Daniel takes a stand...“Better to obey God than man”On the 21st June, 2005, Judge Michael Higgins ordered Pastors; Daniel Nalliah & Daniel Scotto apologise for “vilifying Muslims.” The Judge also ordered the two pastors to print anapology on their website and newsletter and pay for four advertisements each in The Ageand Herald Sun, using words ordered by the tribunal, and not to repeat the vilification.Courageously, the pastors, taking their lead from the words of the Apostle Peter in the Bible,“We must obey God rather than men”, have taken their stand and will not back down. The “Vilification” complaint was first made to VCAT by the Islamic Council of Victoria. The pastors have said they would rather go to gaol than compromise the truth andthat Victoria’s religious vilification law is Muslim law”.The Legislation, the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act, was passed by the VictorianLabor government, taking effect in Victoria at the start of 2002. Similar Legislation existsin Queensland and Tasmania and has been proposed in the NSW parliament by MLC,Peter Breen, titled, “Religious Tolerance Bill”. Former Premier Bob Carr announced afew weeks prior to his resignation that the NSW ALP would not support it. Whether thenew Premier Morris Iemma will, remains to be seen. The irony is that the pastors are being punished for accurately quoting the Qur’an andHadiths, Islam’s own texts - some of the comments the judge said “vilified Muslims”were direct quotes from Islamic books. This legislation is a form of terrorism against free speech in Australia. This is not just anattack against the free speech of the pastors, but of all Christians and all Australians.Muslims insist that it is against Islamic law for anyone other than a Muslim to teach theQur’an, or to explain what the Qur’an says. But Australia is not Saudi Australia, or is it...?(The following article is based on a transcript from an address given by Daniel Scot, April, 2005)DANIEL SCOT DOES A LOT OFtravelling, both nationally andinternationally, not for recreationalreasons - his ministry requires it. “My wife,Mariat Scot and I travel a lot aroundAustralia as well as internationally. We teachnot only in Australia, but also in America, inEurope, in Asia and in Africa. We have hadthe privilege of training thousands, includinginternational leaders. I have been invited totrain missionaries in America who go towork among Muslim people. I run a oneweekintensive course on how to evangelizeMuslims and how to broaden Christians’understanding of Islam, so we do a fair bitof teaching.”Daniel is a top mathematician. He has taughtMathematics in various universities for overtwenty years and was well paid. But he feltthe need to leave his profession and serveGod full time. “We felt that this is the needat this time, Islam is growing, and peopleneed to be aware of it. Many people don’tknow what Islam is all about, they don’tunderstand it. Most Bible colleges don’t havea clue what Islam is about. Most of themjust have the Lion’s Handbook, and on theway to the lecture room they prepare theirlecture on Islam, give five lectures, andthat’s it. That’s why our academic peopleare very ill-informed about Islam, and aredefeated on the mission field. That’s why Ileft teaching Mathematics because I saw aneed to fill the gap.”When Daniel mentioned his call to hisfriends, they said to him, “Daniel, Don’t befool, just keep teaching Mathematics.Nobody will financially help you with sucha ministry.”Daniel replied, “OK, but God will take careof that because He has called us.”Daniel’s teaching is not popular with Muslimpeople as he explains, “Islam is a wonderfulreligion but only if you don’t understandwhat it’s all about. Once you understand it,then the wonder is lost; and Muslims knowthat, and that is why they want to stopanybody who understands Islam fromexplaining Islam.”And stop Daniel is just what Muslims havebeen working hard to do. In March 2002,Pastor Daniel Naliah was invited to teach aone-day seminar in a church in Melbourne,in the state of Victoria, Australia. It was afairly sizeable gathering, about three hundredpeople from several churches and differentdenominations attended. Church leaders andpeople who were interested to learn aboutIslam came. Daniel explains, “I was askedto teach about Jihad, that’s the Holy War,according to the Qur’an and Haddith and4 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005Daniel Scot - A proud dad ANDGRANDFATHER for the first time“This is a really great time of rejoicing for our family. We have got our first grandchild. She is a wonderfulgirl, and we really thank God for Katriel - that Godhas blessed us with her. We really are very thankfulto the Lord for our children, and then God gave ourdaughter a wonderful husband, Michael, and youknow that they are really a couple who love the Lord, and want to work for His glory. We are thankful thatall of our five children desire to glorify God in theirlife and through their lives- that is the greatest blessingwhich anybody can hope for.”- Daniel Scot

Life of Mohammed, and about Islamicculture, how Muslim people treat non-Muslims under Islamic Law. I was alsoasked how to share the Gospel withMuslims and how to answer their questions. These were the topics which I was askedto teach. Pastor Danny Naliah was notthere, but one of his “crimes” was that hehad invited me to speak at the meeting heldat his church. The Islamic Council ofVictoria sent three white Australians whohad become Muslims to attend my seminar. They came with the aim (that wasdiscovered later) to find something thatwould be helpful for them to file a case. One lady who pushed them was employedby the Equal Opportunity Commission. Hername is May Halou, she is a member of theIslamic Council of Victoria, as well as beingemployed with the Equal OpportunityCommission of Victoria. She was the onewho sent them. She forced them to come.So they attended the seminar and left laterwith some material they had collected there. They contacted us claiming that Islam hadbeen vilified and that Muslim people hadbeen vilified. They demanded that PastorDanny and myself, apologise and promisethat we would never teach this again.”Daniel replied, “I am happy to apologise. Please tell me where I am wrong. If youtell me that I am wrong here, I will apologiseand I will never teach that again. They couldThe Lakemba mosque, 15 kmwest from the Sydney CBDLakemba’s main street. Lakemba has one of Australia’shighest concentrations of Islamic people.not come up with anything where they couldsay this is wrong.”Then Daniel said, “So, you are telling methat I should apologise, because I wasreading your Qur’an, and your Haddith, andyour other books. That’s not a fair demand, because anybody has a right to read anybook. It’s a public access book, so thematerial is available in many book stores.People have the right to read it. That’s not afair demand. That’s intellectual terrorism.”“I hope you will stop it,” Daniel added.“The Muslims didn’t like my response, sothey took me to court. It was initiallysupposed to last for only three days, but ittook thirty six days in the court. I was inthe witness box for five days. Strangelyenough, the Council, the Muslim people, hada large legal team. They had one QC, onesenior Counsel, and one junior Counsel, sothey had three counsels and four solicitorsworking for them. All up they had a teamof seven legal minds working for them. Onour side, we didn’t have a lot of money, sowe could not afford a large legal team. Weonly had one barrister and one solicitorworking for us. The solicitor and his firmworked pro bono, but they had to pay for abarrister, who cost over two hundredthousand dollars. When the case started, I didn’t have a lotof money. The importance of our teachingministry is not understood by most people,“Daniel Piper is a director of a Committee... - which gives advice to the President,George Bush. He was in Melbourne lateMarch 2005, where he said, “The Racialand Religious Vilification Law in Victoria,is Islamic Law by stealth. You don’t knowwhat you are doing, but Muslims know thatit is very helpful to Islam.”and many churches don’t even understandwhat we are doing. So we didn’t have a lotof financial support. When we started, weactually had zero financial help, so peoplesaid, “Daniel, don’t be fool.”Daniel’s case is not the first time Muslimshave tried to stop Islam being explained. They have been censoring the teaching ofIslam for the last fourteen hundred years.Daniel explains, “When Mohammed died, his father-in-law became the Caliph (thatmeans successor of Mohammed). He diedafter two years and his successor was UmraBen-Hatab. When he became the Caliph, hemade a law that no non-Muslim (at that timeit was Jews and Christians) was allowed toexplain Islam to even their children. It waspunishable by death.”“If you read the Qur’an, and you explain itto your children, you can be killed. You areviolating Jihad conditions, it’s called dimapact. That means if you have broken thepact, you are open to Jihad. This givesMuslims free course to come and loot you,to take your wife and children, and so on,they can even kill you. This is serious. Thatis one of the articles of Islam that has beenthere for the last fourteen hundred years.”Daniel explained the Dima pact and Jihadto the Judge in the Victorian court roomduring the five days he was in the witnessbox. He said to the judge, “Your Honour, this is not a new thing which Muslims areapplying in Australia. They have beenapplying it for fourteen hundred years. Thatis the defence of Islam- if you don’t knowwhat it is, it seems to be a good religion. The moment you explain it, they areterrified, they are “vilified” in the currentterminology of the vilification law”When this case started, Daniel and Mariathad just three hundred dollars in theiraccount, with a two hundred and ninetyfourdollar telephone bill. Daniel said, “Thatleft me with six dollars in my pocket. Sothat was not a big account to hire a sound, large legal team. But we believe that asChristians we need to trust God more, andit’s not just a theory. It should be put intopractise, and we see God’s power whenwe trust Him. But when we trust thecircumstances, then we shut God out, andwe say, “Oh God, I don’t need you.Because the circumstances are toodangerous to trust you! If it is not toodangerous, then I can trust you. But nowthat it is very dangerous, I cannot trust you.”That is simply what we are saying whenwe consider circumstances to be moreimportant than what the Word of God says.(Continued next page)GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005 5

But we took that step of faith, and as mostof you know, lost the case in the VictorianCivil and Administrative Tribunal. The judgefound us guilty of vilifying Muslim people. The truth is no defence under this Law ofVilification. So, if you are telling the truthabout anything, you are still guilty if peoplefeel vilified. One of the areas that theMuslims found that I had vilified them(which one lady gave a statement about inthe initial report) was that I had vilifiedMuslims by saying that Mohammed had noassurance of salvation. She said this vilifiedIslam. This was the same reason I wasaccused of vilifying Muslim people back inPakistan, and that is why I left Pakistan. InPakistan, I was sharing the Gospel withMuslim people, which was forbiddenaccording to Islamic Law. You are notallowed to share the Gospel with Muslimpeople. It’s unlawful. Why? Because Allahsays in the Qur’an. Surah 2:216-218 (Surahmeans chapter of the Qur’an) says thatturning Muslims away from their faith isworse than murder, so that’s how seriousthe crime is. According to Islam, if you sharethe Gospel with Muslims, if you turnMuslims away from their faith, you havecommitted a crime greater than killing aperson, and that’s why it is stronglyforbidden. None of the Islamic nations willallow anyone to convert Muslims - none.”“Even in a very liberal country, like Turkey,it remains illegal to convert a Muslim toChristianity. It is strictly forbidden. But asChristians we have a greater command andprivilege, and that’s the command andprivilege to share the Gospel with people. That is the privilege and responsibility ofevery Christian, whatever your age andwhatever your job and wherever you live.”Early this year, Daniel and his wife, Mariatwere busy teaching in Australia, when theyunexpectedly received a request to visitEngland. The Australian vilification caseinvolving the two pastors had by nowbecome an international case in thatinternational media had been focusing on it.Daniel explained, “Members of the BritishParliament had heard that two pastors inAustralia, Pastor Danny Naliah and myselfwere involved in a legal case lasting overthree years. The British Government wasplanning to introduce a law called the “Racialand Religious Hatred Law” It’s a law similar, but even worse than the law we have inQueensland, Victoria and Tasmania. InVictoria it is called the Racial and ReligiousVilification Law. In England, they wereterming it as a racial and religious hate crime. The “hate crime” is much worse than thelaw we have. In England the law’s proposedpunishment was seven years jail maximumif somebody was found guilty of causinghatred of Muslim people, or any otherperson. When this bill was proposed in theHouse of Commons, the Government hada majority, so they succeeded. Next it wasto be proposed in the House of Lords.6 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005People were very concerned about it. I wasinvited to speak about it. We had fourmeetings with members of the BritishParliament; two meetings with members ofthe House of Commons and two meetingswith members of the House of Lords. Inaddition I was on three TV programs and Iwas also interviewed on several radioprograms.”“We have a Board called Abraham MinistriesInternational. Our committee in Brisbanewas not very happy that my wife and Iwanted to accept the invitation to go toEngland, as I was already scheduled to teachin Singapore and Hong Kong in March justone month later. This was a very intensivecourse - six lectures a day for ten days, and I had only just come back from HongKong from a ten day stay, where I hadtaught sixty lectures. It was quite intensive, and the committee was aware that I neededto work really hard. I was also requested tosummarise my lecture notes so they couldtranslate them into Chinese, to be easier forthe students whose English was not sogood. So we were busy doing all thosethings, but when this request came I toldmy Board that it was very important that Ishould go to Britain to help them rescindthis bill. I told them if this bill is passed inEngland, it will make it so much easier forthe spread of Islam. One of the aimsMuslims have is to control our Institutes. They invest a lot of money in universities, and then they dictate what research shouldbe done in the universities concerning Islam. For example, a woman I know, whosedaughter was studying for a post-graduatedegree at Oxford University, submitted herwork on women in Islam, but hersupervisor would not accept it. He said,“No, no, I don’t want such research.” Soif you do Honours with fair research onIslam, universities like Oxford don’t acceptit. They don’t want to know the truth aboutthe nature of Islam. There was one ladyfrom Queensland who went from Australiafor extra study in England, and she proposeda thesis on violence against women in Islam. Her supervisor said, “No, we don’t allowsuch research.” So this is where ourinstitutes are at. And that’s not only inEngland. Even in Queensland, my son wasinterested in doing a PhD on Islam, and heproposed a thesis for a comparative studyof the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the teachings of Mohammed, and hissupervisor said, “No, no, we don’t allowsuch research.” And why is this? It isbecause Muslims have paid ten million

