FESTIVAL atFORT WILLOW!Saturday, September 15thTake a journey back in time during the Festival atFort Willow!Come experience encampment life during 1812in one <strong>of</strong> Central Ontario’s most historic sites. FortWillow was developed as a half way point betweenKempenfelt Bay and the Nottawasaga River enablinga continuous trade and transportation route fromLake Ontario through to Georgian Bay for manycenturies. During the War <strong>of</strong> 1812, the Britishmilitary utilized this portage route for the transport<strong>of</strong> supplies and personnel as the lower lakes wereoccupied by the Americans. During the Festival, youcan attend this historic British supply depot, FortWillow in <strong>Springwater</strong> <strong>Township</strong> and take a journeyback in time!The Festival at the Fort highlights life as a Britishsoldier in 1812 in a camp setting similar to lifetwo centuries ago. Visitors can enjoy the variousre-enactors as they demonstrate their daily tasksincluding blacksmithing, candle making and musketball making. There is a surgeon, magician, travelingminister, musicians and a seamstress. The Fort isbrought to life with re-enactors performing varioustasks and interacting with festival visitors. TheFestival at the Fort is a great venue for families withinteractive stations, children’s entertainment andhands-on historical displays.As Part <strong>of</strong> the Annual Festival at Historic FortWillow, and to mark the Bi-Centrennial <strong>of</strong> the War <strong>of</strong>1812, the planning committee <strong>of</strong> the Festival at FortWillow is issuing a 1812 CELEBRITY CHALLENGETeams from local media outlets, organizations andcommunity members will compete against a series<strong>of</strong> 1812 military tasks including: Tent Elevations,Tomahawk Tossing, Elementary Amputation andDummy Bayoneting!Teams will consist <strong>of</strong> two competitors that willpartake in each <strong>of</strong> the four challenges. All willreceive a “Basic Training” in the various tasks.
