Now Frank, here is a picture of Leo Allan, and can you tellme if it has any connection with your family?Goodspeed: Just a good friend, that’s all.Eustice: This old cookware, the corn, and I know they made pancakes and cooked stuff on thatand those molds.Goodspeed: Your previous generations did the same thing.Eustice: I don’t know where that buggy whip came from; was that one of yours?Goodspeed: I don’t know where I got that.Eustice: We will move on over here to this sword.Goodspeed: That is a lodge sword. I don’t know…think it is a Masonic.Eustice: It looks more like a service sword to me. These books we will leave here in this case. Iwish you would put your name in child Child’s History of Waseca County; sign it in ink. Thisone and the others we will leave here in you cabinet because it is a copy your grandfather gave toyou.Goodspeed: Whoever is presenting this material will always know my name somewhere.Eustice: Ya, your name will be on this case.Goodspeed: Well, then all you need to say here is Frank Goodspeed’s book.[At this point in the interview, Frank is trying to write his name in his book. Joe is trying to helphim get it signed.]Eustice: Frank, on the other book is this album of the history and biography of your family, andthis I think is a real gem. It is the history of Steele-Waseca County; it was purchased by you for$6.00 from the Historical Society at the annual meeting of Herman Peterson as surplus property.Now Frank, I think I got all the information I need on this stuff. I would like to put your papersin three-ring binders; that way the kids can’t destroy them, rather than to post them on thebulletin board.
Goodspeed: I wondered if they might not be abused.Eustice: We talked about putting all your pertinent papers in three-ring binders, and then if theywanted to be viewed, we could take them out of here and let the people look at them. You gotone other thing here Frank, that I would like to ask you about. Now I am asking in all ignorance,who was Dr. Goodspeed?Goodspeed: He was probably my brother, Henry who was a dentist here in Waseca.Eustice: Here is a picture of you on your 85 th birthday where we had the cake for you atPowell’s [restaurant]. That was fun.Goodspeed. I think I have some things that are similar to those that I haven’t brought up here. Iwill have to bring them.Eustice: Well yes, I can do a pretty good job of explaining about 60% of it, and the rest if selfexplanatory.It is too bad though that we can’t get a little bit more on your own life. After all,you served as president of this historical society and one of the old-timers around here.Goodspeed: Say, I ought to get into your hands the resignation I made when I ceased beingpresident of this organization because I thought that I transcribed William Donahue and JoeEustice and several others of that type of thinkers.Eustice: I think you nominated both Willard and myself for the Board of Directors here.Goodspeed: Well, I was thinking Donahue might have been earlier in his labors.Eustice: Oh, yes, he was on the board a long time before I was. Well, I think we have gotenough of this then.End of interview.