dollars to Queensland University. A Musliminvestor has bought it, so they would notallow any study or teaching that reveals thetrue nature of Islam. If they did, it wouldmake him very upset. So this is somethingwe need to be aware of.”“These vilification laws will also block any trueteaching about the nature of Islam. That iswhy Muslim people want these laws enforced.”“They want to pass the same laws inEngland, and we really thank God that ourlittle contribution helped them to halt thepassing of that bill. When the bill wasfought in the House of Lords, those peoplewho attended my seminar stronglyopposed it, and the bill didn’t get through. The Government had to relinquish it atthat stage.”Daniel was born and raised in Pakistan. Hewas employed as a full-time lecturer inMathematics. He taught embassy classes, the senior classes.“Though I was paid to teach Mathematics,I did not miss any opportunities to sharethe Gospel. Yes in the class room I taughtMathematics, but when people came to seeme, I developed a friendship with them, andshared the Gospel with them. It’s not easyin Pakistan. Many times people are beaten, sometimes people are even killed. Muslimstried a few times to kill me. The first timethey tried to kill me was when I was astudent at high school. It’s quite common. You think it’s hard to share the Gospel herein Australia; you say people don’t take anyinterest, they ignore you and maybe theymake fun of you and ‘persecute you’ bylooking at you funny or in an unfriendlyway. You think that’s persecution andintimidation. I just have to laugh at that. Youdon’t know what persecution is. We needto be more bold. We should take everyopportunity to share the Gospel.”“Over a period of time, I have prepared acomparative study of the Bible and theQur’an. When you have superficialknowledge of the Bible, and superficialknowledge of the Qur’an, the two are verysimilar, especially if you are not a Christian.”“I thank God, by God’s grace I was broughtup in a very good family where there was avery strong emphasis on learning Scripture, and not only learning Scripture, but obeyingand living by the Scriptures. My parentshelped me to learn chapter after chapter byheart, memorising the Old Testament andthe New Testament. By the time I was ingrade 2, nine years old, I could recite manychapters of the Old and New Testaments.Often my Mum helped me to learn timetables, and so I was able to recite16x16=256. That was in grade 2. Shehelped me become a mathematician. Onerubbish. And then we say, “Oh, I don’tknow how that happened. I brought themup well, and now they’ve drifted awayfrom the Lord.”“Because the Word of God had gone intomy heart, it manifested itself when I was inGrade 9. I began systematically sharing theGospel with people, and I have been doingthat, by God’s grace, ever since.”Daniel explained that in 1986, while he wasliving in Pakistan, the governmentintroduced a blasphemy law called 295c.This annulled the previous law 295b wherethe punishment for blasphemy was a fiveyear jail sentence. The punishment the newlaw required for blasphemy was the deathsentence. Death for blasphemy againstMohammed or the Qur’an or the Muslimpeople. “The Muslims then realised thatbecause that law was passed, they couldnow silence me.” Said Daniel.Daniel was the first person to be chargedwith blasphemy in Pakistan under Law295c. He was given an option by the seniorprofessors in the college council, who toldhim, “We are happy with your teaching ofmathematics, but we are not happy withyour evangelistic zeal. We thankGod that we have practisedthis in our own family withall our five children, andbecause they have been filledwith the word of God, they are spreadingthe word of God. If we would have filledour children with rubbish, then rubbishwould have come out. And that’s whathappens with many children. If we don’twatch what they are watching, what theyare reading, they will fill their brains withonly way that we can help you is that youbecome a Muslim.”Daniel had to decide between becoming aMuslim or being put to death.“What do you do? On one hand I washearing threats by people that I should beput to death; on the other, I was given theoption that I could become a Muslim, andthen save my life.”One professor said, “This is the goldenopportunity for you now to save your life. You can become a Muslim!”“But I said in my heart; this is a goldenopportunity for me to share the Gospel withfive senior professors, all sitting there at thesame table!”So Daniel asked them, “If I become a(Continued page 8)GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005 7

(Continued from page 7)Muslim, who is the Saviour in Islam?”The two weakest points in Islam, Danielexplained, is that there is no absolute sin.Sin is a very variable thing. For examplelying is a sin, but if you are lying for thesake of Allah, that’s a good work. Killing isa sin, but if you are killing for the sake ofAllah, that’s the best work you can do forAllah. Adultery is sin, but you can have fourwives, and you can have ten pretty wives, you can have a child wife according to theHoly Qur’an. You can marry your adoptedson’s wife according to the Holy Qur’an,because the prophet of Allah, Mohammed,he did all those things. When you read theQur’an there is no concept of absolute sin.Sin is just a changing thing. This is sin, butit is not sin if you do it in differentcircumstances.“So I pointed out that weakness to theprofessors.” Said Daniel.“The other great weakness of Islam is thatthere is no assurance of salvation. As Imentioned, the initial report against me wasthat Muslims felt vilified because I wasteaching that Mohammed had no assuranceof salvation.”So Daniel asked the Muslim professors atthe college, “If I become a Muslim, tell mewho is the Saviour in Islam?”One professor answered, “Mohammed!”Daniel replied, “Look, your Qur’an teachesin Surah 46:9, Mohammed said, “Tellpeople, I do not know what will happen tome, and I do not know what will happen toyou.” Daniel continued, “Your prophetMohammed is making it very clear in yourholy book that he did not know what wouldhappen to him, He did not know what wouldhappen to anybody else. So if your prophetdid not know what would happen to him, that means he may be in heaven or he maybe in hell. He did not know where he isgoing. Now, how can he help me? Howcan he save me? In grand Surah 72:20-22,Mohammed said he cannot hurt anybody,he cannot help anybody, he cannot evenhelp himself.”“Many more Surahs make it very clear thatMohammed cannot help anybody. He is veryhelpless. And then there’s another set ofwritings called the Haddith. The Haddith isMohammed’s explanation of the Qur’an.There are many parts of the Qur’an whichare not very clear, such as Allah says in theQur’an that Muslims will have many wivesin Paradise. So when Muslims go toparadise they will have many many wivesthere, and they will get young men as wellin paradise according to the Qur’an. Butthe Qur’an doesn’t say how many wives, and how many young men will be given toevery Muslim man, so if he wants to findout he must read the Haddith. In the HaddithMohammed said that everyone will getseventy-two wives, and many other things. So the details are in the Haddith, not the8 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005Qur’an. And the Haddith is not one book. It’s more than fifty volumes. It’s a thickvolume of books. It’s not one small book,or fifty small books. It’s a lot of material. In the Haddith it says that Mohammed toldhis daughters and his relatives, his uncles, and his aunties, that he cannot save themfrom hell fire. We read that in Haddith Vol1: 108 -402. A Muslim has four volumes. In Volume No 1 Mohammed tells his Aunt,“I cannot save you. I cannot save you fromhell-fire, I cannot save you, my beloveddaughter, Fatma. You can have my worldlypossessions, but after this I cannot save youfrom fire.” It says that Mohammed used topray more than seventy times every dayfor the forgiveness of his sins, not one time, not two times, not ten times, but more thanseventy times every day, he used to prayfor the forgiveness of his sins, but still hehad no assurance of salvation. It says inthe Haddith that one day Mohammed wentto a funeral, and the lady of the house, wascrying and consoling her soul by saying thatthis man is now in Allah’s presence.Mohammed rebuked her saying, “I am theprophet of Allah, and I do not know whatwill happen to me so how can you say thatthis man is in Allah’s presence?”Daniel explained all this very clearly to hiscolleagues. He said, “Look, your prophet, your Mohammed did not know what wasgoing to happen to him when he died. Hecould not give any assurance of salvation. He had no assurance of his own salvation, and you think he can give me salvation?”Daniel continued, “On the other hand, youcan have assurance of salvation if you trustin the Lord Jesus Christ. We read in John’sGospel, chapter 14, “I am the way, the truthand the life. Nobody can come to the Fatherexcept through me”“The Muslim professors were very upset. They filed a case against me for vilifyingtheir prophet and for vilifying Islam. If youread certain parts of the Qur’an and theHaddith, you are vilifying Muslim people.”“I was also told in the court-room inVictoria, that I should not read the Qur’anand the Haddith, because if I do I amvilifying Muslim people. The IslamicCouncil’s QC said to me, “Pastor Scot, don’t read from the Qur’an and the Haddith, you are vilifying our clients.”“This is very sad. Muslim people are veryprotective of certain parts of the teachingsof their holy book. Some of it they just don’twant the public to know about.”“As a result of the professors in Pakistannot being happy with my response to them,a case was filed against me, and the verynext day, more than five thousand students, many of them with pistols and daggers, were searching for me to kill me.”Daniel now not only faced the very realthreat of being murdered by mobs ofMuslims but the temptation to deny his Lord.Well meaning people came to him one after(Continued page 24)YOUTHYouth Report features material of specialinterest to youth. The articles and lettersto the editor are either written for youth orAn Obedient Son- By Billy MillerThere is a story in the Bible about a veryobedient and submissive son. This young manwas both obedient to his father and to God.In the 22nd chapter of Genesis we find oneof the most amazing stories in the Bible. Godpromised Abraham a son in his old age. Godgave Abraham a son and he loved him verymuch. When Isaac was around 15 years ofage and Abraham was around 115 years, Godtold Abraham to go and sacrifice his only sonIsaac on an alter. Abraham loved God so much, that he took Isaac up the mountain and tiedhim up and reached back with a knife readyto kill him. But God stopped Abraham just atthe last minute and told him not to kill the boy.Sounds like some pretty rough stuff, doesn’tit? How many of you would have liked to havebeen Isaac? More importantly, how many ofyou would have responded in the same wayas Isaac? Let’s take a quick look at this youngman Isaac and how he responded when hewas asked to lay everything on the line, including his life.Firstly, Isaac was healthy and strong. Genesis22:6 says that Isaac carried all the wood forthe sacrifice up the mountain. They used alot of wood for sacrifices and Mount Moriahwas not a small mountain! But again, Isaacwas strong enough to carry the heavy loadup the steep mountain.Secondly we see that Isaac wanted to makesure that things were done right and that hetrusted in God. In verse 7 we see that Isaacobserved the things around him. He saw thathis father was carrying the knife and the firefor the sacrifice, and obviously he carried thewood, but, as he continued to think about it,he realized that something was missing,

REPORTby youth. If you have any questions, comments or articles please email:goodreport@optusnet.com.authe stingof alcohol- By Katy-Anne Binsteadsomething very essential. There was no lambfor the sacrifice! He then probably thought;dad is getting a bit old (115 years) and isstarting to forget some things. So hementioned it to Abraham and Abraham saysto him “God will provide a lamb.” Thisseemed to satisfy Isaac and he was contentto trust in God for a lamb.Lastly, we see that Isaac was submissive andobedient. When Abraham and Isaac reachedthe top of Mount Carmel, Abraham begansetting everything up for a sacrifice. I imaginethat Isaac was watching Abraham as he setthe stones in place and gathered the woodand set it in order. Then I imagine that wheneverything was done that Isaac saw Abrahamsuddenly weeping. Abraham then told Isaacthat he would be the sacrifice. Isaac readilyobeyed and allowed his father to bind himwith rope and lay him on the altar. Isaac couldhave easily fought his father. He was a strong15 year old boy. He could have fought offhis 115 year old father! It would have beenso easy for him to refuse. However, Isaacwas obedient. He knew that God didn’t makemistakes and that everything would work outto the glory of God. Isaac was a willing andan obedient servant to do what Abraham andGod requested of him. As we read, God didnot allow Abraham to kill Isaac. Rather Godprovided a sacrifice in the form of a ram andIsaac was spared. How many of us would have been like Isaacin this instance. If your father told you thatGod wanted him to sacrifice you, would yoube ok with it and be obedient? I know that isa bit far fetched, but there’s probablysomething that your parents and God wantyou to do that you are not willing to do. Isaacwas a willing and obedient servant. Are youas willing and obedient as you should be?This story of Abraham and Isaac is a pictureof Christ. God gave His only Son whom Heloved so very much, to come and die for us.This is a great picture. Abraham was willingto give his only son to die, though he lovedhim very much because he loved God evenmore. If Isaac had refused to go along withhis dad’s request, he would have messed upthis great picture. Often we cannot see thebenefit from our obedience. But it could havesome kind of impact on people years down theroad. We just cannot see it yet. Young people,be like Isaac and learn from his life and hisexample and apply it to your own lifeGraphic Design by Janne PetersonTHERE SEEMS TO BE A LOTof confusion on the subject of alcohol. This is a very important topic, especially here in Australia where alcohol ispart of our culture. I used to believe that itwas ok to drink alcohol as long as you didn’tget drunk, but I have since learned that theBible is against all alcoholic beverages. TheBible is clear on the fact that we should noteven look at alcoholic beverages, much lessdrink them. Consider the following verses:Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who hathcontentions? Who hath babbling? Who hathwounds without cause? Who hath rednessof eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; theythat go to seek mixed wine. Look not thouupon the wine when it is red, when it giveth hiscolour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingethlike an adder. (Proverbs 23:29-32).The first few verses describe drunkennessexactly. But then these verses go on to tellus to not even look upon when it isfermenting, so if we are not even to look atit, much less are we meant to drink it. Thenthese verses also describe consequences ofdrinking. It tells us here that it biteth like aserpent and stingeth like an adder. Now,where I come from, in North Queensland,we have a snake called a death adder. I haveseen one, and it was terrifying. If you standon a death adder and it bites you, it willkill you. We have very dangerous snakesin Northern Australia and I take great carewhen I come across the paths of snakesto not ever be bitten. I would not pick upa snake and play with it. We should notdo that with alcohol either. There is wisdom in these verses when theytell us to not even look at wine when it isfermenting. I find that if someone takesone look, they will take another, and thenanother, and then another. Then they willpick it up and look at it closer. Eventuallythey will drink.Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: andwhosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.Proverbs 20:1. I have to smile sometimes atthe language used in the Bible. God calls aspade a spade. He tells us that wine is amocker. Strong drink is raging. And then Hetells us that if we have been deceived bydrinking it, then we are fools. The messagehere is very clear.Proverbs 23:20 tells us even more. Be notamong winebibbers; among riotous eaters offlesh. In this verse the Bible tells us to not evenbe with people who are drunk. It is not a scenethat we as Christians should even be near. The argument that it is OK to drink so longas you don’t get drunk doesn’t make sensebecause you can’t tell how much of it isgoing to make you drunk. It is a sin to get drunk, but it is also sin to drink alcohol at all. There is a lot of debate in Christian circlesabout the fact that Jesus turned the waterinto wine at the wedding feast at Cana. Butthe word wine as used in that passage is talkingabout non-alcoholic, unfermented grape juice. The Bible clearly condemns the consumptionof alcohol and for Jesus to have madealcoholic wine would have made Him a sinner. He did not make alcoholic wine, He madegrape juice. The people at the wedding feasteven commented that the best wine had beenleft till last, and they could taste it was thebest because it was pure, fresh grape juice. Also there is debate that the Bible is not againstall forms of alcohol consumption becausePaul told Timothy to take a little wine for hisstomachs sake, but again in this passage it istalking about fresh grape juice, which isunfermented. The medical properties of grapejuice are well known, and grape juice doessettle the stomach.I know that Australian culture revolves aroundalcohol, but our culture is wrong. The Bibletells us to refrain from alcohol, and we are toobey the Bible, not our culture.- By Katy-Anne BinsteadGOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005 9

