Step into the Dark

Barbican Cinemas, Silk Street and corner of Beech Street EC2Y 8DS
The Barbican’s new cinemas open with a series of films
exploring dystopia, the sublime and the surreal, from The
Graduate to Carrie. Names from the arts world, including Sam
Taylor Wood and Mike Leigh, have selected films they feel best
represent one of the seven sins.

Lord Mayor’s Show
10 November
Starts at Mansion House – follows route along Cheapside to
Fleet St, returning along Embankment
Huge public event which dates back to 1215 (the year of
Magna Carta) when King John gave the City a charter which
said the new Lord Mayor must swear an oath of allegiance to
the Sovereign and ‘show’ himself to the people. Make sure you
nab a spot at the front of the crowds to see this historic pageant
in action – now a combination of traditional pomp, including
the Lord Mayor in his gold coach, and bright modern floats.

Free entry to St Paul’s

St Paul’s Cathedral, St Paul’s Churchyard EC4M 8AD
To celebrate the annual Lord Mayor’s Show (see above), the
Cathedral opens its doors all day, for free, to all visitors (usually
£15 for adults).
