3ABN has over 80affiliates worldwide!When asked about his dreamsfor the network, he says, “Iwould love to have 3ABN Radioavailable to every person, everywhere.While our signal circlesthe globe, there are still largeareas of the world that can’t hearus. We pray that people stumbleacross us on the radio, satellite,or Internet, but we also pray forthe Lord to open up some newways to deliver our signal.“Ours is not always an easymessage, but God has commissionedus to give it. That’swhy I’m here. I’m not here toearn a lot, or to make a namefor myself. I’m here to help getan important message to theworld.”Today Jay’s voice rides theairwaves around the world.He walks with God, and trustsHim more each day. DevotionalThe Still, SmallVoice“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them,and they follow Me.” John 10:27 (NAS)by Kim SmithHearing and obeyingthe voice of God hasbeen my heart’s desireever since I was a young girl.But for me, the hearing hasThe light turned green, butas I moved my foot to thegas pedal, I heard, “Wait!”always been easier than theobeying. I’ve heard the voiceof God many times as I readthe Scriptures during my dailydevotions. Conviction of sin,instruction, and comfort arejust a few of the ways God’svoice speaks to me as I studyHis Word. And through Hismessengers, His voice becomeseven more distinct.I’ve been most amazedwhen I’ve heard God teachingme about His character andnature by using my own voice!Through motherhood, I’veheard His voice through thelove, joy, peace, and patienceHe’s given me for my childrenand grandchildren.But I still have trouble dis-tinguishing His “still, smallvoice” when I get that feelingthat I should say or do something.I’m not always sure if it’sjust me, or if it is God speaking,so this is where the obeyingcomes in. Recently, God’s“still, small voice” saved mylife. I’m a laid-back countrygirl—the kind that drives backroads only, in order to take mytime and enjoy the scenery. Iwas driving into town to domy shopping, and since I’m acreature of habit, I always takethe same route every week,crossing the main highwaywhere there is a traffic light, forsafety’s sake. As I approachedthe light, it was red, and I wasimpressed to turn right. “Nah,”I said out loud, “I’ll just go onacross.”The light turned green, butas I moved my foot to the gaspedal, I heard, “Wait!”I quickly put my foot onthe brake as a car came flyingthrough the intersection! I letout a sigh of relief and said,“Thank you, Jesus.”“God is to us a God of deliverances;and to God the Lordbelong escapes from death.”Psalm 68:20 (NAS).I put my foot on the gas,when suddenly I heard, “Wait!”“Lord,” I pray, “help me toobey Your ‘still, small voice.’No matter what.”again! In a second, anothercar came through the intersection,traveling even fasterthan the first! By now I was alittle rattled, to say the least.It was obvious to me that theimpression to turn right wasGod’s voice. However, I took itas being my own thought, anddid my own thing.God continues to presentme with opportunities to hearand obey His voice. Luayashe says. “My wish and prayerwas for a TV channel that wouldprovide me with informationthat could satisfy my thirst andfill that empty space inside myheart.”Then one day Eva found oneof her friends reading a Bible.As she looked at the passagesher friend was highlighting,she was intrigued. The more sheread, the more it began makingsense. It wasn’t long before shehad bought her own Bible andthey began having Bible studysessions together. Eva’s hungerfor more knowledge of theScriptures continued to growas she studied, and she beganbuying and borrowing otherreligious books anywhere shecould find them.But this was only the beginning.The Lord heard andanswered her prayer for a TVstation that would help herunderstand the Bible truths.What a wonderful day it waswhen she discovered a differentkind of TV channel on her cablesystem—one that seemed to fither needs.
