Un <strong>om</strong> între <strong>oameni</strong>. Mart<strong>in</strong> Bercovici IN MEMORIAM 9electroenergetic system (thermo and hydroelectric power stationsand networks for the transport and distribution of the high andlow tension) and the rational use of all k<strong>in</strong>ds of energy (draw<strong>in</strong>gup the annual and long term energetic balance, the reduction ofspecific consumption of energy <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry). He brought animportant contribution to the substantiation of the most importantproblems of our co<strong>un</strong>try‟s energetic politics.Apart fr<strong>om</strong> his work, Mart<strong>in</strong> Bercovici developed animportant and rich didactic and scientific activity as professorand researcher. In 1940, as result of the fascist persecution, hewas dismissed and he set up a superior technical school for theyo<strong>un</strong>g Jews named Bercovici School or Polytechnics, whichf<strong>un</strong>ctioned <strong>un</strong>til 1944. In the last decades of his life he wasprofessor and boss of the professor‟s chair of the PolytechnicInstitute Bucharest. He was also section boss at the R<strong>om</strong>anianAcademy‟s Energetics Institute. Due to his cont<strong>in</strong>uous activityand concerns, Mart<strong>in</strong> Bercovici took part actually at theeducation of many generations of eng<strong>in</strong>eers and researchers <strong>in</strong>the d<strong>om</strong>a<strong>in</strong> of general energetics and contributed to thedevelopment of the R<strong>om</strong>anian school of electroenergeticnetworks and systems.He gave specialized lectures <strong>in</strong> the co<strong>un</strong>try and abroad andparticipated with a great number of reports and lectures atdifferent <strong>in</strong>ternational conferences and congresses of professionalnature (The World Conference of Energy, The InternationalConference of Electric Networks).He published specialized articles and studies <strong>in</strong> differentR<strong>om</strong>anian and foreign magaz<strong>in</strong>es. Mart<strong>in</strong> Bercovici was apermanent member of The International Conference of HighElectric Networks (ICHEN). He also developed an <strong>in</strong>tense publicactivity at the former Scientific Eng<strong>in</strong>eers and Technicians‟Association‟s Central Co<strong>un</strong>cil (SETA), where for a long periodof time he was president of the Energetic Section.Dur<strong>in</strong>g this time, Mart<strong>in</strong> Bercovici fo<strong>un</strong>d himself among
