We, the family of the late Deacon Johnnie Lee Turner, wish to express<br />
our sincere gratitude for all acts of love, deeds and thoughtfulness<br />
and words of sympathy expressed, implied or demonstrated during<br />

Deacon Johnnie Lee Turner<br />
n March 1, 2012 the Lord called Deacon Johnnie Lee Turner,<br />
Sr. home to rest. He was born July 11, 1935 in Lee County,<br />
South Carolina to the late Cleve and Almeta Turner. He was<br />
the last survivor of five children.<br />
Known as “Frizz” by his friends, Johnnie was educated in the public<br />
schools of Lee County. He was united in holy matrimony to Lueaster<br />
(Patterson) Turner on August 3, 1957. This union blessed them with<br />
five children.<br />
Deacon Turner served in the United States Army, and received an<br />
honorable discharge upon the completion of his services. His love for<br />
fast cars and the open road led him to a career as a truck driver. He<br />
served as a driver for various companies, including Goodyear, from<br />
whom he retired after 18 years of service. He also drove for Builders<br />
Transport for 20 years. Upon his retirement, Deacon Turner served<br />
as a driver for Senior Resources until his health began to fail.<br />
Johnnie was a member of Second Nazareth Baptist Church, where he<br />
served faithfully and helped countless others. This loving husband,<br />
father, and grandfather ensured that all those close to him had as<br />
close a relationship to the Lord as he did. Johnnie served in the<br />
Deacons' Ministry, and also sang on the Musical and Male Choruses.<br />
He was often featured as a soloist, and his rendition of “Lily in the<br />
Valley” was requested on many occasions.<br />
Johnnie was preceded in death by two children: Joyce and Johnnie<br />
“Lee” Jr.; his brother, Willie; and three sisters: Alice Clyburn, Edna<br />
Thomas, and Geneva “Smokey” Turner.<br />
Those left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 55 years,<br />
Lueaster; three children: Jackie (Nate) Jeffcoat, Anthony, and Stacey,<br />
all of Columbia, South Carolina; one aunt: Almeta Robinson of<br />
Camden, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lila (Willie) Turner<br />
of Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren: Nathan, Tiffany,<br />
Tyesha (Greg) Thomas, Kelly, Lee “John-John” Jr., Lamar (Ophelia)<br />
Dunlap, Anquinette Allen, and Stacey Jr.; seven great-grandchildren,<br />
and hosts of other caring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who<br />
will miss him dearly.<br />
