Welcometo<strong>Novita</strong>’s<strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service!The <strong>Novita</strong> Children’s <strong>Services</strong> <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service aimsto improve the abilities of <strong>Novita</strong> clients following majorinjury, illness or medical procedures which affect theirphysical function.The <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service is made up of three specialistprograms:• the Aquired Brain Injury Program, which specialisesin rehabilitation after an acquired brain injury (such as ahead injury or brain tumour)• the Acquired Disability Program, which focuses onrehabilitation after a major injury or illness (such as aspinal cord injury)• the Physical <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Program, which supportsrehabilitation after medical procedures (such as botoxor surgery).Staff from all three programs work closely with children,families, carers and other members of the communityto provide support, advice and solutions to the manychallenges they may face. The <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Serviceprovides both individual and group-based services andwhere necessary, liaises with <strong>Novita</strong>’s Equipment Serviceto ensure each child receives the most appropriateequipment for their needs.RS DL 08.indd 114/12/2007 3:36:46 PM


What does the <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service do?<strong>Rehabilitation</strong> is a specialist area of health care, so<strong>Novita</strong>’s <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service has been establishedto provide specialised, coordinated services that aretime-limited (to meet the need for an ‘intensive burst’),outcome-focused, evidence-based, culturally sensitiveand most importantly, based around the needs ofchildren, their families and the wider community.Who makes up the <strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service team?This multidisciplinary team is made up of familyservice coordinators, physiotherapists, occupationaltherapists, psychologists, speech pathologists,therapy assistants and medical rehabilitationspecialists, who work closely with staff from hospitalsand other service providers to ensure children andtheir families receive the best possible support.Where can I receive support?<strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service staff are based at <strong>Novita</strong>’sRegency Park Centre, however support is availableto <strong>Novita</strong> clients at a variety of locations – includingprivate homes, local pools, preschools, schools, childcare centres, any <strong>Novita</strong> office and a range of othercommunity locations.Further informationYou can obtain further information about <strong>Novita</strong>’s<strong>Rehabilitation</strong> Service by speaking to your <strong>Novita</strong>family service coordinators or therapists, or bycontacting the team directly at:<strong>Rehabilitation</strong> ServiceRegency Park Centre171 Days RoadRegency Park SA 5010T (08) 8243 8270E rehabilitation@novita.org.auRS DL 08.indd 214/12/2007 3:36:48 PM
