We Couldn’t Do <strong>It</strong> Without YOU!2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation LuncheonOn April 20, WCFB held its Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at<strong>Westmoreland</strong> <strong>County</strong> Community College. Marlene Kozak, WCFBCEO, welcomed volunteers to the luncheon. Senator Kim Wardand Captain Elvie Carter from New Kensington Salvation Armyspoke of Childhood Hunger and the efforts being done in <strong>Westmoreland</strong><strong>County</strong> to address it. Congressman Tim Murphy gavecitations and congratulated the 2011 Individual Volunteer of theyear, Andrew Graziani, of Greensburg who volunteers monthly atthree Greensburg food pantries, and the 2011 Volunteer Group ofthe Year, Penn Trafford High School’s Community Action Program.The following Volunteers of the Month were also recognizedby Louise Wilhelm, WCFB Volunteer Coordinator:May 2010—Cody Kuhn (Crossroads School)June 2010—Victor Bernard (Franklin Regional Middle School)July 2010—Leah Bowman (Kiski Area High School Key Club)August 2010—Emily Hoerner (American University of Wash. Gail won a “Hands for Service” Volunteer Grantfor her volunteer service with WCFB. The Prudential Foundation presenteda contribution of $250 to WCFB in honor of Gail’s work. Gail alsois the organizer and heart behind the “Sing for Their Supper” Event heldin Irwin each September. Thank you, Gail. We truly couldn’t do it withoutyou.Thank you to the Corvette Club of Western Pennsylvaniafor its continued support. So far in 2011the members have donated $597.68 through theHoss’s Restaurant promotion. The Corvette Clubgot involved with the <strong>Food</strong> <strong>Bank</strong> in 2005 when wehad our first Super Cruz! They haven’t forgottenus, and we can’t thank them enough for their constant support.Due to the generosity of a deceased member of the congregation ofThe United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington themembers were able to make donations to organizations whose workhelps many in their community. Thank you to the members of The UnitedPresbyterian Church of New Kensington for their generous gift of$1,400.00. Together, we CAN end hunger here at homeThank you to the Wal-Mart Foundation and the Pennsylvania Associationof Regional <strong>Food</strong> <strong>Bank</strong>s (PARF) for a Grant that will directly impactthe Weekend Backpack Program. Thanks to these two organizations,many children in <strong>Westmoreland</strong> <strong>County</strong> will not have to know the anguishof hunger over the weekends throughout the school year. Partnersin ending hunger in Pennsylvania.At a recent luncheon held at St. MargaretMary Parish in Lower Burrell, pantry volunteerssaid goodbye to a good friend and leader,Pearl Couturiaux, who had been the pantrycoordinator for 3 years. Monsignor Gastonrecognized her for her hard work at the pantry.WCFB Agency Liaison, Gina Colosimo,thanked Pearl for her dedication and gracious commitment to the causeof helping those in need of food.
