4. Fitting Instructions4.1 Protective coversProtective covers must only be removedimmediately before fitting.4.2 GasketsFlared surfaces of identical materials(PTFE/PFA) do not require gaskets. Gasketsmay only be sensible for connectionsfrequently undone or for connections to othermaterials such as metal, glass, enamel, etc.Lined pipes and fittings may not be welded,as the high temperature will destroy theplastic.4.3 Torques (for PN10)Torques for other pressure rates availableupon request. When using smoothrunningand greased screws and nuts werecommend the torques in the table below. The torque spanner should be used overcross.4.4 Welding operationsLined pipes and fittings may not bewelded, as the high temperaturewill destroy the plastic.4.5 Vent holesVent holes should at all times be keptopen. Care should be taken not to clog them withpaint or insulating material.4.6 Permeation and diffusionThe term permeation defines the transportof medium through the lining. Permeationis caused by two physical incidents:firstly, the diffusion of the medium through thespaces between the molecules of the plastic;secondly, the solubility of the medium in thepolymer (absorption).Diffusion can be decreased by the choice ofsuitable types of PTFE, by increasing the linerthickness and by using higher levels of crytallinity. However, this increases the risk of crackscaused by strain. To ensure optimal productsafety all aspects have to taken into consideration.Absorption defines the diffusion of mediuminto the liner. Cyclical stress due to temperatureor pressure leads to elongation mechanismswhich cause aggregations of mediumand even blisters. Isolation of those pipingparts can avoid or reduce those effects considerably.Diameter n.