This is documented in our WorldWatch List, the 50 worst persecutingcountries in the world. Vietnam ranks numberthree,” says Moeller.Moeller says the tribal Christians are treatedhorribly. “These people are hounded andforced to recant their faith, oftentimes at thethreat of imprisonment or torture. And,Vietnam continues to flaunt internationalconsensus on freedom of religion.”Moeller is praying President Bush won’t tradeeconomics for human rights, as the U-S did withChina. “We’ve seen it with China, where we said,‘Oh, if we give them economic freedom, they willreduce their persecution and human rightsabuses.’ That has not happened.”Vietnam has made similar pledges, but nothinghas changed. Please pray for VietnameseChristians. (MNN)CHINARURAL PERSECUTION PREVAILSCarl Moeller reports persecution in the ruralareas is quite bad. “It’s worse now than it hasbeen in quite some time. In the westernprovinces in China, in the rural villages inChina, where nearly 700-hundred millionpeople still live as farmers, local authoritiescontinue to exert incredible repression onChristian activity in those communities.”There’s a growing pressure on allunderground churches to register. For those who don’t, or won’t, the governmentcracks down. Late July there was a mass arreston a group who were in training for kids’ ministry.“Imagine, you’re going to a Sunday Schooltraining, you’re learning how to teach kidsSunday School lessons, and the governmentarrests you for this. (MNN)Wide-ranging persecutionWide ranging persecution of ChineseChristians in recent months has dashed hopesof greater religious freedom promised in a newlaw on religion that took effect in March.According to Compass Direct, China adoptedthe new Regulations on Religious Affairswhich encouraged house churches to registerwith the relevant government body. Youngerhouse church leaders were optimistic aboutthe law, while an older generation of leaders— those who survived the CommunistCultural Revolution — were suspicious of thegovernment’s motives. A wave of arrests inMay, June and July cast further doubt on thegovernment’s intent to allow religious liberty.Police surrounded an entire village in Henanprovince on 24 June, during a leadershiptraining program for house church pastors.About 100 pastors from major cities in Henanwere arrested, according to the China AidAssociation (CAA). Nine, including theleading pastor, Chen Dongming, were detainedA month earlier, on May 24, police arrestedthree Christian women in Henan province,CAA reported. Police held them for two daysand brutally beat them, to the point where Liu,52, suffered a heart attack.CAA also reported the arrest of 20 housechurch leaders in Pinglu county, Shanxiprovince, northern China. Pastor ZhangGuangmin and Elder Li, who were leading theBible class, were held for two weeks and onemonth respectively in a detention centre.Chinese border guards also detained 12Christians from the mainland who weretravelling to Pakistan. According to Compasssources, police detained them for several daysafter one member of the group admitted theywere going as missionaries. These are only a few of the stories coming outof China. Despite concerns raisedin Parliament as well as parental concern, thebooks are still being pushed in the schools.Passages such as “Jed coming over with histwo dads” and “my mums” withaccompanying illustrations made the book’sagenda quite obvious. Harding insists thebooks are not about sex. “They are justlooking at a family relationship that is notfeatured in other books for kids.” The bookswere launched as part of the Gay & LesbianMardi Gras program and have since beendistributed in schools. Many other conservatives in the parliamentagree with Mr. Stoner on this issue. The PrimeMinister had earlier raised his strong concernsabout Harding’s appearance on Play School, suggesting the ABC was running a prohomosexualagenda. “Your ABC” has becomecommonly known as the “Gay- BC”.The intervention by Mr. Stoner is a goodsign that Australian Christians are finallytaking their God given responsibility togovern according to Biblical standardsseriously. FATHERHOOD IS NOThonoured today as it oncewas. Going back just afew decades, it was quite anaccepted belief that a father wasthe head of the home and finalauthority. Few knew where thisbelief came from and so gave itaway as soon as it waschallenged. But this is not just acultural tradition or optional viewpoint. It is Biblical doctrine, commanded and inspired byGod. Ephesians, 5:22, “Wives, submit yourselves unto yourown husbands, as unto the Lord.23For the husband is the headof the wife, even as Christ is thehead of the church... 24 Thereforeas the church is subject unto Christ,so let the wives be to their ownhusbands in every thing. 25Husbands, love your wives, evenas Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it...”One of the many factors in theerosion of Christian ethics in ourculture is feminism. Aphilosophy that urges women tonot reverence or need theirhusbands and even to hate men. This teaching has been powerfuland destructive world wide andhas reached absurdity as most‘isms’ do. For example, A Britishsurvey revealed that “... Amassive 87 per cent ... reckonedtheir fridge was moreindispensable than theirpartner.” (The Deacon Herald,16.8.1997). Shows how cold theyhave become. It would be funnyif it wasn’t so serious.12 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005Feminism is a form of terrorism much closer to home thanIslamic terrorism. It’s a war against God’s design formarriage and family. We have a lot of well warrantedconcerns about Islamic terrorism and we probably will havetill the Lord comes. There are terrorist training camps formen, women and children all around the world, but feminismalso has its training camps, “Today there are almosteverywhere war-schools for women. Only they are nameddifferently. They are called self-experience- and therapygroups, esoteric rounds. Or just women groups... and developto military academies fighting against men.” (Joan Bitterman, p.13) “... They plan the conflict, train it in role games within theirgroups, learn everything about their enemy/partner/man... Andnone of the men notices, has any idea that “... everything ... hesays or does will be used against him”. The questioned mendid not even believe, that this is true. They are confident, thatit was “often just a misunderstanding”, they simply refuse tobelieve in an unspoken declaration of war, “can’t imagine”, tobe fought.” ([JB], Joan Bitterman, p. 181) Even though the majorityof women are not radical militant feminists, very few, evenamongst Christians, have rejected it totally. And it continuesto be propagated in the public education system. Any childthat is being brought up under this system will be infected.Girls are being empowered and boys are being weakened. As a result of feminism hijacking our Christian culture andeven changing the beliefs in many churches, fatherhood hassuffered, marriages have suffered and most of all childrenhave suffered.Children have a need to respect and look up to their father.Little children do this instinctively, but it must also be taughtand commanded. Proverbs 17:6 says, Children's children arethe crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. There are many forces working against the development of aloving respect from son and daughter to father and mother. For instance television shows; compare the TV sit com “theBrady Bunch” of even the 70’s with the recent show, “Marriedwith Children”. Government policies also frequently diminisha father’s responsibility and honour. Compare formergovernment taxation policy that gave a married man withdependants a tax rebate with the current policy of childendowment - where the government provides directly to thewoman and children, not through dad. Government policy alsoensures that most women with children would be better offDEVILUTIONfinanciallyif they lefta husbandon anaveragewage andwere supported by welfare.Such policies also encouragesthe “single mum” epidemic. And equally rotten, theGovernment’s policy whichencourages young people toleave home, providing financialassistance to run-aways “streetkids” etc. The prodigal son ishistory! Young people will nevercome to their senses, humblyrepent and return home to theirfather because the governmentkeeps feeding them and tidyingup their pig pen.Because of this attack from theworld especially against fathers, young people need, all the more,to be encouraged to honourtheir father and mother. Thewife especially needs to nurturethis honour and respect in thechildren for their father. Amother needs to teach thechildren to respect their fatherby her example. For instance, when a wife disagrees with herhusband’s instructions to thechildren in front of them, thisbelittles him, destroys the orderand authority in the home andbreeds rebellion. Women’s Biblestudy groups should alsoencourage women to respecttheir husbands, “The agedwomen likewise, that they be ...teachers of good things; 4 Thatthey may teach the young women

to be sober, to love their husbands, to lovetheir children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their ownhusbands, that the word of God be notblasphemed (Titus 2:3-4) ... And the wife seethat she reverence her husband. (Eph. 5:33).(Women are especially suited to teach otherwomen on the need to love, reverence andsubmit to their husbands. That way themessage stays clear of coming across asa “vested interest” doctrine of men). Achurch which fails to teach submission, honour and respect in the home will havewrecked homes, hypocrites or familieswho leave the church ending up“homewrecked” out there somewhere. If a husband and wife do not obeyEphesians chapter 5 how can they expectthe children to obey Ephesians 6:1-3“Children, obey your parents in the Lord:for this is right.Christian teachers, pastors, Bible studyleaders, youth group leaders and Sundayschool teachers all need to ensure thatthey uphold the authority of the homeand reinforce the God’s command to,Honour thy father and mother; which isthe first commandment with promise; 3That it may be well with thee, and thoumayest live long on the earth.” They needto be careful not to take sides with thechildren against their parents in disputes. If they are ministering to, counselling orteaching children they need to seethemselves as servants to the parents andnot act as superiors over the parents, oras parental replacements or kidnappers.Too often a teacher, school or churchwill see themselves as an authority over;rather than subject to, the parents. Thiswill breed contempt and disrespect in thechildren’s attitude towards all authority. One teacher said to her rude, unrulystudents, “I don’t care if you talk to yourmother like that but there’s no way I’mputting up with it!” She was in effectsaying to the kids, respecting me is moreimportant than respecting your mother. It would have been better if she had said,“You shouldn’t talk to your mother likethat and nor will I put up with it!”There have also been situations inchurches where youth group leaders havehelped youth leave home (or stay away10 tips for beinga successful dad1) Talk with your children often about all thatGod has done and is doing for you personally.Talk of His salvation, blessings, provisions, trials and even chastisements in your own life.Be humble. Talk of how God has intervenedand does intervene historically nationally andinternationally and throughout Bible history. If you find it difficult to talk to your childrenabout God, talk to God - beseech Him to enableyou to obey His command to talk to them,And thou shalt love the LORD thy God withfrom home) because of “parentalproblems” (not referring here tocriminal ones like incest or physicalabuse), but rather parental conflict, usually caused by problems on bothsides. The youth usually lacking in anobedient spirit and respect for the fatherand/or mother. Often the youth groupleader takes the side of the youngperson without discussing the situationwith the parents. This hinders a youngperson’s spiritual growth and maturity. Not being taught to respect theauthority in the home they haveconsequently not been able to respectother authorities including eventuallythat of the youth group leader. This willgreatly hinder a young woman alsofrom respecting her future husbandwhom she will eventually also rebelagainst as she did her dad.Parents and those in authority over thechild outside the home need to be on thesame side, for the young person’s good. They should not try to steal the hearts ofthe children from their parents but ratherturn their hearts to their parents and thehearts of the parents to the children. “Andhe shall ... turn the hearts of the fathers tothe children, and the disobedient to thewisdom of the just; to make ready a peopleprepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17)Those teaching children or teens in thechurch or school should be upholdingthe family unit and honouring parentalauthority by re-enforcing God’s Word. When the Pharisees taught, [Thosewho] “...honour not his father or hismother, he shall be free...” Jesus rebukedthem saying: “Thus have ye made thecommandment of God of none effect byyour tradition.” (Mat 15:4)Whatever chain of command or traditionmay be set up in the church or schoolnone should overrule the Word of God.And the authority of parents over theirown children is a God given authorityand responsibility. One that ourgovernment, churches and homes allshould uphold and respect. Fathers Dayis a good day to re-dedicate our selvesto obeying the Lord Jesus Christ byhonouring our heavenly Father - byhonouring our physical father or adoptedfather - the man we call, Dadall thine heart, and with all thy soul, andwith all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be inthine heart: And thou shalt teach themdiligently unto thy children, and shalt talk ofthem when thou sittest in thine house, andwhen thou walkest by the way, and whenthou liest down, and when thou risest up.(Deut. 6:5-7)2) Have a home prayer & Bible studyregularly with your children. How manychildrenshould we have?Is there a Biblical doctrine on procreation?1 Timothy 4:13, Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. How often has a young man and woman asked each other, either during their engagementor when first married, the question, “How many children should we have?” Somemore godly couples may even have prayed about it. But how many have actuallysought God’s will through God’s word? How many have been more noble and reallysearched the scriptures for an answer to this question? Acts 17:11 says, These weremore noble..., in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, andsearched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.What does the Bible teach? What was the first command given toman & woman?Genesis 1:28, And God blessed them, and Godsaid unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, andreplenish the earth and subdue it: and havedominion over the fish of the sea, and overthe fowl of the air, and over every living thingthat moveth upon the earth. The first command God gave man and womanwas to be fruitful and multiply. He also said toreplenish the earth and subdue it and havedominion over the fish..., fowl... and over everyliving thing. Do we still needto obey God’s command tosubdue and havedominion...? If theanswer is yes does itnot follow that wealso need toobey God’s command to be fruitful andmultiply?God also commanded Noah to be fruitful inGenesis 9:1, And God blessed Noah and hissons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, andmultiply, and replenish the earth.Genesis 9:7-10, And you, be ye fruitful andmultiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein. And God spake untoNoah and to his sons with him, saying, And I,behold, I establish my covenant with you, andwith your seed after you; and with everyliving creature that is with you, ... from allthat go out of the ark to every beast of theearth.Genesis 35:11, And God said unto him: I amGod Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; anation and a company of nations shall be ofthee, and kings shall come out thy loins. In the book of Psalms it is written: Psalm 127:3-5, Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Asarrowsare in the hand of a mighty man,so are the children of the youth.Happy is the man that hath hisquiver full of them; they shall notbe ashamed, but they shall speakwith the enemies in the gate.We read here that children are asarrows in the hand of a mightyman, The word ‘mighty man’ means warrior.Quiver is an arrow-case. The Bible says happyis the man that has his quiver full. How manyarrows would a warrior carry in his arrow case?Surely more than a couple, surely more thanthree. At least 5 to 6. In fact the more arrowsthe safer the warrior would be in self defenceand the more successful he would be as aconqueror. This verse also says children are God’srewards. A Christian couple should be keen toreceive God’s reward. Surely as many rewardsas possible!Psalm 128:1-4 says, Blessed is every one thatfeareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands:happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well withthee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine bythe sides of thine house: thy children likeolive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareththe LORD.God promises a man that fears the Lord manyblessings including that his wife shall be as afruitful vine.If a grape vine had just one, two or threegrapes on it would that be a fruitful vine?Hardly, a fruitful vine is full of grapes.Wouldn’t a fruitful vine when compared to awoman’s conception be as many children asa woman of child bearing age can conceive?Perhaps if more men feared the Lord, in otherwords were godly men, more women woulddesire to have a lot more children. The Bible teaches that children are a gift fromthe Lord. Should a Christian couple refusegifts from the Lord?Genesis 33:5 And he lifted up his eyes, andsaw the women and the children; and said,Who are those with thee? And he said, Thechildren which God hath graciously giventhy servant.Genesis 48:9, “They are my sons, whom GODHATH GIVEN ME in this place.”Joshua 24:3, “I took your father Abraham...andmultiplied his seed, and GAVE HIM ISAAC.”Ruth 4:13b, “The LORD GAVE HERCONCEPTION, and she bare a son.”1 Chronicles 25:4-6. “Bukkiah, Mattaniah,Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hannaniah,Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer,Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, andMahazioth: all these were the sons of Heman18 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005THE MILLION DOLLARQUESTIONA recent article in the Bulletin magazine (13/07/2005) titled“A Life with no kids” reported that by not having childrena man could “save” or have an extra million dollars at hisdisposal. In other words a child or children (notspecifically quantified) could cost a million dollars toraise. Not mentioned in the article, this amount isobviously debatable and would vary from family tofamily depending on what parent’s chose to spend ontheir children. For example, a parent’s choice of clothingfor their child. Whether a parent purchases “DesignerLabel” clothing or buys the “specials” at a budgetdepartment store, makes the child’s clothes or buys (orreceives free) second hand clothes (which many do)would alone make a huge difference in expenditure. But suppose a child/children did cost 1 million dollarsto raise. Lets assume it takes 18 - 21 years to raise achild. What else could save/give the average Australianman - Aussie bloke - a substantial amount of moneyover an 18 - 21 year period? Not including inflation in these cost estimates, following are a few examples of lifestyle changes thatcould save the average (non-Christian) manthousands of dollars, (not to mention the health andmany other benefits).

