MAIN OBJECTIVES1. to evaluate the level of population’s knowledge onthe first measures to be taken post-earthquake2. to exchange information and share experiencebetween MS experts regarding the best practicesand recommendations on self-protection andmutual assistance between civilians, as well asbetween civilians and rescue teams3. to set up a concise set of basic rules to be followedby the population in case of earthquake until thearrival of professional intervention teams<strong>SAFE</strong> <strong>QUAKE</strong> KICK-OFF MEETING,BRUSSELS, January 11th 2010 5

Main project activities: POPULATION AND RESCUE TEAMS SURVEY in orderto:‣ evaluate the level of population’s knowledge onthe first measures to be taken post-earthquake‣ identify the rescue teams expectations about thepossible support to be granted by the populationwhile performing the intervention‣ identify the characteristics and needs of eachtarget group on a suitable behaviour in case of anearthquake‣ finding gaps and establishing areas to beaddressed<strong>SAFE</strong> <strong>QUAKE</strong> KICK-OFF MEETING,BRUSSELS, January 11th 2010 7


DEVELOPMENT OF A SET OF BASIC RULES‣ a set of basic rules to be followed by the populationin case of earthquake until the arrival ofprofessional intervention teams‣ implementing best practices and recommendationson self–protection and mutual assistance betweencivilians, as well as between civilians and rescueteams<strong>SAFE</strong> <strong>QUAKE</strong> KICK-OFF MEETING,BRUSSELS, January 11th 2010 8


AWARENESS RAISING CAMPAIGN FOR GENERALPUBLIC AND EACH TARGET GROUP in order to:‣ increase the public awareness on the set ofbehavior rules, especially focusing on the targetgroups‣ prepare the population for an appropriate reaction incase of earthquake in urban areas with high seismicrisk‣ promote civilian participation to the disasterresponse efforts performed by emergency servicesand authorities<strong>SAFE</strong> <strong>QUAKE</strong> KICK-OFF MEETING,BRUSSELS, January 11th 2010 9
