Choose your senior subjectswith future study and career choices in mindwhile keeping your options open.Prerequisite subjectsTo gain entry into a UQ program, you need to havecompleted the necessary prerequisite subjects. Thesesubjects will vary depending on the program. Informationon prerequisite subjects for each UQ program is detailed inthis guide. Prerequisite subjects are achieved once you havecompleted 4 semesters with a Sound Achievement in a seniorsubject.Bonus Rank SchemeThis scheme may enable you to improve your competitivenessfor admission to your preferred program. Students mayreceive up to 5 bonus points towards their entry rank on thefollowing basis:Two points for passing an approved Language Other ThanEnglish (LOTE) subjectTwo points for passing Mathematics C or comparableinterstate subject (International Baccalaureate – MathematicsHL – min grade 3).One point for successfully completing a standarduniversity-level course such as UQ’s Enhanced StudiesProgram during Years 11 or 12.Meeting the OP requirementWhat is an Overall Position (OP)?For entry into most undergraduate degrees at UQ, you need tohave completed Year 12 and have gained an OP or equivalent.An OP refers your average performance across the subjectstaken for the Queensland Certificate of Education. There are25 OP bands (OP1 – OP25), with OP1 being the highest.To receive an OP, you need to complete a certain numberof Queensland Studies Authority subjects and satisfy otherrequirements such as sitting a Queensland Core Skills Test.What if you don’t receive the OP you need?If you miss out on the OP you need to gain entry into yourpreferred program, don’t panic. You may be able to upgradeafter one year of successful full-time tertiary study by:enrolling in another program for the first year. Once youhave completed this, your OP will be disregarded and yourentry rank will be calculated on the basis of your tertiarystudies onlyyou can then reapply for entry to your preferred programChoosing a program at UQThis guide will give you a good indication of the range ofsingle degree programs available at UQ.As an alternative, many students opt to study two degreesat the same time.