the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift upthe horn. And GOD GAVE TO HEMANfourteen sons and three daughters. All thesewere under the hands of their father for songin the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of thehouse of God, according to the king’s order...”HOW SHOULD WE RECEIVE A GIFT?We see from the Scriptures that children are agift from God. What should we do with a gift, especially a gift from God? Reject it or receiveit? How should we receive the gift of children?Matthew 18:5 says, “Whoso shall receive onesuch little child in my name receives Me.”The word ‘receive’ that is used here is theGreek word, ‘dechomal’ which means to ‘accepta gift deliberately and readily; to receiveheartily; reaching out eagerly to receivesomething; looking for; waiting with earnestexpectation.’ Check also Luke 9:48. It isdifferent from when the word ‘lambano’ is usedwhich means to receive without necessarily afavourable reception. Matthew 18: 5 tells usthat when we receive a little child, we areactually receiving Jesus Himself. To welcomea baby is to welcome Jesus! Should we receiveJesus with a half-hearted attitude? Some folksare adamant that they don’t want to havechildren at all. Others will say, “Well, if Godgives us one, we’ll accept, but we’re nottrying.” Some say, “One boy and a girl is allwe want.” Others say smugly they alreadyhave enough children. They don’t need anymore. They forget that each child is a new uniquegift. There is none alike. The Bible says that weare to intentionally desire the gift of children.WHY DOES GOD GIVE US CHILDREN?1. TO PROCREATE THE EARTHGenesis 1:28, And God blessed them, and Godsaid unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, andreplenish the earth2. TO HONOUR USGod gives us children to bless us, honour us,and give us greater glory and power in theearth. The more godly children we have, themore power we have for God in the earth. Themore power we have over the enemy. And themore glory we have. Jeremiah 30:19, And outof them shall proceed thanksgiving and thevoice of them that make merry: and I will multiplythem, and they shall not be few; I will also glorifythem, and they shall not be small. It is noteworthy that God commences theblessing chapter of Deuteronomy 28 withthese words, “God will set thee on high aboveall nations of the earth.” He then proceeds tosay how He will do this - by pouring outabundant blessings, the greatest being theblessing of the fruit of the womb. God’s Wordsays that the blessing of children will set uson high. The world looks upon those who have a largefamily to be inferior. This is the deception ofthe enemy, the one who is called the Deceiverand Liar. This thinking is opposite to the truthof the Word of God, which says that theblessing of family will set us on high. See alsoA FAMOUS FATHER - Johann Sebastian BachJohann Sebastian Bach married his secondcousin, Maria Barbara Bach, on October 17,1707 after receiving a small inheritance. Theyhad 7 children, 4 of whom survived toadulthood. Little is known of Maria Barbara. She died suddenly on July 7, 1720 while Bachwas travelling with Prince Leopold. While at Cöthen, Bach met Anna MagdalenaWilcke, a young soprano. They married onDecember 3, 1721. Despite the age difference(she was 17 years his junior), the couple seemto have had a very happy marriage. Annasupported Johann’s composing (many finalscores are in her hand) while he encouragedher singing. Together they had 13 children. All the Bach children were musically inclined, which must have given the aging composerExodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16; Psalm 107:41;Matthew 15:4; Ephesians 6:2,3.3. TO DO US GOOD and GIVE US JOYDeuteronomy 30:5 says, “He will do thee good, and multiply thee.” When God wants to dosomething good for us, He gives us children. These scriptures also confirm this: Genesis32:12; Deuteronomy 7:13; 13:16; 28:63a; 30:9.Psalm 127:5 says, “HAPPY is the man who hashis quiver full of children.” It doesn’t say he’llbe ashamed. It doesn’t say he’ll be miserable orpoor. It says he will be HAPPY! Does God lie?Godly children bring much joy to a marriage.Every other ‘thing’ we strive after in this life isfleeting and will pass away. It is only our childrenthat are lasting gifts. We can take them into eternitywith us. Everything else will be left behind.4. FOR THE SERVICE OF GODLuke 1:15-17 tells us that John was not onlygiven to Zechariah and Elizabeth to give themgreat joy but for a specific purpose. “He willbring many of the sons of Israel to the Lordtheir God...to turn the hearts of fathers towardtheir children and the disobedient back to thewisdom of the just, preparing for the Lord a peoplefit for Him.” Every child that God gives to us, comesinto the world with a destiny planned by God.We read in 1 Chronicles 25 that Heman’s childrenwere given to him to help him in his service forGod. “They were all under the direction of theirfather ...” Our children are given to us to train forthe service of God. They are given to us to preparemuch pride. His sons Wilhelm FriedemannBach, Johann Gottfried Bernhard Bach, JohannChristoph Friedrich Bach, Johann ChristianBach, and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach allbecame accomplished musicians, with C.P.E.Bach winning the respect of WolfgangAmadeus Mozart. Although the barriers towomen having professional careers were great, all of Bach’s daughters most likely sang andpossibly played in their father’s ensembles. The only one of the Bach daughters to marry,Elisabeth Juliana Friederica, chose as herhusband Bach’s student Johann ChristophAltnickol. Most of the music we have fromBach was passed on through his children, whopreserved much of what C.P.E. Bach called the‘Old Bach Archive’ after his father’s deathThe smokerIf a smoker, who smoked a packet of cigarettesa day ($10 per pack) would give it up for 18years, he could save $65,745Over 21 years = $76,703The drinkerA drinker who drank one carton (24 cans, @approx. $35.00 pr carton) of beer each week(3.4 cans per day) could save $32,760.Over 21 years = $38,220Compare that cost to a supermarket’s sale priceon Spring water (24x600ml bottles) for $9.98 acarton. If a man drank 3.4 bottles of 600 mlwater pr day for 18 years it would cost him$9,341.28. Over 21 years = $10,898.16Just think what you could save if you dranktap water! Perhaps it would be even better toinvest $10,000 dollars in a rain water tank! The junk food consumerA man who liked to frequent a fast food outletlike “McDonalds” or “Hungry Jacks” once aweek, who spent approx. $7.00 per “meal deal”could save $6,552 over 18 years.Over 21 years = $7,644So all up, if a man gave up smoking, drinkingbeer and one visit a week to a fast food outletfor 18 years he could save over 100,000 dollars,$104,832 to be exact! Over 21 years = $122, 304There are many other “unprofitable”(to say the least) and wasteful thingspeople spend money on that would, over 18-21 years, save them asubstantial sum of money. Out ofanything we can spend our money on,surely our children would have to bethe best investment. As the ApostlePaul wrote to the Church at Corinth,“...For the children ought not to lay upfor the parents, but the parents for thechildren. 15 And I will very gladly spendand be spent for you....” (II Cor. 12:14-15a)GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005 19

