hotel has added a further sport attraction! You can now play golf on
our own golf course. olympia Golf: a new nine-hole golf course with
lots of refinements is now open to all our golf-loving guests!
But sporting activities are not the only thing that our hotel can offer
you, there`s also our wellness programme. You will also be spoilt by
our culinary delights. the Gault Millau Guide also thought this and
awarded our chef one of its chef`s toque or points.

When the new Hungerburgbahn cable lift was opened in December, it already had a nickname “second
monument”. That is because it is the “second monument” to be built in Innsbruck by the prizewinning
star architect Zaha Hadid: a second impressive construction after the Bergisel ski jump. The
Hungerburgbahn connects the town (674m) and Nordpark (2.269m).

who have tried out this new means of
transport are impressed. 80 journalists from all
over the world, from the New York Times to
the BBC and the Guardian were all very taken
with this exemplary project.

Since October 07 it`s official! Georg Stradner,
29, for a long time stephan Beck`s right hand
man, was appointed director of the sporthotel.
Georg is valued by both guests and the
hotel team for his commitment and reliability
impression of a glacier world and the way they
harmonise with the tyrolean mountain scenery
are impressive. The elements are simple, yet
elegant. The bridge over the River Inn is also
a striking eye-catcher. A further advantage of
the new Hungerburgbahn is that the journey
sets off at the Congresshaus located on the
edge of the old town near the hofgarten. so,
when you hear the call of the mountains let
yourself be transported up into the heart of
the mountains within a maximum of 20 minutes
– now that really is something unique
in europe!

The tester from the world-renowned gourmet restaurant guide, Gault Millau, paid the Sporthotel a
quiet, secret visit last year to test and evaluate our culinary creations.

Communication is his forte: “I knew from a
very early age that I wanted to go into the
hotel business”, he explains, “I have always enjoyed
being around people”!
Home cooking!
It`s not really surprising that Clemens was the
right candidate to be evaluated for a chef`s
hat. he says, “It`s my motto that as far as ingredients
and preparation are concerned one
should use as many local products as possible.”
For Clemens this master chef award is an incentive
to cook even better for our guests and
guarantee them quality products, and it is “a
big culinary step forward for all of us”.

The three Beck girls, Anna, Theresa and Antonia
are not only learning for school and life, but they
are also learning harder as the summer holidays
approach. As ever, our three-leaved clover can`t
wait for the summer holidays. Above all they want
to find out whether their language teachers have
done a good job.
anna, already 16, is going to the states as an
au pair for a month in august where she will
look after the children of her host family. her
parents, Lissy and Stephan, always marvel how
she manages to cope with all the languages she
is learning: latin, english, French and Italian!
Her sister Theresa (14) will probably also fly
over to the USA for 3-4 weeks to improve her
english. But as she is “still a little young”, she will
be staying in a kind of boarding school which
offers language instruction.
During the long summer holidays, the youngest,
antonia, aged 13, plans to go to england
with a friend for two weeks, where they intend
to “paint the town red”.
to put it in a nutshell: all this means that the
grown-ups can also speak of having the place
to themselves for a change, at least for a while
in august!

Hard but warm-hearted – that`s the way the young team of “Relax and Spa” presents itself. Well yes,
when we`re talking about wellbeing and beauty the four ladies and the gentleman in their midst don`t
make compromises and don`t do things by halves. But they do it all in a loving way!
there`s always something going on in “relax
and spa” at the sporthotel! the team of ladies
has recently received a new team mate: Günther,
a qualified sport and healing masseur, will
expertly relax your muscles.

However, the one in the team who wears
the proverbial trousers is Francesca. She has
been the good spirit for some time, motivates
everyone and ensures that there is always a
sunny atmosphere in the “relax and spa”. she
doesn`t just critically assess the work of her
team but she also inspires them and allows
them space for their ideas and innovations.
For those of you who want to have a bikini
figure in the summer and enjoy the relaxing
surroundings, Francesca advises you to start
preparing for the summer during spring with
an anti-cellulite treatment using the piroche
cosmetic line. according to Francesca, “two to
three sessions a week will definitely lead towards
a beautiful, much firmer figure”.

simone is also one of the bulwarks of the
beauty department at the sporthotel. she
works “round the clock” and has specialised in
cosmetics and massages. Denise, the so-called
“baby” of the team is still serving her apprenticeship
but is delighted that she has become
a member of the cosmetic team – it seems
she`s found her niche in life.
and as reinforcement at the weekends there`s
helena who, with her expertise and experience,
has been with us for years. let yourself
be pampered by our cosm(et)ic girls!
As soon as it gets a bit warmer, you`ll notice more deckchairs in the garden. What could be nicer than
relaxing in the shade after having done a bit of sport? The glass front of the swimming pool is pulled
open, so that you get more of an “open-air” feeling.

