A Man & InkBarley FilmsA Man & Ink, have a studio overlookingGalway Bay in the west of Ireland. Theyhave worked on numerous projects overthe past 8 years, on a slate including theIFB-funded short animation Scarecrow,the TV series The Variety Show, whichwas broadcast on RTÉ in 2009, designand animation on the Oscar-nominatedfeature The Secret of Kells (CartoonSaloon). In 2010 they co-produced the30 minute short film Miss Remarkableand her Career, with Lisbet GabrielssonAB (Sweden) & Bullitt Films (Denmark)which won the prestigious FipresciAward at the 34th Annecy AnimationFestival. Also that year production ofanimation began on 20 x 14 min tvseries, Ish’hafan, set and broadcast inthe UAE. Since the beginning of 2011,work has commenced on a new seriesJoe & Jack, a 39 x 7 min pre-schoolseries to be broadcast in 2012.Barley Films was founded in 2002 to produceoriginal animated films in Ireland. The studiohas produced nine short films which havescreened at over 300 festivals in 39 countriesincluding the award-winning AgriculturalReport, Donkey, Pirogues and The Rooster, TheCrocodile And The Night Sky.Their tenth anniversary this year heralds inthe commencement of production on their firstanimated feature – Little Caribou. The film waspresented at Cartoon Movie in 2011 and willbe completed in hand drawn animation fordelivery in 2013. This Arctic adventure exploresa tense sibling rivalry as a young brother andsister discover more than they bargained forwhen they enter a strange new iceberg.Projects in DevelopmentTwo shorts are being developed at the studio forproduction in 2012-2013, the Irish language film noirGan Caoirigh, Gan Chodladh (No Sheep, No Sleep)and Simon Riley’s charming tale One for the Road.Development continues on their second feature lengthfilm Seven Santas where a boy tries to track downSanta Claus on Christmas Eve to make a last minutealteration to his present.Other projects currently in development and preproductioninclude an animated version of SydneyPadua’s (Agricultural Report) web-comic TheAdventures of Lovelace and Babbage (www.2DGoggles.com) and a stop-motion TV Halloween Special beingcreated by award-winning filmmaker David Quin(www.cutbacks.ie) for delivery in late 2012.Projects in DevelopmentThis year will also see them bring newprojects to the market, including theirown 30 min tv special The Overcoatas well as several projects at variousstages of development.