Morning after pill- a serioushealthhazardAs ‘Morning-After’ PillCasualties Mount, CWAUrges FDA Withdrawal ofAbortion Drug- By Rusty PughAPRO-LIFE WOMEN’S GROUP SAYS theU.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) is withholding information that adangerous abortion drug has caused near fatalinjuries in hundreds of women.Late last month the FDA admitted that fivewomen in the United States and Canada havedied after developing complications fromtaking the so-called “morning-after” pill, alsoknown as RU-486 or Mifepristone. The drughas been linked to, among other things, lifethreateningcervical infections — some ofwhich are not detected until it is too late. But while the FDA did confirm the fivedocumented deaths, neither the federal agencynor Danco Laboratories, the company thatmakes the abortion pill, disclosed the fact thatRU-486 has caused severe health problemsfor more than 600 women. Wendy Wright, senior policy director for Concerned Womenfor America, believes the FDA is keeping somecrucial information from thepublic in an effort to protect itself.“We discovered through aFreedom of Information [Act]request that there have beenover 600 adverse events —complications suffered bywomen after taking RU-486,”Wright says. “And actually it’smore than that that,” she adds. The pro-family advocateexplains that the initial 600 eventsuncovered were only “the firstbatch of these reports that wereceived from the FDA last fall.”Since that time, she says her group has doneanother FOIA request, “and just last weekreceived an additional 262 adverse eventsreports, which we still need to go through. Itwill take a while to go through all of those.”CWA asked two OB/GYN physicians toassess the reports, and the doctors foundincluded some 220 cases in which patients whohad taken RU-486 suffered hemorrhages thatwere either life-threatening or extremelyWendy Wrightserious, many of them requiring bloodtransfusions. Also, 392 of the reports indicatedthat the women required surgery — oftenunder emergency conditions — to repairdamage resulting from their abortions.Wright feels FDA officials need to be more upfront with the public about the risks associatedwith the “morning-after” pill. Shesays the federal agency has anobligation to be forthcomingwith the information it hasabout the risk of death andsevere health problems thathave been linked to thedangerous abortion drug. Moreover, the CWA spokeswomanis calling on the FDA topull Mifepristone from themarket while its purportedsafety is reviewed. But so far,she says, the only action thefederal agency responsible forapproving this dangerous drug has taken toprotect the public from its health risks hasbeen to enhance the warning label on thebox — a measure she insists is simply notstrong enough.“Women trust that the FDA is doing its job toprotect our health,” Wright points out. “Tocontinue this trust, the FDA should withdrawits approval of RU-486 before more womendie,” she says. HOW TOTrain up a child“ATTITUDE TRAINING VS TEMPER TANTRUMS”By Michael & Debi PearlTHROWING A FIT-TEMPER TANTRUMSMy nine-and eleven-year-old daughterscame in from a neighbour’s house, complaining of a young mother’s failure totrain her child. A seven-month-old boy, whofailed to get his way, had stiffened, clenchedhis fists, bared his toothless gums, and calleddown damnation on the whole place. At atime like that, the angry expression a baby’sface can resemble that of one instigating ariot. The young mother, wanting to do theright thing, stood there in helplessconsternation, apologetically shrugged hershoulders, and asked, “What can I do?” Myincredulous nine-year-old answered.“Switch him.” The mother responded, “Ican’t, he’s too little.” With the wisdom of aveteran who had been on the receiving endof the switch, my daughter answered, “ Ifhe is old enough to pitch a fit, he is oldenough to be spanked.”PERSISTENCESome have asked, “ But what if the childonly screams louder gets madder?” Knowthat if he is accustomed to getting hisunrestricted way, you can expect just sucha response. He will just continue to do whathe has always done to get his way. It is hispurpose to intimidate you and make youfeel like an overbearing tyrant. Don’t bebullied. Give him more of the same. Switchhim eight or ten times on his bare legs orbottom. Then, while waiting for the pain tosubside, speak calm works or rebuke. Ifhis crying turns to a true, wounded, submissive whimper, you have conquered;he has submitted his will. If his crying isstill defiant, protesting, and other than aresponse to pain, spank him again. If this isthe first time he has come up againstsomeone tougher than he is, it may take awhile. He must be convinced that you havetruly altered your expectations. There is no justification for this to be donein anger. If you are the least bit angry, waituntil another time. Most parents are so guiltladen and paranoid that they are unable tocarry this through to the end.If you stop before he voluntarily submissive, you have confirmed to him the value andeffectiveness of a screaming protest. Thenext time, it will take twice as long toconvince him of your commitment to hisobedience because he has learned theultimate triumph of endurance in thisepisode in which he has prevailed. Once helearns that the reward of a tantrum is aswift, forceful spanking, he will NEVERthrow another fit. If you enforce the rulethree times and then fail on the fourth, hewill keep looking for that loop-hole untilyou have convinced himit will not work again. If a parent starts atinfancy, discouraging thefirst crying demands, thechild will never developthe habit. In our home afit was totally unknownbecause the first time itwas tried we made itcounter-productive.FATHERS“Like Father like son”Never expect more of your children in theway of attitude than you are yourself. Happy,well-balanced parents that neglect the rodand reproof will have grouchy, complaining,tantrum-oriented children. But in a situationwhere one or both of the parents are anemotional wreck, not much can beexpected from the child.A child is going to be the harvest of hisparents’ temperament. If a mother is sulky, critical or selfish, the children will have atendency to be the same. If the father is abully or full of anger and impatience, hissons will be too. If the father is rude, demanding, and disrespectful of the mother, you can expect the same from his sons. Ifa father is intemperate or lustful, the childrenwill likely be worse. God says, I will visit“Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy Godam a jealous God, visiting the iniquity ofthe fathers upon the children unto the thirdand fourth generation... (Exo. 20:5)” I haveseen many children despise their parents’sins, yet grow up to bejust like them. The lesson is this is: YOUMUST BE what youwant your child to be - inattitude as well as inactions. Don’t try to “beatthe ugly” out of a child thatis just a display windowof your own attitudesEach one of us had fathers, according to God’s will; Some have already passed away, others are with us still. We all have different memories of Dads down through the years,Many filled with happiness, others recalled with tears.Emotions run the gauntlet in many a person’s heartWhen they recall relationships and the feelings they impart. What’s past is past; we can’t turn back and change what’s gone before,But we’ve been blessed with freedom to discover even moreThe love of Christ the Saviour in our homes each passing day,And some have dads who’ve chosen Him, and walk the better way.We thank our heavenly Father for each Dad who’s been forgiven;Who’s life is now surrendered, and on they’re way to heaven. Our fathers had a role to play, But many did not knowThat God had written in His Word just how that role should go.They were supposed to love the Lord, and train their children too-To be a good example so that we might love him too.But very often time went on went on - life’s meaning wasn’t clear,And many dads just didn’t know this love of Christ so dear.22 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005If you’ve a Dad who hasn’t yet surrendered to the Lord,Keep praying And behaving as God tells you in His Word; And thank Him for the precious ones we pray for fervently,Who need To know the Saviour so that they might be set free.Whatsoever state your father’s heart is in today, be trueTo all the guidance in God’s Book, and see what He can do!- By Merle Mitchell

The forgotten command...THOUSHALTREJOICEDepression and Suicide, how can we prevent them? The Australian Government announced this year that it is committing $8 millionfor 49 suicide prevention initiatives. Under the National Suicide Prevention Strategy, the Australian Government has provided around $10 million annually since 1999 forthe development of national and community models of suicide prevention.AROUND 2200 AUSTRALIANScommit suicide each year, taking anenormous toll on Australian familiesand communities. The government recognises it cannotaddress these problems alone but must“draw on the strengths and expertise thatbusiness, communities and families canbring to the fight against the devastation oflives needlessly lost through suicide.”A 1997 report by the Australian Bureau ofStatistics into mental health estimated thatonly 25% of people believed to be sufferingfrom depression were actually receivingadequate treatment. In August this year, Will Delaat, Nationalpresident of medicines Australia, told theNational Press Galary that according tocurrent trends it is estimated that depressionwill be the most common illness by the year2020. The World Health Organisation hasalso warned that depression will escalatefrom the fourth-greatest cause of deathto the equal-biggest cause in the Westernworld by 2020.Such facts and statistics raise manyquestions; how can we prevent suicide? Willmillions of dollars poured into variousorganisations help prevent suicides? Whatis the cause of suicide? There would be a thousand different reasonswhy people commit suicide and just asmany solutions for how suicide can beprevented. But few would argue that themost common cause is depression.Depression, it must be emphasised, canhave physical causes over which aperson’s attitude or spiritual condition haslittle or no influence. Causes such as braintumours, other physical/mental illnessesof various kinds. This article will not be dealing with theseconditions. The depression being dealt withhere is one which can be prevented by aperson’s willingness to change as a resultof applying good counsel. The suicide counselling most of us wouldbe familiar with would be that seen in manymovies when the desperate man or womanis standing on the edge of a 20 storey highbuilding about to jump. The better time toprevent suicide is obviously long before sucha scene ever eventuates. The Bible is full of commands and counsel, from Genesis to Revelation, that if followedwould prevent depression and suicide. Many have the wrong impression that Godis a God who wants people to be miserable.A God who stops people from having “fun”,from being “happy”, an “ogre in the sky”.But the exact opposite is true. God wantsto bless people. The word bless meanshappy. In other words God wants to makepeople happy. That is the reason He createdthe human race. And that is why Godcommands people not to do those thingsthat on the surface, at face value, mayappear to bring happiness, but actually putpeople at great risk of experiencing suddenor eventual sorrow and destruction. Onesimple example is alcohol. It’s quitecommon for someone suffering fromdepression to turn to alcohol to make lifemore bearable. On the surface a couple ofglasses of beer or wine may seem likeharmless fun while a drinker is ‘tipsy’, butthe majority of people do not stop there.Instead they end up drunk, which, to namejust a few consequence (there are manymore), cause hangovers, vomiting, alcoholic poisoning and even death -whether as a direct consequence ofpoisoning the body or by drink driving, brawls etc. etc.The Hon. Harry Quick, a member of theHouse of Representatives in Tasmaniarecently said, “It is a fact that impulsivebehaviour caused by excessive alcohol is amajor factor in the following:70 to 80 per cent of night time assaults, 50per cent of domestic and sexual violence,50 percent of deaths from assault, 44 percent of deaths from fires, 35 per cent ofindustrial accidents, 34 per cent of deathsfrom falls and drowning, 30 percent of allroad deaths, 16 per cent of child abusedeaths and 12 per cent of suicides.” (From‘About the House’ May 2005 edition)In fact 3,500 Australians are killed eachyear as a result of alcohol, 95,000 arehospitalised. In addition to the human cost, the financial cost of alcohol abuse isestimated at a staggering $7.5 billion. What does God say about alcohol? “... Benot drunk with wine, wherein is excess; butbe filled with the Spirit; (Eph. 5:18)We’ve just stated the statistics on whatalcohol, “being drunk with wine” can do,so in contrast what does the Bible say is theresult of being filled with the Spirit? “... thefruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,23Meekness, temperance: against such thereis no law. Alcohol makes people breakmany laws. God’s command to be filledwith the Spirit of God - His Holy Spirit -breaks no laws and fills people with joy. When we think of God’s commandments, weusually think of the Ten Commandments. Ifwe could obey these commands, this alonewould prevent depression and suicidalattitudes developing. But there are also manyspecific commands; commands to rejoice- the forgotten commands, that if obeyed, will prevent the depression that can leadto suicide.GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005 23

We start in the Old Testament, “Thou shaltrejoice before the LORD thy God in all thatthou puttest thine hands unto”. (Deuteronomy12:18) “Thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thinehousehold” (Deuteronomy 14:26b) “Thou shaltrejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, andthy son, and thy daughter, ... and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that areamong you, in the place which the LORDthy God hath chosen to place his namethere. (Deuteronomy 16:11) As we see here, unfortunate circumstances is no excuse fordisobeying God’s command to rejoice, even the widow and fatherless are to rejoice.Even those that cannot have children, “Forit is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearestnot;...” (Galatians4:27) Rejoice in badtimes and in goodtimes, “And thoushalt rejoice in everygood thing whichthe LORD thy Godhath given untot h e e . . . ”(Deuteronomy 26:11)“Rejoice in theLORD, O yerighteous: forpraise is comely forthe upright.” (Psalm33:1) “Rejoice in theLORD, yerighteous; and givethanks at theremembrance of hisholiness. Your life is in danger, your wife and your five children - if youshould be killed, what will happen to yourwife and five children?”One fellow said, “Daniel, when Abrahamwas in trouble, he lied to save his skin. Whycan’t you do that?”Daniel replied, “I follow one greater thanAbraham, I follow the Lord Jesus Christ. He never lied.”“We need to be focusing our eyes on Jesus. He is the perfecter, He is the author of ourfaith. We should not make excuses to sin, because he or she did certain things, so Ishould do same silly things. We should fixour eyes on Jesus.”“Finally I got out of Pakistan and came toAustralia. I was here alone, without myfamily, for two and a half years. It was noteasy for my wife and children to come toAustralia because of the case against me.Muslim people have a strong influence inour Department of Immigration. At that time, the head of the Department of Immigrationin Queensland was Mohammed Mosely. Hewas an Iranian Muslim. He didn’t like me,24 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005in the LORD, and shalt glory in the HolyOne of Israel.” (Isa 41:16b)The New Testament: “Rejoice in the Lordalway: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Phil 4:4)“Be kindly affectionate one to another ...and verse 12; ...Rejoicing in hope; patientin tribulation; continuing instant in prayer”(Romans 12:10a & 12)If I find it difficult to be happy - to rejoice,I may need to take a closer look at my life.If I am not happy, something is wrong. Agood doctor I once had, said if you are inpain then something is physically wrongwith you. It is not normal/right to be in pain.Find out what it is and do something to fixhe read I had been accused of insultingMohammed. The head of the legaldepartment in Immigration was Issa, anIndian Muslim. He didn’t like me either. Thisis what is happening in our Australian nation,it’s influenced strongly by the Islamicpeople. They are the ones who decide whocomes and who doesn’t come. In Pakistanthe leader of the Embassy was a Muslimman as well. Most of time an ambassadorin an Islamic nation employs Muslim people. In Pakistan in the 90’s, Philip Knight, wasthe Australian Ambassador to Pakistan. He’sa Muslim married to a lady from Indonesia, and he was very active in this case againstme. He saw me as someone who had vilifiedMohammed, and now was vilifyingMohammed by telling what the Qur’an andHaddith say. That’s what they are afraid of,because if you make it clear that there is nosalvation in Islam, then people will not behappy to become Muslims. The Muslimswant Australia to become Muslim, andmany Australians are becoming Muslimswithout knowing that there is no salvationin Islam - unless you kill for the sake ofAllah, except you die for the sake of Allah, except you fight for the sake of Allah. Iit - before it gets worse and maybe evenfatal! The same can be said with ouremotional condition. The essential ingredient for being able torejoice is thankfulness having gratitude forall the God and others have done for you,the beauty of creation, our food and manyother physical comforts. The list goes on.When feeling depressed write a list ofblessings in your life, make a concertedeffort to think about good things,“Whatsoever things are true, whatsoeverthings are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoeverthings are lovely, whatsoever things are ofgood report; if there be any virtue, and ifthere be any praise, think on thesethings. (Phil. 4:8)“For as he thinkethin his heart, so ishe...” (Prov. 23:7) Ifwe think aboutdepressing things allthe time, we will getdepressed. If we“ think about thingsthat are lovely, ofgood report, we willrejoice. It’s ourchoice, Godwouldn’t commandus to rejoice if itwasn’t possible toobey Him.Those who havenever come toknow their Creator, find myself responsible for helping peopleknow these facts, because I know it, I havea duty to tell others.”Daniel told how Muslims from Brisbanegave their advice about how to come toAustralia. A Muslim priest from Holland ParkMosque said to him, “Daniel, if you becomea Muslim, your wife and family will be inAustralia in one week’s time.”“This is how much force they wield herein Australia.” said Daniel.I said to him, “Mullah, You don’t know howmuch I love Jesus. I can live withoutanything and everything, but not withoutJesus. There is no life without Jesus. Don’twaste your time.”“Not long afterwards I attended an AustrianConference, where a friend, MarilynTeague, was the main speaker. We weretalking privately when she asked, “Whereis your wife and children?” I explained toher the difficulties we were facing. InPakistan, anything can be done if you pay abribe to the Australian Embassy, or to theAmerican Embassy, or any embassy. Youcan get a visa, that’s no problem. That’s acommon thing in Pakistan. I thought; option