Ayurveda massage after a long hike, bike tour
or swim. For golfers there`s the so-called golf
massage. Because one tends to use one side of
the body more than another when playing golf,
this treatment concentrates on the strained
areas – and, as Francesca smilingly puts it, these
are then “worked on”. this treatment is also
done in combination with Ayurveda – ideal for
building up energy and strength.

Being top fit is a must if you want to get to
know our mountain world where there are
routes for everyone and the magnificent
scenery doesn`t just motivate you with its
breathtaking views! By the way, as a reward
for your “efforts” you can acquire hiking pins
– much sought-after collectors` items. In tyrol
these pins vary from region to region and
village to village. But there are other tempting
hiking possibilities like night hikes with lanterns
and experience real mountain hut atmosphere
and music or a romantic sunrise hike.

routes”? then hike on the adlerweg or walk in
the footprints of the pilgrims on the pilgrims`
road to santiago de Compostella.
Hiking the Tyrolean way:
the Adlerweg
You need a lot of staying power if you want
to complete the entire 126 day stages – including
the alpine sections – of the 1.480km
long and 87.000m difference in altitude of the
adlerweg. But hiking only a few sections already
arouse heavenly feelings in a hiker`s heart.
There is something for everybody here: with
excellent signposting and detailed descriptions,
the adlerweg takes you to the most beautiful
parts of the tyrol. What is more, on the way
you will also find out something about the
country and its people! the adlerweg was not
chosen as one of the 50 most wonderful hiking
trails in the world for nothing!

Innsbruck has been a centre for early music
since the Renaissance! Innsbruck`s Festival
Weeks, which have become an annual fixture
in the calendar of early music fans worldwide,
are this year dedicated to the heyday of the
oratorio at the turn of the 17th century. two
scenic production form the focal point.
It will all begin with Gerog Friedrich händel`s
“Belschazzar” from 1745. rene Jakobs, the
award-winning artistic director of the Festival
Weeks, will conduct the rIas Chamber orchestra
and the Berlin academy of early Music. the
festival will conclude with Bernardo Pasquini`s
oratorio “Il martirio di sant agnese”.
An international trail:
the pilgrims` road to
Compostella
Most people immediately tend to associate
the pilgrims` road to Compostella (called the
Jakobsweg in German) with spain or France,
but the tyrol? In fact, the tyrolean section is
an old cultural road that was important for
pilgrims.
on its route from Italy, the pilgrims` road to
santiago de Compostella runs through Igls.
From here it runs from the fields of Patsch
over the Habichtstraße road in the direction
of the Schlosshotel and then over the Viller
steig and Vill to the international crossroads
in Innsbruck which was an important pilgrim
centre. the best example of this is st. James
Cathedral (the Dom zu st. Jakob), but there
are a number of other chapels and churches
throughout tyrol that are also consecrated in
the name of st. James (st. Jakob).
The various sections of the pilgrims` road to
Compostella are being restored and have in
the meantime become a hot tip for modernday
pilgrims, both for those who are determined
to go all the way to Compostella as
well as those who only want to go part of
the way.

Under the title of “Magical Time” Innsbruck`s Festival of Early Music will take place on 7-24th August.
From many years of experience this festival promises a lot of magic.

invite you to watch and listen. The Early Music
concerts will also draw additional attention
to the churches in the provincial capital of
Innsbruck. one should, of course, not miss
the Ambraser Schlossfest, castle festival, in the
beautiful grounds of ambras Castle. here you
will be fascinated by travelling entertainers,
people on stilts and many other artistes; an
event for both young and old festival fans. Of
course it will all be underpinned by lots of
