<strong>Street</strong> Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g In <strong>Hounslow</strong><strong>Street</strong> Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g In <strong>Hounslow</strong>Information from both direct observation and <strong>in</strong>terviews with bus<strong>in</strong>esses, residents and thosestreet <strong>dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g</strong> tell us that all parts of the borough have <strong>in</strong>cidence of street <strong>dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g</strong>. Acomprehensive table of areas affected is available as Appendix 1.Dur<strong>in</strong>g the project the outreach workers observed several forms of street <strong>dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g</strong> across theBorough.Typical <strong>Street</strong> Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g “Schools”This group is two or more dr<strong>in</strong>kers who are stationary and <strong>dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g</strong> together. The term schoolrefers to an <strong>in</strong>formal arrangement of pool<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ancial resources to ensure all <strong>in</strong>volved will beable to dr<strong>in</strong>k over a weekly period. As a street dr<strong>in</strong>ker described, “We take turns to buydepend<strong>in</strong>g on who’s got paid (claimed benefits) that day.”Groups of dr<strong>in</strong>kers were observed at least twice <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g locations:• <strong>Hounslow</strong> Bus Station/ London Road Bus Stops• Inwood Park• Avenue Park• Feltham Duck Ponds• Lampton Park• <strong>Hounslow</strong> Town Centre• Outside Job Centre• Beh<strong>in</strong>d Treaty Centre• Cranford Valley Park (Waye Avenue)• Bedfont Green• Brentford - St Paul’s Recreational GroundDur<strong>in</strong>g the research period Inwood Park was particularly quiet and <strong>Hounslow</strong> Bus Station andthe bus stops just beyond on the London Road the busiest <strong>dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g</strong> area.Young PeopleYoung People gather<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> parks consum<strong>in</strong>g alcohol dur<strong>in</strong>g the summer was commonplace, andcannabis smok<strong>in</strong>g was also observed. Most of this activity occurred dur<strong>in</strong>g the even<strong>in</strong>gs withless <strong>in</strong>cidences dur<strong>in</strong>g the day. Broken glass left beh<strong>in</strong>d was problematic for young familiesus<strong>in</strong>g the parks dur<strong>in</strong>g the days. The evidence of glass suggested the consumption of bothAlcopops and spirits.
