<strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong>/<strong>Ville</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Marseille</strong><strong>Education</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong>: Supporting Newly Arrived Young People in<strong>Glasgow</strong> and <strong>Marseille</strong>Tuesday 14 May 2013St Andrew’s Building, University of <strong>Glasgow</strong>9.00am – 4.15pmNational Conference<strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> has been working with the <strong>City</strong> of <strong>Marseille</strong> through aComenius Regio Partnership to <strong>de</strong>vise policy and practice <strong>for</strong> the support ofnewly arrived young people to both cities during their transition from primaryschool to secondary school. This project has been fun<strong>de</strong>d over a two yearperiod by the EU lifelong Learning Programme. Primary and Secondaryschools, the Universities of <strong>Glasgow</strong> and Aix en Provence and the LocalAuthorities have collaborated to evaluate existing practice, <strong>de</strong>velop teachereducation in this field and provi<strong>de</strong> professional <strong>de</strong>velopment opportunities <strong>for</strong>teachers to gain an enhanced un<strong>de</strong>rstanding of education <strong>for</strong> newly arrivedyoung people in both <strong>Glasgow</strong> and <strong>Marseille</strong>.The conference will disseminate the outcomes of this international partnershipand introduce a mo<strong>de</strong>l of best practice <strong>for</strong> the support of newly arrived youngpeople during the transition period. There will be workshops on topicsincluding E-twinning, assessment of new arrivals, mo<strong>de</strong>ls of support andpastoral care.The conference will be of interest to EAL teachers, school managers, staffinvolved in primary – secondary transition, teacher educators and anyone elsewho works with children and young people who are new to English.Places at the conference are free.
