2008-09 defender men ProfilesGreg Van SoelenMen's head coachGreg Van Soelen has been the head men’sbasketball coach since 1995 while accumulatinga record of 213-157. He coached <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong>to its second ever national tournament in men’sbasketball in 2005-2006 with a 22-10 overallrecord. He was a standout player at <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong>from 1984-1988, earning NAIA All-American status while settingnumerous offensive records, many of which still stand. Van Soelenplayed professionally overseas and in the CBA before returningto <strong>Dordt</strong> and is a member of the Iowa <strong>Basketball</strong> Players Hall ofFame. Greg is also a <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> admissions counselor.Michael Eekhoffjunior; ankeny, iowaEarned GPAC second team honors in 2007-2008while leading the Defenders in assists with 3.1 pergame and scored 12.5 points with 3.9 reboundswhile getting a team high 45 steals. Made nearly 40percent of his three-point attempts and fifty percentof his shots from the floor. Had a career high25 points in a double overtime loss in February 2008 to Morningside.Had six steals in a game twice in 2007-2008, against Morningside andSouth Dakota Tech. Dished out a season high eight assists againstMidland Lutheran on January 26, 2008. Appeared in 13 games as afreshman and averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.Kevin Fopmafreshman; sioux center, iowaThree year regular at Western Christian High School,Fopma helped the Wolfpack to a pair of state titlesin Class 2A basketball in 2007 and 2008. Fopmamade 53-139 three-pointers during his senior seasonand averaged 8.5 points per game. Was an 87.9 percentfree throw shooter as a senior. Averaged 8.1points per game as a junior while making 56-158 shots from behindthe three-point line .Brett Heidemajunior; manhattan, montanaAppeared in 14 <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> junior varsity games inthe 2007-2008 season. Averaged 8.2 points and 6.8rebounds per game.Dustin Katjefreshman; orange city, iowaEarned all-War Eagle Conference honors in 2008after averaging 11 points per game for the UnityKnights. Grabbed 3.4 rebounds and had 1.48 stealsper game while dishing out 4.6 assists per contest.Made 46.4 percent of his shots from the floor andwas 46-119 on three-pointers during his seniorseason.Logan Kingmajunior; hawarden, iowaFollowed up a GPAC Freshman of the Year campaignwith a strong sophomore season where heaveraged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per gamewhile converting 43 percent of his shots from thefloor. Scored 20 or more points four times with aseason high 30 against Bellevue on November 24,2007. Had a season high 13 rebounds against Bellevue as well anddished out seven assists against South Dakota Tech on December 29,2007. Was named to the all-GPAC second team at the conclusionof the 2007-2008 season. Started 29 of 33 games in 2006-2007 andaveraged 10 points and 4.6 rebounds while leading the team with 27blocked shots.Carlie Landegentjunior; alvord, iowaWas limited in 2007-2008 due to nagging injuries.Played in seven games and averaged 1.4 points with2.0 rebounds per game. Scored a season high sixpoints in a win over Grace <strong>College</strong> on November 13,2007 and grabbed eight rebounds in a November 10,2007 win over York <strong>College</strong>. Played in 27 games as afreshman in 2006-2007 and averaged 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds andblocked 10 shots.Eric Miedemasenior; orange city, iowaAppeared in seven games in 2007-2008, averaging apoint a game. Played in 19 games for the Defendersin 2006-2007 when he averaged just over a pointand an assist per game and had 12 steals.Brandon Oldenkampsophomore; sanborn, iowaShot .512 from the field as a freshman, leading the2007-2008 junior varsity team with an average of18.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Appeared in14 games.Mark Rowenhorstsenior; orange city, iowaPlayed in all 29 games for <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> in 2007-2008, averaging 19 minutes per game with a 5.2point and 2.6 rebound average. Scored in doublefigures five times and made three-three point shotsin a January 30, 2008 win over Northwestern.Grabbed a season high six rebounds three times lastseason and had five assists against Dakota Wesleyan on January 16,2008. Played guard for <strong>Dordt</strong> in 30 games in 2006-2007 and dishedout 44 assists and 22 steals and averaged 5.4 points and 2.3 reboundsper game. Made 46 percent of his shots from the field and shot 37percent from behind the three-point line. Scored a career high 27points against Morningside on January 24, 2007. Appeared in 32games as a freshman and averaged 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds.