through genuine repentance and faith inthe risen and living Lord Jesus Christ, whodied & shed His blood for our sin, comingto know Him as Saviour is the only lastingway to begin seeing an end to depressionand suicidal tendencies. We come to knowHim by calling upon Christ in faith.Confessing our sin to Him, asking Christto forgive and save us from hell and to giveus eternal life in heaven. God promises,“Whosoever shall call upon the name ofthe Lord shall be saved”. (Romans 10:13)Unfortunately, there are those who evenafter believing in Jesus Christ, have stillsuffered from depression and eventuallyeven committed suicide. This is rare butdoes happen. The incomparable joy of conversion, as aresult of this new spiritual relationshipthrough faith in Jesus Christ, is wonderful.Accepting Christ as Saviour seals oursalvation and our home in heaven onceand for all. But it is not the end yet. It isa new beginning, the first step. Dailyobedience, dependence and trust in God,our new heavenly Father, is necessaryfor joy and peace to continue to beexperienced. If we fail to live insubmission and obedience to the LordJesus, we lose our joy. Try this basicobedience check list: Tick where you’veobeyed the Lord:I have been scripturally baptised (fullyimmersed in water). (Acts 19:5)I pray often daily/regularly (1 Thes. 5:17)I read the Bible daily/regularly (Josh. 1:8)I desire to do His will whenever and whereeverI see an opportunity. (Psa. 40:8)I’m involved in church, putting a highpriority on attending meetings - “Notforsaking the assembling of ourselvestogether....” (Heb 10:25)I avoid sin out of love for God andothers and fear of the consequences.(1 Tim 6:11)I confess my sins to God regularly, keepinga short account with God. (1 John 1:9)I avoid offending others or gettingoffended but when I offend, I apologise.(Ps 119:165, Jam 5:16)If you cannot tick all the above statementsthen this may be why you are notexperiencing the joy of the Lord. Anunwillingness to obey the Lord in the“smallest matter” can eventually lead todepression, nervous breakdown and evensuicide. When a Christian loses his or herjoy, there is no where else to go, “Lord, towhom shall we go? thou hast the words ofeternal life.” (John 6:68)But God will forgive and restore if we seekHim again, as did King David, Psalm 51: 7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8Make me to hear joy and gladness; ... 9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out allmine iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart,O God; and renew a right spirit within me....Restore unto me the joy of thy13salvation;... Then will I teachtransgressors thy ways; and sinners shall beconverted unto thee. When we lose our joywe lose our influence. As Christians webecome hypocrites. If a Christian is nothappy what hope has anyone else got? That’s why its so important to obey God’scommand to rejoice, Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. (Phil 3:1)one - I will not become a Muslim at anycost. Option 2 - I’m against bribing, Whatis the third option?”“Marilyn, suggested she would speak to herbrother who was a Senator in Adelaide, SirBraden Teague.”Daniel called Sir BradenTeague, “Sir Braden, I wantmy wife and children to joinme here in Australia. I havea problem, I have a fewoptions. One option is I canpay a bribe to AustralianEmbassy, if I do that, Iknow my wife and childrenwill get here very quickly. The other option is tobecome a Muslim. This willensure they will be herewithin week. Now both ofthese options are notacceptable to me,”He answered, “Daniel, Icannot believe that Australianpeople take bribes in theAustralian Embassy.”I said, “You start aninvestigation, and then you tell me.”So he carried out an investigation, andsacked more than fifty people in theAustralian Embassy staff in Pakistan. They then appointed new staff. After twoand a half years I got my visa for mywife and children to come to Australia. So it was not easy, butwe needed to trustGod and do it the rightway - His way. When we face adifficulty we should notshun away from doingthings the right way.And we should not justgive in. We should keepfighting. You know theWord of God says thatwe should submitourselves to God andresist Satan, resist theenemy, and the enemywill flee from us.“Submit yourselvestherefore to God.Resist the devil, and hewill flee from you.”(James 4:7). Many timeswe give in and the enemy takes over. Weare supposed to resist the enemy. First, submit to God, and then resist the enemy, and the enemy will flee, we shouldn’t bethe ones fleeing. Thank God.When we started this ministry we knew itwouldn’t be easy, not only financially, butwe knew it would also be dangerous. Therehave been many threats to me, seven deaththreats here in Australia, since I startedteaching at the University of Queensland. But we know that God is in control. Hetakes care of His people. We are not givingup. The other positive side is because ofthis case, a similar law did not pass in SouthAustralia. The Government wanted this law,but people strongly opposed it. So the lawwas not passed. In Western Australia, theGovernment also wanted to pass this law,but the people opposed it, because of ourcase in Victoria. And so the law did not gothrough. We are now hoping, and pleasepray that this law will be abolished in Victoria,in Queensland, and in Tasmania. We don’tneed these wicked laws. In the Gospel ofJohn we read that Jesus said, “You will knowthe truth and the truth will set you free.”But these laws are of the Antichrist, theysay, “Truth is no defence.” So you are notsupposed to tell the truth, truth is no defence.GOOD REPORT Continued ISSUE 31 page 20052725

The CuttingEdge- By Katy-Anne BinsteadTHERE IS AN EDGE OUT THERETHAT a lot of young people aregrasping hold of in order to try andhave control over their lives. This edge isthe mutilation of one’s body. There are manyyoung people out there who get razorblades, or scissors, or knives, and cut theirown bodies regularly. This is usually a habitthat goes on for many years. Why on earthwould anybody want to cut their own flesh? In my experience, the most common reasonthat youth cut themselves is because theyfeel like they have no control over their lives, and they want to control something. Cuttingthemselves and seeing the blood comeoozing out makes them think they are incontrol, even though the truth is they havespiraled out of control. While this mightsound gross to you, there are a lot moreyoung people out there that cut than whatmost people realize.Cutters are usually girls, I have seen twoexceptions, where the cutter has been a boy,but out of the twenty or so cutters I haveknown, and more that I know of, have beengirls. Research shows that it is mostly agirl thing. It is both Christian and non-Christian teens that I have known to do this.Of course, if a Christian teen is cuttingthemselves, there really is a problem. Theway to deal with cutters is not to send themto a psychologist, but to give them Biblicalcounsel. It is not a psychological problem,it is a sin problem. The girls cut for many reasons. You willfind that 90% of cutters have been sexuallyabused in their life. They are messed upand they feel they are out of control. Theythink that the blood that comes from cuttingthemselves will help things. Sometimes theylook at blood and scars as trophies of thecontrol that they think they have over theirlife. Then when something happens thatupsets them, they think they need to makethe blood flow. Many cutters feel suicidal, and at somepoint in time, a lot of them will be miserableenough to try and kill themselves by cutting. Many will attempt suicide more than once.Their lives are so messed up and out ofcontrol that they feel there is no other26 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005option. But this rarely works, and it justmakes the cutter more depressed than ever.Suicide goes against clear commands ofthe Bible. The Bible says simply thou shaltnot kill. Exodus 20:13. The command issimple, we are not to kill. We are not to killourselves or anybody else. These cutters have one thing right. Theydo need blood, but it is the blood of JesusChrist that they need, not the blood of theirown body. Some cutters drink their bloodor lick their blood. There are directcommands in the Old Testament that tellus not to drink blood. Blood is verysignificant throughout the Bible. It wasblood of animals that provided a coveringfor sin until our Saviour died on the cross. Then it was His blood that provided anatonement, or forgiveness, for our sins. With blood being so significant in the Bible,it is no wonder that the devil has tried topervert the shedding of blood. For the life of the flesh is in the blood: andI have given it to you upon the altar tomake an atonement for your souls: for it isthe blood that maketh an atonement forthe soul. Therefore I said unto the childrenof Israel, no soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojournethamong you eat blood. Leviticus 17:11,12.The Old Testament also talks about theprophets of Baal cutting themselves. AndElijah said unto the prophets of Baal,Choose you one bullock for yourselves, anddress it first; for ye are many; and call onthe name of your gods, but put no fire under. And they took the bullock which was giventhem, and they dressed it, and called on thename of Baal from morning even untilnoon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But therewas no voice, nor any that answered. Andthey leaped upon the altar which was made. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijahmocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for heis a god; either he is talking, or he ispursuing, or he is in a journey, orperadventure he sleepeth, and must beawaked. And they cried aloud, and cutthemselves after their manner with knivesand lancets, till the blood gushed out uponthem. 1 Kings 18:25-28.So we see that cutting has been aroundsince Bible times. There was a demon-possessed man in the New Testament whocut himself. His story is a wonderfultestimony to the cutter. And they came over unto the other side ofthe sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombsa man with an unclean spirit, who had hisdwelling among the tombs; and no mancould bind him, no, not with chains: becausethat he had been often bound with fettersand chains, and the chains had been pluckedasunder by him, and the fetters broken inpieces: neither could any man tame him.And always, night and day, he was in themountains, and in the tombs, crying, andcutting himself with stones. Mark 5:1-5.We see here that this man had a demon, and that demon made him do some reallyawful things. One of those things wascutting himself with stones. Not everybodythat cuts is demon-possessed, becausemany Christian teens cut themselves. But itdoes show that their walk with the LORDis not what it should be. But lets continuewith this mans story. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran andworshipped him, and cried with a loudvoice, and said, what have I to do with thee,Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? Iadjure thee by God, that thou torment menot. For he said unto him, come out of theman, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, what is thy name? And he answered, saying,my name is Legion: for we are many. Andhe besought him much that he would notsend them away out of the country. Nowthere was there night unto the mountains agreat herd of swine feeding. And all thedevils besought him, saying, send us intothe swine, that we may enter into them. Andforthwith Jesus gave them leave. And theunclean spirits went out, and entered intothe swine: and the herd ran violently downa steep place into the sea, (they were abouttwo thousand;) and were choked in the sea.And they that fed the swine fled, and told itin the city, and in the country. And theywent out to see what it was that was done. And they come to Jesus, and see him thatwas possessed with the devil, and had thelegion, sitting, and clothed, and in his rightmind: and they were afraid. Mark 5:6-15

