FURUNO high-performance radar for fishingimproved detectionThe FAR-2157 (X-band) and 2167DS (S-band) are the latestadditions to the world-renowed FAR-21x7 series radar. Theirsoftware and hardware are optimized for fishing operations,and they carry all the standard functions of the FAR-21x7series.Both radar incorporate state-of-the art signal/graphics processingtechnology together with auto tuning, logarithmicamplifiers and anti-clutter controls, for superb detection onall ranges. Thanks to its graphics processing technology,the echoes are expressively presented with 32 gradationsin accordance with reflected echo strength. The anti-cluttercontrols suppress the unwanted echoes from waves, rainand clouds. The combination of these technologies ensuresa clear image, even in rough seas.The FAR-2157 and 2167DS deliver a variety of useful functionsto skippers. Direct Key control allows the operators toactivate specific settings with just a few keystrokes. This featureis particularly important to oneman fishing operations,where quick setup of the radar according to sea conditionsis vital.Target Tracking (TT) and echo trail functions are available tomonitor the movement of targets precisely. With TT, the targetsare automatically or manually acquired, and their movements,CPA and TCPA are computed and shown in the cellson the right hand side of the screen.(For acquisition of smallertargets such as birds and buoys, they have to be manuallyacquired.) In addition, those ship's tracks can be indicated incolor, which the operators can select from eight different colors.For extended monitoring of target movement, the echotrail feature is recommended.
