Chester, Va , where it was discovered <strong>and</strong> bought by Mr.<br />

Hollo way.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Altoona boys, the Pennsylvania Railroad's firemen <strong>at</strong><br />

Altoona, Pa., had the largest number of active men in line, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>at</strong>tracted a gre<strong>at</strong> deal of <strong>at</strong>tention <strong>and</strong> no small amount of<br />

applause by their fancy marching.<br />

<strong>The</strong> C<strong>at</strong>skill (X.Y.) boys were the dudes of the procession,<br />

<strong>and</strong> were remarkable for their uniformity of dress, their h<strong>and</strong>some<br />

appearance <strong>and</strong> their excellent marching. <strong>The</strong>y were<br />

dressed in laultlessly fitting uniforms of fawn-colored cloth,<br />

<strong>and</strong> each man wore fawn-colored kid gloves <strong>and</strong> le<strong>at</strong>her lielmets<br />

ot the same hue. <strong>The</strong>y had with them their pretty huse<br />

carriage.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chambers Company, of <strong>Port</strong>smouth, Va., with their fine<br />

b<strong>and</strong>, received an ov<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

<strong>The</strong> other companies th<strong>at</strong> took part in the parade were the<br />

Chemical Engine Company, No. ], Manchester, Md.; W<strong>at</strong>erwitch<br />

Hose Company, No. 1, <strong>Port</strong> Deposit. Md.; Independent<br />

Fire Companj', Annapolis, Md.; Reilly Hose Company, No. 1,<br />

Harrisburg, Pa.; Vigilant Fire Company, No. 1. York, Pa.;<br />

Phoenix Hose Company, Poughkeepsie, N. Y.; Active Associ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

of Volunteer Firemen's Associ<strong>at</strong>ion, Philadelphia Pa.;<br />

Fame Hose Company, No. 1, Wilmington, Del.; Independent<br />

Fire Company. <strong>Port</strong>smouth Va.; Bristol Fire Company, Bristol,<br />

Pa.; Frostburg Fire Company, Frostburg Md.; Fort Hamilton<br />

Fire Company, Fort Hamilton, N. Y.; Moyamensing<br />

Hook <strong>and</strong> Ladder Company, Chester, Pa.; Independent Fire<br />

Company, of Frederick,. Md; American Hose <strong>and</strong> Hook <strong>and</strong><br />

Ladder Company, Pennsylvania ; Good Intent Fire Company,<br />

Pottsville, Pa.; <strong>The</strong> Good-Will Hook <strong>and</strong> Ladder Company, of<br />

Atlantic City, N. J. <strong>The</strong> majority of these brought their own<br />

bauds with them, <strong>and</strong> the second division was probably the<br />

most musical in line.<br />

THIRD DIVISION.<br />

Samuel W. Regester, Marshal.<br />

<strong>The</strong> third division was composed of officers of the modern<br />

city tire department, members of engine <strong>and</strong> truck companies,<br />

with appar<strong>at</strong>us <strong>and</strong> flo<strong>at</strong>s carrying chemical engine. <strong>The</strong> gallant<br />

firemen received their share of applause from the specta-<br />

tors, <strong>and</strong> deserved it all. <strong>The</strong> bearing of the men was free,<br />

steady, impressive. AVright's Baud of 25 pieces preceded the<br />

division. <strong>The</strong> marshal of this division was one of Baltimore's<br />

Fire Commissioners.<br />

FOURTH DIVISION.<br />

Gen. Thomas J. Shryock, Marshal.<br />

A gay t<strong>at</strong>too was be<strong>at</strong>en upon the stones by the hoofs of the<br />

prancing horses as Gen. Thos. J. Shryock <strong>and</strong> his staff of seventy-six<br />

aids marched <strong>at</strong> the head of the fourth division. Gen.
