COURSE COMPETENCIESAfter successfully completing each module the student will be able to:MODULE 28204-05 METAL WORK IN MASONRY1. Describe the uses and installation of vertical reinforcement.2. Describe the uses and installation of different types of horizontal jointreinforcement andties.3. Describe the uses and installation of different anchors, fasteners, and embeddeditems.4. Install hollow metal frames.5. Describe the functions of sills and lintels.6. Install sills and lintels.7. Install metal hardware.MODULE 28206-05 CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES AND MOISTURECONTROL1. Explain and demonstrate techniques for constructing masonry around windows,doors, and other openings.2. Explain the requirements for wall bracing, and demonstrate the techniques used toconstruct pilasters and other types of bracing.3. Identify the various types of insulation used in conjunction with masonryconstruction, and explain techniques installation techniques.4. Identify the need for moisture control in various types of masonry construction,and demonstrate the techniques used to eliminate moisture problems.5. Construct corbelling in a double-wythe wall.6. Join intersecting walls.7. Install flashing.
MODULE 28207-05 CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION AND QUALITYCONTROL1. Describe industry standards for quality control.2. Describe how to build masonry sample panels and prisms.3. Perform a slump test.4. Describe and perform field inspectionsG. GRADING PLAN90-100% = A80-89% = B70-79% = C60-69% = D below 60% = FGrades will be based on homework, quizzes, exams, and job sheets.Daily Participation/Performance 70%Module Exams 20%Final Exams 10%A “no call, no show” the day of a test will result in a “Zero” score and can only be made up at theinstructor’s discretion.H. ATTENDANCE POLICYRegular daily attendance is expected. Absences in excess of six may result in the student failingor withdrawing from the class.In the event of an absence, it is the responsibility of the student to notify the instructor ahead oftime and make arrangements for any missed assignments within a reasonable time. Any work notmade up will be entered as a “Zero” score.I. COURSE COMPONENT SPECIFICAll regular course work and projects must be completed and cleaned up the week prior to finalsweek. Any work not made up or completed will be recorded as a “Zero” score.If the student needs special accommodations the student must inform the instructor.K. CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCTNo cell phone use will be allowed in class.Students will be expected to conduct themselves in a manner conducive to a safe learningenvironment at all times and will be expected to:1. use all personal protective equipment(PPE)2. follow all safety and classroom policies as directed by instructor
