Nov. 1 Away State Finals/Resch Center TBDThe Lady Thunder volleyball squad will look toreplace a talented group of seniors who graduatedas they look to compete in the Bay Conference.“We will surprise people,” said Head CoachLaura Trautmann, who is in her fifth season.“We lost a talented senior group last year, butreturn five starters who have improved theirgame from the previous year.Those fab five are seniors Megan Nagel, QuinnVan De Hei and Allison VonBrevern, along withsophomores Kristina Herman and Brianna Ver-Voort.Nagel and Herman are outside hitters withvonBrevern in the middle. THUNDER FOOTBALLLosing 10 letter winners doesn’t deter the Seymour Thunder football squad, but getting off to a quick start is a must for the team’s success.“A quick start is a must for us to be in the conference title race,” said Thunder Head Coach Matt Molle, who is in his 8th season.Molle will turn to his returning players to get that start.“If our seniors can lead us to improve during those crucial early weeks of the season, we should be able to be a solid football team,” he said.Offensively, a new quarterback will lead the team as Dakota Oskey will be taking the snaps.Molle said his team will need to throw the ball effectively early on to complement their wing-T running game.Heading up the running game is last year’s Bay Conference leading rusher, Bret Rottier.“Our backfield should be a strength as we return Rottier, Cody Plaster and Colton Schenk,” Molle said. “Dylan Beyer, Ryan Krahn, and Clayton Skogman shouldadd depth to this group.”Up front, Erik Schaumberg, Andy Helein, Colton VerVoort, and Brandon Bloedorn are players who played a lot last year and should provide the team with a goodstart. Look for Houston Hermann, Jon Dietzen, Brandon Berg, Phil Michaelson, and Luke Elsner to provide more depth along the line in key positions as well.Eddie Blackbull, Casey Jefson, and Sandy Cohen should also provide Seymour with outside threats at the wide out position.Defensively, Molle said the team improved as a group last year as the season went on and will look to pick up where they left off.Cody Keleske, Colton VerVoort, and Cody Plaster (all linebackers) should give the Thunder a good start on the defensive side.Luke Elsner, Andy Helein and others should provide a good start for them on the defensive line.Molle said his squad should have good depth along the defensive line as well and will need to step up to provide a stiff backbone for our base-50 defense.In the defensive backfield, Dakota Oskey and Keenan Moehring return.
