Unlessstrongly cleared, slide-mounted specimens have a ‘salt and pepper’ cuticle from mineralinclusions.Also Known As: Hypochthoniella Berlese, 1910; Arthrochthonius Ewing, 1917Type species: Hypochthonius minutissimus Berlese, 1904World species: 6 species including three from North America: Eniochthonius minutissimus(Berlese, 1903), E. crosbyi (Ewing, 1909), E. mahunkai Nor<strong>to</strong>n & Behan-Pelletier, 2007Etymology – Enioch (?) + chthonius (of <strong>the</strong> soil)Comments: The three known North American species have been identifiable only since Nor<strong>to</strong>n &Behan-Pelletier (2007).32