When the man saw Jesus, he wanteddeliverance, and Jesus wanted to deliverhim, just as Jesus wants to deliver anybodywho is bound in the sin of cutting. Jesushas the authority to deliver. As we can seethe demons had no choice but to leave whenJesus commanded them to. Jesus deliveredthe man, for when the people found him,he was sitting, and clothed, and in his rightmind. This man had found peace! The peaceof Jesus. It is Jesus that cutters need. Ifthey are unsaved, they need the redemptionof His blood. If they are saved they need aright relationship with Him. The mans storycontinues when Jesus goes to leave. And when he was come into the ship, he thathad been possessed with the devil prayed himthat he might be with him. Howbeit Jesussuffered him not, but saith unto him, go hometo thy friends, and tell them how great thingsthe Lord hath done for thee, and hath hadcompassion on thee. And he departed, andbegan to publish in Decapolis how great thingsJesus had done for him: and all men didmarvel. Mark 5:18-20.Jesus told him to go and tell what greatthings the Lord had done for him. The Lordhas been good to all of us and we can all tellof his greatness. But what a testimony tothe person that struggles with selfmutilation.Jesus delivered this man and Hecan deliver anybody else that wants it too.If you know a cutter, how do you help thembe free of this sin? The first thing toremember is this: There hath no temptationtaken you but such as is common to man:but God is faithful, who will not suffer youto be tempted above that ye are able; butwill with the temptation also make a wayto escape, that ye may be able to bear it.Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee fromidolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:13,14. The Lordprovides a way out of any temptation. Aperson does not HAVE to cut.The Bible talks about overcomingaddictions. That ye put off concerning the formerconversation the old man, which is corruptaccording to the deceitful lusts; and berenewed in the spirit of your mind; and thatye put on the new man, which after God iscreated in righteousness and true holiness.Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians4:22-24, 27.There are four principles here for breakingfree from addiction.1. Put off the old man.2. Renew your mind.3. Put on the new man.4. Don’t give place to the devil. All these principles are found in the versesabove. Most of them are pretty selfexplanatory.I will elaborate on the secondone for a minute - renewing your mind. And be not drunk with wine, wherein isexcess; but be filled with the Spirit.Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymnsand spiritual songs, singing and makingmelody in your heart to the Lord; givingthanks always for all things unto God andthe Father in the name of our Lord JesusChrist. Ephesians 5:18-20.These verses give the key. We can take thebeing drunk with wine part and relate it tothe addiction of cutting. The key is the nexttwo verses. Think about it. If, whentemptation comes, they pick up their Bibleand read it, or if they pray, or if they sing ahymn, or they give thanks to God, they willnot be able to cut while they are meditatingon these things.Although the cutter may feel all torn upinside, cutting and other forms of selfmutilation(which are burning and injuringoneself) will not help them overcome theirproblems, and will actually bring themconsequences they don’t want. (There willbe both physical and emotional scars). Hereis what God says about this: Be notdeceived; God is not mocked: forwhatsoever a man soweth, that shall he alsoreap. For he that soweth to his flesh shallof the flesh reap corruption; but he thatsoweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reaplife everlasting. Galatians 6:7,8Self-mutilation just is not worth it and willnot solve anyones problems. So instead ofresorting to something that only hurtsworse, teach them to take their cares to theLord. 1 Peter 5:7 says it beautifully: Castingall your care upon him; for he careth foryou. When a right relationship with the Lordexists, the cutting will stopContinued from page 25You can tell lies, and that’sfine. But if you tell the truthabout other religions they say,“No, no, you are vilifyingthem. Don’t tell the truth. Wedon’t need to know the truthany more.” So that is whywe are not giving up. Weneed to fight to the end, andwe know the Word of Godsays to. The things whichappear to be sometimesdifficult and painful, finallywork out for good for God’speople. Somebody said, “Atthe end it will be all good. Andif it isn’t good, then it’s not the end.”We are waiting on the Lord. It will be goodat the end. We have taken this case to theSupreme Court. We don’t know how longit will take. VCAT started in March 2002and went for three years. It may be anotherthree years by the time we are through withthe Supreme Court. If the results are notpositive, we will take it to the High Court. We are not giving up, and that’s the waywe Christians need to be, we need to beDaniel Scot speaking on the Good Report Sydney radio (90.5 FM) program last yearsteadfast and committed to the right thing, not to the wrong things. WEALTH, FAME,POWER but...no will to live- By Julie JordanIT’S NOT WHAT WE OWN OR CAN BUYthat makes us happy, Jesus said, “Havingfood and raiment (essential clothing) let ustherewith be content.” The media and the world’smessage is the opposite. We’re bombardedconstantly through commercial radio and TVchannels with all the things we need to buy tomake us happy. Rock stars and movie stars arealso being promoted as role models of “success”and “happiness”. However the News can also nothelp but expose their empty lives and prematuretragic deaths. The Media buzzes with the details of the life ofhigh profile people preceding the tragedy of theirsuicides. Newspapers and magazines recite theglamorous history of ritzy lifestyles, the sordidaffairs, the exotic tours, the adoring entourage, the transient friendships and troubled marriages, the drugs, the alcohol, the cigars, the fabulousrestaurants, the disagreements with family andfriends, the struggles to achieve something ofsignificance in this world. Then this- suicide! This rich and famous person is now enthralledin the dark, cold chains of death, of his ownchoosing, and by his own hand. How can it be?How can someone who has seemingly reachedthe pinnacle of what the world calls “success”want to end it all?It doesn’t make sense, and so various expertsin the field are called upon to explain to abewildered public how it all happened. Rockhistorians prattle on about the brilliance of thedead man’s lyrics, when in fact the lyrics areinciting a whole generation of young people toincreasing levels of immorality and rebellion.Stock brokers tell how wonderful the formerhigh flyer was, when in fact he was willing tocheat and lie to score higher profits for himself, and then to squander those profits on aconspicuously self-indulgent lifestyle.I notice that these “seekers” after a reason nevergo to the Word of God to find an explanation. Were they to read the Gospels, they would findthat the Lord Jesushas many insightfulstatements thatapply to thesedreadful situations.Since He is the Lordof life, the only wayAnd they that be wise shallshine as the brightness ofthe firmament; and theythat turn many torighteousness as the starsfor ever and ever. - Daniel 12:328 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005The true stars - “they thatturn many to righteousness”!(Daniel 12:3)to the living God, we do well to listen to Him togain a clear perspective on what life is really about. He warned us to beware of covetousness, for aman’s life does not consist in the abundance ofhis possessions. He warned us to fear the onewho has the power to cast into hell, and to realizethat we cannot serve both God and mammon, for we will hate one and love the other. He alsotold us to take stock of our lives, by evaluatingthe worth of gaining the whole world, but losingour eternal soul. He showed us that He alone hasthe power over life and death. He came to seekand to save those who were lost, yet many willnot come to Him, because they love their sin morethan they want to be right with God. They alsoignore the testimony of the lives of those whohave chosen to follow Jesus Christ. What a contrast I can observe in the lives offaithful men and women who have devoted theirlives in sweet surrender to the will of God. Amissionary, Philippe Pinero, comes to mind. Hereceived Christ as his Saviour as a teenager andgave his life to the Lord to be used of Him in hisservice. His testimony is that God is good in allHis ways. What Philippe thought he had sacrificedwas really an investment in his own future. He isnow reaping the rich harvest of giving up his ownplans, and instead seeking the will of God for hislife. As he reflects on the joy of being married tothe one lady, Hazel, the joy that he has had in hischildren and now in his grand-children, thesatisfaction of being used of God as a herald oflight to those who sit in darkness, the excitingadventures he and his family have had as amissionary on the island of Vanuatu, the privilegeof being a minister of God, there is not a trace ofdissatisfaction or melancholy, but instead a joyousoverflow of thanksgiving. It’s important to realise that riches, fame, selfindulgence, and all the allurements that the worldcan offer can never compare to the joy, thepeace, the satisfaction that comes from findingthe will of God in life and doing it.“Hear counsel, and receive instruction that thoumayest be wise in thy latter end.” (Proverbs 19:20).Left: Hanna,Hazel & PhilippePinero, Missionariesto VanuatoRight column (fromtop to bottom):Celebraties whotragically, committed suicide:Michael Hutchence,Kurt Cobain,Paul HesterRene RivkinMarilyn MonroeMichael Hutchence (singer, Rockband INXS) committed suicide 1997AllPosters.comKurt Cobain (Lead singer andguitarist of band Nirvana) Committedsuicide 1994Above Left: Crowded House“After Glow” CD Album cover-Paul Hester (Drummer of rockbands: Split Enz & Crowded House)committed suicide 2005Photo: Book cover ‘Rivkin Rules’Rene Rivkin (wealthy Stockbroker)committed suicide 2005Marilyn Monroe (actress)Committed suicide 1962

READERS REPORT - Letters to the editorThe views expressed in ‘Readers Report’ are notnecessarily supported by the Good Report.Email letters as a text file togoodreport@optusnet.com.au.Mail to: Good Report, P.O Box 11116,Mackay, Canelands, 4740Islam - no friend of EnglandIt seems that Islam has struck a second timein London with another bombing. What willit take for the British to wake up and realizethat Islam is no friend to England and for thatmatter, to the rest of the world?! When willthe current British prime minister stoppandering to these godless Muslims andrepent?I should mention that we too have a problemwith these wicked people. Even recently, it hasbeen revealed that an Islamic book store inLakemba has been selling books encouragingterrorism and stating that “it is shameful to beAustralian”. (This makes many wonder: “Whatare you doing in Australia, claiming hercitizenship and benefits? Why don’t you justleave Australia and go to Mecca?”). Althoughthis sort of nonsense has been going on inIslamic book stores for so many years, yet onlynow it is starting to be revealed what kind ofpeople they are. To make matters worse, a womanwho is a convert to Islam started supportingthis sort of material and falsely accused Christianand Jewish book stores of “doing the samething”. This tells us two things: 1. Those whoconvert to Islam are bound to follow the road ofterrorism and murder. 2. Muslims and theirconverts love to lie to justify their wicked deeds.(It is part of the Muslim ethos anyway. They areallowed to lie to non-Muslims if it promotes theircause. This is called in Arabic: “Al-Taqqiyah”).It is about time that we get a genuine godly leaderin government who won’t pander to wickednessand wicked people and who will throw them outof our nation. Enough is enough! What will ittake for Australian Christians to wake up andstop playing footsy with the wicked?- Timothy Kwoh, NSWAustralia - People rule or dictatorshipWhen the People Rule they rule from theJury Box. If the People DON’T Rule, butare RULED, then the Executive hasSovereignty and the Executive is a Dictator. If the Dictator is cruel and oppressive, he/she is a Tyrant.DEMOCRACY is a simple concept and easilytaught.Under our system of English Common Law, theremust be a Jury, unless both parties give theirconsent not to have a Jury. The Parliament is a viable path, if the so-called“representatives of the People” can be made todo the Will of the People. However, at this pointin time, those so-called “representatives of thePeople” do as their Party Bosses tell them, instead. The Party Bosses don’t even put on ashow of respecting laws or proper procedures.- John Wilson, North RocksFred Nile - very diplomaticI refer to the article in Letters to the editorfrom Ed Vaughan, Prosepine, Aug- Sep.issue of Good Report, “Pope – is not ourmediator.”I have spoken to Fred Nile a few times andhave a friend who knows him in N.S.W. – Ibelieve that Fred Nile is very diplomatic. Iunderstand that he has a lot of Catholicsupporters and I don’t believe he supportsthe wrong beliefs in the Catholic Church.By congratulating the pope, I don’t believehe is condoning them either, just recognisingthat there is a pope, and that he holds ahuge influence in the world scheme of thingsand that, as far as popes go, you coulddefinitely have a worse one than the onethey have. I can understand where the writerof the letter is coming from. I also believe tounderstand Fred’s motive in what he said.Maybe it would have been better if he hadnot said anything, but maybe it wasexpected of him by some of his supporters. This whole thing requires the skill of a tightrope walker. We know Fred’s heart, justcontinue to pray for him to have God’swisdom and diplomacy. We also need to prayfor our Catholic friends for them to see thepagan aspects of their Church and to askGod if he wants them to leave it. For somepeople that is a very scary thing after so manyyears in one church. From what I am told,Catholicism can have quite a hold on people.I don’t believe it helps by criticizing FredNile as he does so much good in trying topersuade politicians in N.S.W. to make‘moral laws’. - Betty - Rockhampton, QLDCongratulations to Good ReportThank you greatly for your Aug/Sep copyof “Good Report”. I congratulate youheartily for this issue, most interesting, and all about Joh, a man so good butabsolutely rubished by the Labor unions. They didn’t have the charity to give praisewhere praise was due, and well earned. My last political effort was an attempt to getall the Shire councils in Australia to eachnominate a citizen of their own territory, tostand as an independent for the federalelection last October. They could have madea tremendous difference, in fact taken overthe government, had they co-operated fully. But no! Nothing could persuade them. Iwrote 6 times to every council in Australia. Ihave now given up on politics! I’ve turned86, so believe it is enough from me! Mychange is from working for the nation toworking for the Lord! I understand he isalways interested in saving souls, so I’mdoing a little in that field as I am able.Federally I vote CDP now. But I support JimWallace with the Australian Christian Lobbytoo, as I believe a Christian Revival is theonly thing that can save Australia now!I enclose a subscription for another 12months of Good Report, with a smalldonation to help along.- Rubert Sherlock, Midland, W.AApology from the editor:In the July/Sep issue of GR, the statement [whowe should vote for] referring to Fred Nile, was added to Ed’s comments within his ownparagraph inside the brackets as shown - todifferentiate his comments from those of theeditors. This was due to there not beingenough room to ad them at the end of hisletter. If anyone misunderstood this intent andtook the comments as being made by Ed, weapologise both to Ed and the reader(s).Ed Vaughan wrote the following subsequentletter:Not a vote for or against Fred NileIn reference to Mr Fred Nile, the editor added,“who Christians should vote for”. E.Q.My letter was not intended to be a vote for,or against Mr Nile. The issue was thefavourable hearing the Catholic Churchreceived from Mr Nile, the assurance of thespirituality of the past and present popesand their Christian leadership.I also wrote to Mr Nile advising him of thefinal Will and Testament of the Pope. Thecontents read as follows, “I desire thateverything making up part of my earthly lifeshould prepare me for the moment the Lordwill call me home. Entrusting that decisivemoment to the mother of Christ, the mother ofmy hope. Victory when it comes will victorythrough Mary.” E.Q. This is the pope whomMr Nile has venerated. In light of the above statement I wrote to MrNile, asking if he would publicly state his error,as many Christians be deceived into thinkingthe Catholic church is the Way, the Truth, andthe Life, by the stance Mr Nile has taken. It is most unfortunate that compromise isthe order of political correctness. Thepresent state of our churches reveal animmoral slice only one step behind society.Yes we do need to stand up as one body, and fight against the blight of immoralitysweeping our country and world. Taking onboard those who supposedly profess faith, whose works contradict their acclamationcan only bring a void to past endeavours.Do we as Christians, need to accept anythingless than Jesus Christ? Or do we concentrateon our own efforts to produce what we believeGod would have us do?Before we commence our fight againstimmorality we must have our theology right, and possess the correct discernment of thedoctrines of the various religions and cults. We may have a multitude of good intentions, but God asks us to be found faithful.God will not force His will on men. *“Whenwe give up a part of our faith, to fit into theworld, we loose it. When the world tells us weno longer can have our religion, when God isdriven from our schools, our homes andgovernments, then God’s people can look backand know our religion was not taken from us,but was given up.” - Ed Vaughan. On Friday, Abbaspersonally presided over what might belabeled an “excessive demonstration” inGaza City. He declared: “Today we arecelebrating the liberation of Gaza and thenorthern West Bank; tomorrow we willcelebrate the liberation of Jerusalem.”With security guards surrounding him,Abbas said, “From here, from this place, our nation and our masses are walkingtoward the establishment of anindependent Palestinian state withJerusalem as its capital.”Muhammed Dahlan, Civil Affairs Minister, stood next to Abbas and proclaimed:“…the day of victory and the beginningof a new era that was achieved with theblood of our martyrs.”Two confirmed terrorist organizations,Hamas and Islamic Jihad, announced thatthe fight against the “Zionist enemy” would30 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005continue. They vowed not to abandon theirweapons even after the disengagement, andcontinue their refusal to join the PAsecurity forces. On Friday, reporters were invited to viewover 1,000 Hamas members wearingfatigues, carrying AK-47s and rocketpropelledgrenade launchers blatantly stagea mock attack on an Israeli settlement. Inthe Jabalya refugee camp, Palestiniansattended a “graduation ceremony” for newrecruits belonging to Hamas’ armed wing,Izzaddin Kassam.Janne, the Hamas leader, Mahmoud Zahar, later spoke to a crowd at a football stadium.Zahar noted: “This [Hamas] army willcontinue to defend the Palestinian people. As long as one inch of our land remainsunder occupation, these weapons willremain in the hands of the Hamas soldiers. These young men will continue to trainothers until all Palestinians are turned intofighters so that we could liberate Palestinefrom the [Jordan] river to the sea.”Homes will be stripped of belongings; lastgood-byes will be said; the banks will shuttertheir windows; the health clinics will close. And, those soon to be dispossessed fearthat the terrorists who have for so long madetheir lives miserable will, from their newvantage point, be able to wreak even morehavoc on the Jewish people. The process is labeled with the politicallycorrect term “disengagement.” For thepeople who have made their homes in GushKatif and other villages in Gaza and northernSamaria, it is simply a matter of beingdispossessed, evicted, stripped of theirinheritance, torn from their homes. It meansgiving in to the terrorist regime next doorthat demands, not just their land, but theirvery lives. In terms of sheer numbers, these are theconsequences of disengagement:· 100% of the Gaza Strip will be evacuatedand handed over to the Palestinians.· 300 square miles in Samaria will beevacuated.· 21 Israeli communities will be uprootedin the Gaza Strip.· 4 Israeli communities will be uprootedin Samaria.· 48 graves in the Gush Katif Cemetery, including six graves of area residentsmurdered by terrorists, will be uprooted.· 9,000 is the approximate number ofIsraelis, including 1,700 Israeli families, currently living in the Gaza Stripand northern Samaria. All of them willbe expelled as part of the withdrawal.· 38 synagogues will be dismantled in theGaza Strip.· 5,000 school-age children will need tofind new schools.· 42 daycare centers will be closed inthe Gaza Strip.· 36 kindergartens will be closed in theGaza Strip.· 7 elementary schools, and 3 highschools will be closed in the GazaStrip.· 45,000 Israeli soldiers and policemenare expected to participate in the Gazawithdrawal.· $1.7 billion is the approximate cost tothe Israeli government for the withdrawalinitiative.· 166 active Israeli farmers will be movedout of Gaza.· 800 cows, comprising the second largestdairy farm in Israel, will be movedout of Gush Katif.· $120 million in flowers and produceexported annually from Gush Katif willbe lost.· 10,000 people employed in agricultureand related industries in Gush Katif, including 5,000 Palestinians, will neednew employment.

· 60% of Israel’s cherry tomato exportscome from the Gaza Strip. Israel’swithdrawal from Gaza will extinguishthis economic resource.· 3.5 million square meters (almost 1,000acres) of greenhouses will be abandonedin Gaza.· 70% of Israel’s organic produce iscurrently produced in Gaza. This isanother economic resource that willbe lost.· 60% of the herbs exported from Israelcome from Gush Katif.· 15% of Israel’s agricultural exportsoriginate in Gaza - exports that willbe lost following Israel’s withdrawalfrom Gaza.· $870 million is the approximate costfor Israel to facilitate the resettlementof former Samaria and Gaza residentselsewhere in the country.· $500 million is the amount of moneyIsrael’s security establishment willspend in order to relocate IsraelDefense Forces bases outside the GazaStrip and build new border crossingfacilities. (Numbers compiled by the IsraelProject)The World Council of Churches, theAnglican Consultative Council, ThePresbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church, the Disciples of Christ, and the UnitedChurch of Christ are either involved in orstrongly considering a boycott againstselected companies that trade with Israel.Genesis 12:3 says, “I will bless them thatbless thee, and curse him that curses thee.”America is at the forefront of a group ofnations bent on pushing the Jews out ofthe Bible Land. It happened in Bethlehem. The birthplace of our Saviour is now aterrorist stronghold. The tragedy in Tehilla Cohen’s (photoabove) life has dimmed neither the radiantsmile nor the laughing eyes of Noga Cohen.Jerusalem Prayer Team members firstbecame acquainted with the Cohen familywhen we enlisted your support to purchasea motorized wheelchair for Tehilla Cohen, their 8-year-old daughter.Three of Noga’s children were crippledwhen their school bus was the target of aterrorist bomb. Ten-year-old Orit lost a foot,7-year-old Yisrael lost a leg below the knee, and Tehilla lost both legs below the knee. Now Noga, her husband Ofir, and their eightchildren are faced with yet another tragedy...the loss of their land to the terroristsresponsible for the attack. Noga and Ofirlive in Kfar Darom, a Gush Katif settlementthat is part of the Gaza territory beingreturned to the Palestinian Authoritybeginning on August 17.Following the injuries to their children, theCohens relocated to Tel Aviv in order forOrit, Yisrael and Tehilla to be fitted withprostheses and to undergo rehabilitation. They could have stayed in Tel Aviv, but thechildren wanted to go home. Now theirhome will have to be abandoned, and thendestroyed, before the land is turned over tothe PA.August 17, is the tragic day, the eviction ofthousands of Jewish refugees like the Cohenfamily began. Those homes, along withtheir schools and synagogues will bedestroyed. Everything they have sacrificedtheir lives for will be taken from them.Terrorists will move in to build bombfactories and suicide camps in order totarget more Jews. Why? Because theseare God’s chosen people - a witness toHim in all generations until Christreturns as their Saviour. How does Noga feel about losing herhome? “If I give in here today, theJewish people will be defeated. Theterrorists will win and we will lose. Idon’t want to give in to terror. How canI give my home to terrorists who willuse it against Israel?”“My children have paid a steep price,”says Noga Cohen. “There are childrenhere whose mothers have been killed.” TheCohen children, however, are convincedthey have paid a lesser price than their friendsin Kfar Darom who have lost a mother orfather, or their own lives. Before the intifada began, the Cohen childrenwould throw candy over the fence thatseparated them from the Palestinian childrenon the other side. “Now,” Noga saysnostalgically, “the fence has been moved toI-don’t-know-where, and my children nolonger stand.”The Cohen family has lost much, and willsoon lose more, but the sign on the door oftheir Kfar Darom home speaks volumes:“Together, we’ll prevail.”- Mike Evans, Founder, Jerusalem Prayer TeamIsraeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu resigned from his post Sunday 7th August 2005 to protest thewithdrawal from Gaza, as the Israeli Cabinet gave final approval to the first stage of the pullout.7 August 2005Letter of ResignationMr. Prime Minister,From the moment you presented your disengagement plan to me, I told you I was againsta unilateral withdrawal in which Israel would receive nothing in return. Such a withdrawal,I argued, would only strengthen the forces of terror. At a minimum, I implored you toplace the settlement blocs within the security fence before beginning the withdrawal andto maintain Israel’s control over the Philadelphi Corridor. In doing so, we could haveestablished new security lines that protected our national interests rather than create theimpression that we are running from terror. Later, we established a mechanism enablingthe government to decide whether or not to proceed with the withdrawal depending onthe changing reality on the ground.Unfortunately, the security fence has not been completed, the Philadelphi Corridor will behanded over to the Palestinians, and worst of all, we are permitting the Palestinians toopen a seaport that will enable them to import weapons with abandon.GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005 31

Sadly, the government is blindly moving forward. Just as I feared, Hamas is gettingstronger, the terror is continuing, mortars and kassams are being fired on our towns, and our enemies boldly declare that they will transfer the rockets that expelled us fromthe Gaza Strip to Judea and Samaria, and fire them until they achieve their goal of “thecomplete Liberation of Palestine.”I do not know when the full force of Palestinian terror will return. Perhaps it will take amonth or two, perhaps a year or two. I pray that the terror will stop, but I fear it won’t.Just as I was convinced in 1993 that the Oslo agreement would result in rocket attacksfrom Gaza and terror attacks from Judea and Samaria, I am convinced today that thedisengagement plan will strengthen terror and not weaken it. As you well know, oursecurity experts expect that terror in the medium-term will increase. In short, it is becoming crystal clear that the unilateral disengagement is bringing nobenefit to Israel. On the contrary, it is endangering our security, dividing the nation, andjustifying the untenable demand that Israel return to the indefensible borders of 1967.This is not the way to achieve peace.I have always thought that a withdrawal from Gaza was possible within the context ofa peace agreement or in return for a tangible benefit. But what is Israel getting in returnfor its decision to uproot families, destroy their homes and disinter their loved ones? Inreturn, we are getting a new base for Islamic terror. After the terror attacks in New York, Washington, Madrid, London and in the Sinai, theworld is beginning to understand that terror must be confronted, not appeased. AndIsrael, the nation that once showed the whole world how a free people courageouslyconfront terrorism, is now taking a different course. In the last few months, I hoped that the government would open its eyes and changedirection. But the very opposite has happened. A center-right government that expressedthe will of the nation following the last elections was replaced with a government thatautomatically implements policies that are contrary to the principles of the Likud and themandate we received from the public.Mr. Prime Minister, you could have preserved a center-right government. You couldhave prevented a split in the nation. For many months, I implored you to hold a referendumthat would have preserved unity in the party and unity in the nation. Unfortunately, youopposed a general referendum and at the same time broke your promise to accept theresults of a referendum within the Likud. As we face the difficult days ahead, the needfor both the government and the public to act with the utmost restraint and responsibilityhas never been greater. For a long time, I have remained in the government despite my opposition to thedisengagement plan and my growing reservations with the developments taking placeon the ground. I did so in the hope that my influence within the government could helpminimize the dangers of the disengagement plan. At the same time, I remained in thegovernment because of my sense of responsibility as minister of finance. We were inthe midst of passing revolutionary economic reforms that I believe are critical to thenation’s economic future, including most recently the capital market reform and taxreform. When I became Minister of Finance two and a half years ago, the Israeli economy wason the verge of collapse. Today, the economy is healthy, growing and prosperous. If theeconomic policy I led is not changed, growth will continue and all of Israel’s citizenswill benefit.Today, we have reached the moment of decision. There is a path toward peace andsecurity. A unilateral withdrawal under fire is not that path. I am unwilling to be a partnerto a process that chooses toignore reality and blindlyadvances a policy that willcreate an Islamic terroristbase that will threaten thenation. I am unwilling to be apartner to an irresponsiblepolicy that endangers thesecurity of the state, dividesthe nation, establishes theprecedent for Israel’s returnto the indefensible 1967 lines, and even endangers the futureof a united Jerusalem.I therefore submit this letterof resignation.Benjamin Netanyahu32 GOOD REPORT ISSUE 31 2005GREY PRAISE!A pastor presented this version of“JESUS LOVES ME.”(The Seniors version)Jesus loves me, this I knowThough my hair is white as snowThough my sight is growing dimStill He bids me trust in Him.(Chorus)Yes, Jesus loves me.Yes, Jesus loves me,Yes, Jesus loves me,the Bible tells me so.Though my steps are oh, so slow. With my hand in His I’ll goOn through life, let come what mayHe’ll be there to lead the way.(Chorus)Though I am no longer young,I have much which He’s begun.Let me serve Christ with a smile,Go with others the extra mile.(Chorus)When the nights are dark and long, Inmy heart He puts a song, Telling me inwords so clear, “Have no fear, for I AMnear.”(Chorus)When my work on earth is done,And life’s vic’tries have been won,He will take me home above,Then I’ll understand His love.(Chorus)I love Jesus, does He know?Have I ever told Him so?Jesus loves to hear me sayThat I love Him every day.(New Chorus)Yes, I love Jesus,Yes, I love Jesus,Yes, I love Jesus,I tell Him when I pray.○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○Psalm 37:25 I have been young, andnow am old; yet have I not seen therighteous forsaken, nor his seedbegging bread.26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth;and his seed is blessed.27 Depart from evil, and do good; anddwell for evermore.28 For the LORD loveth judgment, andforsaketh not his saints; they arepreserved for ever: but the seed of thewicked shall be cut off.29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

How aboutyourself, do you ever wake up tired, headachy or just not firing on allcylinders? This could be related toanything that you have put into yourmouth, even if it was consumed 2 or 3days ago. Please take note that there is a differencebetween food poising, allergies, andsensitivity. Food sensitivities are themost frequent and least understood.I have two young children. Both havebeen affected by additives—onebehavioural and the other physical.Interest in this topic began whenattending a one day seminar on dietaryhealth. The speaker made statementsthat made me aware that my daughter’stired immune system, poor weight gainand asthma could be related to chemicalsin food and personal care products.Since arriving back home, I have beenonline, reading books and magazines, and talking to others in an effort to checkthe accuracy of what I have been told. What I have found is that additives doeffect the body in multiple ways andnot every person has the same reaction. In order to help with making healthierfood choices, this article is to pointsomeone to a starting point. The AustralianNational Flag Association (ANFA) is tryingto locate any living relatives of the originaldesigners of our flag - the five people whojointly won the official flag designcompetition run in 1901.Queensland ANFA President Allan Pidgeon said:“We’d like to honour the memory of those whowon the world’s first-ever open publiccompetition to design a national flag”.“Australia’s flag is unique, it is the only flag tofly over an entire continent, and also in the wayit was chosen following federation in 1901”.The number of entries was equivalent to about1% of the Australian population at the time. The32,823 entries were displayed at the RoyalExhibition Building in Melbourne. It took thejudges six days to choose the winning design. Theprize was £8356;200 (4 years’ average wages). The judges settled on five designs, each of thewinners received £8356;40. Their names wererevealed on 3 September 1901. On that daythe Countess of Hopetoun (wife of our firstGovernor-General) joined then-Prime MinisterEdmund Barton at the Royal Exhibition Buildingin Melbourne. The scene was described bythe Age newspaper: “As Lady Hopetounentered, a huge Blue Ensign with the prizedesign of the Southern Cross and a six-pointedstar thereon was run up to the top of theflagstaff on the dome; and breaking, streamedout on the heavy south-westerly breeze - abrave and inspiring picture”.The winners were: Annie Dorrington from Perth(who became a well-known artist);. Ivor Evansfrom Melbourne (a 14 year-old schoolboy);. LeslieJohn Hawkins from Leichhardt in NSW (an 18year-old apprentice);. Egbert John Nuttall fromPrahran in Victoria (a 35 year-old architect); andWilliam Stevens (First Officer in the UnionSteamship Company of New Zealand).
